Travelling, making other decisions around
exposure

read up, noone can decide for you, but be aware...
Your mode of transport (train/boat/plane) is unlikely to be disinfected.
You may not be welcome back at work (forced isolation unpaid because you decided to take risk)
Getting stuck in quarantine in another country, subjected to their health service and govt restrictions on you.
What happens with your dc and school upon return.
Holiday insurance cover?

Positive ways of coping

Exercise daily, out where you won't be in close proximity (greater than 2 metres)

Eat well, healthy foods, plenty of liquid

Include natural antivirals in diet and good levels of daily vit c

Rest

Take steps to address any raised anxiety, above what might be reasonable and normal steps for keeping viral hygiene under control.
Its normal to feel more anxious, and normal to take steps to manage situation by being well prepared.

Isolation Issues

Getting sufficient shopping in on low incomes, and/or vulnerable / already isolated

Keeping on top of KEY METERS - need to top up yet in isolation - what measures are there to help

Paying mortgage/rent (private & housing associations) if not receiving sick pay

Legislation that enforced isolation = sick (for sick pay purposes)

       *********,

Primary mode of transmission is airborne droplets.

Sneeze or cough into elbow (or tissue and bin it). Droplets can travel 2m.

Secondary means of transmission touch.

Hand wash to
Break the transmission cycle from hand to mouth, eyes, nose, or to others, by 20 seconds plus thorough hand washing (soap and water).

Alcohol breaks down the outer layer of virus to effectively kill, other methods may not.
(Anti bacterial does NOT do this and overuse may risk bacterial resistance).

Use 2/3rds vol alcohol to any other additive

I just looked up Chris Whitty I have never seen such an impressive set of degrees and education.

I assume he is calling a lot of the shots

FourTeaFallOut · 10/03/2020 14:15

Totally agree. I think anyone travelling now should accept full liability for their decision.

I don't think we should be bailing out holiday makers, anymore. You've got insurance, use it and if you don't tough shit.

FlamingoAndJohn · 10/03/2020 14:15

I do wonder if it's a massive jump the numbers will be released after schools have closed. It would be a Safeguarding headache to have parents collecting throughout the day, much easier to get them all home then close schools.

Would people turn up early to collect their children early if there was a huge jump?

ofwarren · 10/03/2020 14:16

The Scottish Government has confirmed the total number of positive tests for COVID-19 has risen by four to 27

My office (DXC in Cobalt, Newcastle) closed one floor as a staff member came down with something in the office and had been to italy in the past week.

This has pissed everyone off as that staff member had to come through the same doors as us, probably visited the coffee kiosk on the ground floor, the communal loos, the lift or the staircase. But only one floor has been shut! Feels stupid to me. If the risk is there, then it doesnt discriminate to someones own floor. If they have touched the buttons in the lift it could be on there too.

Secondly the same day, had a call where a man was complaining that he had been sent home (based in ireland) because he had had Italian family staying and now has a fever. He said 'statistically i am more likely to catch it in Galway so I am staying at work' and his manager had to threaten him with discipline before he left.

How can people be so pig headed and selfish?

Langbannedforsafeguardingkids · 10/03/2020 14:16

Are all the deaths in separate hospitals? That really doesn't bode well.

NeurotrashWarrior · 10/03/2020 14:16

Homk ThanksThanksThanks

Freezingold · 10/03/2020 14:16

@onalongsabbatical Thanks! It makes me feel more positive. I know that we have to juggle and balance the right interventions, however there are tangible reasons to do that bit more than is ‘told’ to us by governments. We have a greater part to play than we think!

cjt110 · 10/03/2020 14:16

@FourTeaFallOut My insurance specifically says it won't cover it...?

NotQuiteUsual · 10/03/2020 14:17

FlamingoAndJohn Having worked in a school office, absolutely. People will pick their children up early for much less than that.

Egghead68 · 10/03/2020 14:17

Yes

Oakmaiden · 10/03/2020 14:17

@FourTeaFallOut

Mind you, now I am thinking about it I will resist all indications that I need to buy fuel until the very last minute.

Which is what I did with pasta. Which now means I may well have to make the pasta carbonara I promised the children tonight with - um - Uncle Ben's Easy Cook rice...

So that went well. Grin

Babyfairy0923 · 10/03/2020 14:17

@FlamingoAndJohn I think half the parents would not be the slightest bit concerned 🙄

Helenj1977 · 10/03/2020 14:17

They've announced today's figures will be late...

FlamingoAndJohn · 10/03/2020 14:17

You've got insurance, use it and if you don't tough shit.

But insurance doesn't cover you if you just decide not to go, only if the government say not to travel.

I'm due to go to Madrid at Easter. I'm fairly sure now that I won't be going. However I'm not cancelling now as my insurance won't cover it.

Egghead68 · 10/03/2020 14:17

Sorry yes @langbannedforsafeguardingkids

FourTeaFallOut · 10/03/2020 14:18

Then don't go.

Furfockssake · 10/03/2020 14:18

In terms of number of cases un-tested. I read a very interesting article by a scientist who said if we assume the fatality rate is 1 per 100 people, and that it takes approximately three weeks between catching the virus and dying from it, we can assume that if in the past week we have seen 6 deaths, that three weeks ago 600 people were infected. And the number of cases will have been increasing since then. In his opinion we could assume thousands are already infected through community transmission already but we are not picking up the cases as the testing requirements are still narrow.

stoptherideiwanttogetoff · 10/03/2020 14:18

I've got a bad feeling about today's number increase 😐 after seeing Iran jump up like that .. delayed to!

NeurotrashWarrior · 10/03/2020 14:18

That's interesting suspended, hadn't heard of that. I'm not a million miles away. Did you hear about the virgin money closure too?

FlamingoAndJohn · 10/03/2020 14:18

Having worked in a school office, absolutely. People will pick their children up early for much less than that

I'm a teacher, perhaps our parents are a little less precious but I can't imagine more than one or two picking up early for that.

Cismyfatarse1 · 10/03/2020 14:19

I referred to him as an ex-pupil. I know him very, very well but am not prepared to compromise my user name, which I rather like by saying who he is. He is someone I taught, but know in other ways too.

And he is currently studying at the University and is in a position to know what is going on.

And we are all just fandoms on the internet - believe me, or don't but he was in touch this morning for advice.

ofwarren · 10/03/2020 14:19

Scientists find coronavirus can travel four times the 'safe' distance and linger in the air for over 30 minutes t.co/Is1B2s8IaD

FourTeaFallOut · 10/03/2020 14:20

You aren't being forced on holiday, you don't have insurance that will help you, make an informed decision. It's up to you but I don't think we'll be expatriating holiday makers will be a priority in a few weeks time.

ofwarren · 10/03/2020 14:20
