Travelling, making other decisions around
exposure

read up, noone can decide for you, but be aware...
Your mode of transport (train/boat/plane) is unlikely to be disinfected.
You may not be welcome back at work (forced isolation unpaid because you decided to take risk)
Getting stuck in quarantine in another country, subjected to their health service and govt restrictions on you.
What happens with your dc and school upon return.
Holiday insurance cover?

Positive ways of coping

Exercise daily, out where you won't be in close proximity (greater than 2 metres)

Eat well, healthy foods, plenty of liquid

Include natural antivirals in diet and good levels of daily vit c

Rest

Take steps to address any raised anxiety, above what might be reasonable and normal steps for keeping viral hygiene under control.
Its normal to feel more anxious, and normal to take steps to manage situation by being well prepared.

Isolation Issues

Getting sufficient shopping in on low incomes, and/or vulnerable / already isolated

Keeping on top of KEY METERS - need to top up yet in isolation - what measures are there to help

Paying mortgage/rent (private & housing associations) if not receiving sick pay

Legislation that enforced isolation = sick (for sick pay purposes)

       <strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong>**,

Primary mode of transmission is airborne droplets.

Sneeze or cough into elbow (or tissue and bin it). Droplets can travel 2m.

Secondary means of transmission touch.

Hand wash to
Break the transmission cycle from hand to mouth, eyes, nose, or to others, by 20 seconds plus thorough hand washing (soap and water).

Alcohol breaks down the outer layer of virus to effectively kill, other methods may not.
(Anti bacterial does NOT do this and overuse may risk bacterial resistance).

Use 2/3rds vol alcohol to any other additive

Maybe I’m crazy but I’m filling up all our vehicles (4) later. Then stocking up on whatever I can get from the supermarket. Also, I am getting my house in order. Cleaned, tidy, organised. Basically I’m expecting a strong possibility of illness/shortages, and I’m getting really bloody worried now.
My poor autistic son is so worried and I’m reassuring him that he will be ok but things that he enjoys are being cancelled and it’s all over the news. His anxiety is through the roof.

SassyBrassyBitch · 10/03/2020 13:23

My DH is going away to Barcelona in 2 days for a stag do, they're going to a cannabis festival with thousands of people.

I'm really upset and he thinks nothing is wrong.

The people who run it are refusing to cancel

Would you be pissed off at him??
I don't know if I'm Iver reacting

SistemaAddict · 10/03/2020 13:25

Cannabis festival?? Wtf

namechangemania · 10/03/2020 13:25

@SassyBrassyBitch I wouldn’t be happy in your shoes. Also, cannabis festival? Hmm

Banana0pancakes · 10/03/2020 13:28

A cannabis festival? Would the smoking make it worse or would the cannabis help symptoms? Quite an intriguing petri dish they'll have going on.

Fwiw you're not unreasonable, I'm not sure I'd want him home for 2 weeks after that!

picklemewalnuts · 10/03/2020 13:29

@Bumblesbumbles, that's much clearer, thank you!

Choux · 10/03/2020 13:30

@cjt thanks. I thought it was updated at 9am the day after the 2pm announcement.

The Dep CMOs pronouncements that the start of the UK peak will be within a fortnight has got my anxiety levels up. Parents are 80 plus (one with heart failure, one with Alzheimer's and a 70+ year smoking habit) and living in sheltered housing so around a lot of other old people, carers, managers, residents' families etc.

Am going to call the manager later but I expect at some point they will close it to visitors. Depending on when I may not have a chance to visit before it locks down. Am in Central London and already worried about being the person that actually takes it to them.

picklemewalnuts · 10/03/2020 13:31

I read an interesting article on why soap is so good.

Question for chemist type peeps, is it better than disinfectant for household surfaces? Should I wash my door handles and light switches with very soapy water, or use disinfectant?

Sadly now the stark realities of a grossly under-resourced NHS may become even clearer.

Some Big businesses are being more responsible than many governments, IMO.

Bumblesbumbles · 10/03/2020 13:37

I feel we have a window of opportunity to change the course of the outbreak in the UK. Even small measures like suggesting working from home where possible would help. If we mirror Italy that would be awful for the economy. We are days behind the real figures because of the diagnosis times, and we aren’t testing community cases - so really we don’t know how much it’s spreading in the community currently.
Whinge over!

A fuel shortage? Give over.

Furfockssake · 10/03/2020 13:41

The one thing I don't understand is why people are waiting for the Government to act - they are not playing the same numbers game as each individual. They need to act when they think restrictions on mobility and social interaction are going to have the greatest effect, reduce the number of infections and ultimately reduce the number of deaths. But they also say we will absolutely see more infections and more deaths.

As individuals we have to work out the level of risk that we are individually happy with. The Government isn't saying anyone is 'safe' flying at the moment, or going on the tube, or mixing with thousands of people at events - they're just saying it's low risk. So if you feel the risk is to high to do certain things, don't wait for the Government to tell you not to do them - they are not saying people are not going to get the virus - they are trying to manage a situation in which thousands and thousands of people are going to get infected.
