Travelling, making other decisions around
exposure

read up, noone can decide for you, but be aware...
Your mode of transport (train/boat/plane) is unlikely to be disinfected.
You may not be welcome back at work (forced isolation unpaid because you decided to take risk)
Getting stuck in quarantine in another country, subjected to their health service and govt restrictions on you.
What happens with your dc and school upon return.
Holiday insurance cover?

Positive ways of coping

Exercise daily, out where you won't be in close proximity (greater than 2 metres)

Eat well, healthy foods, plenty of liquid

Include natural antivirals in diet and good levels of daily vit c

Rest

Take steps to address any raised anxiety, above what might be reasonable and normal steps for keeping viral hygiene under control.
Its normal to feel more anxious, and normal to take steps to manage situation by being well prepared.

Isolation Issues

Getting sufficient shopping in on low incomes, and/or vulnerable / already isolated

Keeping on top of KEY METERS - need to top up yet in isolation - what measures are there to help

Paying mortgage/rent (private & housing associations) if not receiving sick pay

Legislation that enforced isolation = sick (for sick pay purposes)

       *********,

Primary mode of transmission is airborne droplets.

Sneeze or cough into elbow (or tissue and bin it). Droplets can travel 2m.

Secondary means of transmission touch.

Hand wash to
Break the transmission cycle from hand to mouth, eyes, nose, or to others, by 20 seconds plus thorough hand washing (soap and water).

Alcohol breaks down the outer layer of virus to effectively kill, other methods may not.
(Anti bacterial does NOT do this and overuse may risk bacterial resistance).

Use 2/3rds vol alcohol to any other additive

Apologies I should have said ‘two of the workers have NOW tested positive’... Blush

Oakmaiden · 10/03/2020 13:52

*British Airways passengers have complained of being stranded in Italy after the airline opted to cancel all flights in and out of the country until 4 April.

Jess Nicholls, 43, an enterprise change consultant, told the Press Association she felt "dumped" by the airline after it notified her by email that her flight from Rome to London would be cancelled.*

Without wanting to appear unsympathetic - did she not notice what was going on around her and what other airlines were doing?

WingingItSince1973 · 10/03/2020 13:53

6th person has died 😔

Number12 · 10/03/2020 13:55

Freezingold fantastic and a speedy recovery for those infected. Sometimes we have to stick our head above the parapet and do the right thing.

Oakmaiden · 10/03/2020 13:56

Yeah, if anything we'll see price drops at the petrol pumps.

Agreed, but if people overbuy then there could be problems with stations running out and having to wait for the next deliveries. Just like with all panic buying, it disrupts the supply chain. And totally unnecessary. Fuel is easy to buy without coming into contact with other people - lots of forecourts allow you to pay at the pump - and if we are all quarantined then you aren't going to need 4 vehicles with full tanks of fuel anyway.

AnneKipanki · 10/03/2020 13:56

I had some one in , that has family living in Italy . Said people were not following the advice .
This is anecdotal and only from ONE person but FOLLOW THE ADVICE .

Eeyoresstickhouse · 10/03/2020 13:57

@KenAdams thank you for this. Has stopped my panic for today! I'm not normally anxious about these things but when I saw that I did start panicking!

cinammonbuns · 10/03/2020 13:57

@Cismyfatarse I know someone at oxford right now and it is updated every single day how many cases they have on the website. So far it is only two.

I hate when people spread false and unjustified information.

If you would like to explain to me how an ex pupil would know more than somebody currently there then I would like to here it.

ShanghaiDiva · 10/03/2020 13:58

@FurForksSake
Exactly.
We are all capable of making sensible decisions based on our individual circumstances. No need to wait for BoJo to tell us what to do.

Choux · 10/03/2020 13:58

@freezingold well done your DH. So many families now saved from worry or illness!!!

Out of interest do you know how many days after returning home they started showing symptoms?

@Freezingold , can you share the funny video on here ?

FourTeaFallOut · 10/03/2020 14:00

But I don't think people will. How many people have you heard say they will fill up the car because of coronavirus? I haven't seen it, it makes no sense.

KenAdams · 10/03/2020 14:01

And the wait for the 2pm update begins...

In other news, public sector are finally beginning to get their business continuity plans underway (at least in my area).

cinammonbuns · 10/03/2020 14:01

If anyone is interested about real information on oxford uni cases then the webpage (which has been updated today) is here

www.ox.ac.uk/news-and-events/coronavirus-advice

and there are currently 2 confirmed cases.

They mention false reports and rumours in the latest post Hmm

BIWI · 10/03/2020 14:03

Maybe I’m crazy but I’m filling up all our vehicles (4) later.

Why would you do that @RozHuntleysStump? If anything, you'll be staying at home, not driving four bloody cars.

SunburstsOrMarbleHalls · 10/03/2020 14:03

Figures will be updated later this afternoon rather than 2pm

daffodilsandblossom · 10/03/2020 14:03

"UPDATE on coronavirus (#COVID19) testing in the UK:

Today's figures will be published later this afternoon.

We are working hard to provide you with the latest information and will tweet this out as soon as possible."

picklemewalnuts · 10/03/2020 14:03

@Annekipanki a friend living in Italy has complained since the very start that people there are not following the isolation advice. She's been very concerned.

CarrotVan · 10/03/2020 14:03

2pm update is delayed again.

People who went to Oxford wouldn't refer to themselves as pupils either @cinammonbuns Grin

Skyejuly · 10/03/2020 14:04

I've also kept my car totally full. I live rural and the local fuel station is only open 3 days a week. If I needed to see my parents last min or get a child to hospital I would struggle if fuel was harder to get.

ofwarren · 10/03/2020 14:04

Spain has reported 415 new cases of coronavirus and 5 new deaths so far today, raising total to 1,646 cases and 35 dead

OldQueen1969 · 10/03/2020 14:05

Greetings all - hope everyone is muddling through as positively as possible and thanks for the updates etc - this thread is still my go to for the broad overview of the situation both news wise and seeing how other people are thinking and feeling - communication is everything I feel.

Morbid question alert - as we see a sixth fatality in the UK (RIP and much sadness obviously) would it be of any statistical use to routinely test anyone who dies of anything as an additional marker of asymptomatic cases? Maybe not obvious accidents etc, but certainly health conditions? Might it show up patterns of risk and location? And if lots have passed in hospital and test positive would that not help with control? Call me an idiot if this is the current protocol but I just wondered ?
