Travelling, making other decisions around
exposure

read up, noone can decide for you, but be aware...
Your mode of transport (train/boat/plane) is unlikely to be disinfected.
You may not be welcome back at work (forced isolation unpaid because you decided to take risk)
Getting stuck in quarantine in another country, subjected to their health service and govt restrictions on you.
What happens with your dc and school upon return.
Holiday insurance cover?

Positive ways of coping

Exercise daily, out where you won't be in close proximity (greater than 2 metres)

Eat well, healthy foods, plenty of liquid

Include natural antivirals in diet and good levels of daily vit c

Rest

Take steps to address any raised anxiety, above what might be reasonable and normal steps for keeping viral hygiene under control.
Its normal to feel more anxious, and normal to take steps to manage situation by being well prepared.

Isolation Issues

Getting sufficient shopping in on low incomes, and/or vulnerable / already isolated

Keeping on top of KEY METERS - need to top up yet in isolation - what measures are there to help

Paying mortgage/rent (private & housing associations) if not receiving sick pay

Legislation that enforced isolation = sick (for sick pay purposes)

       <strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong>**,

Primary mode of transmission is airborne droplets.

Sneeze or cough into elbow (or tissue and bin it). Droplets can travel 2m.

Secondary means of transmission touch.

Hand wash to
Break the transmission cycle from hand to mouth, eyes, nose, or to others, by 20 seconds plus thorough hand washing (soap and water).

Alcohol breaks down the outer layer of virus to effectively kill, other methods may not.
(Anti bacterial does NOT do this and overuse may risk bacterial resistance).

Use 2/3rds vol alcohol to any other additive

Does anyone know anything about when hand gel might start coming back into stock anywhere?

I got some this morning in superdrug, they keep it behind the counter and you have to ask for it. Only 2 per customer.

ScatteredMama82 · 10/03/2020 13:10

@NormaLousieBates, could he carry a big bottle of water and some soap? Just a thought.

MarshaBradyo · 10/03/2020 13:11

It is a bit annoying if people keep travelling to Italy despite guidance because they’ll be moving through airport etc on return and that’s if they do follow self isolate instruction (which unless enforced hard to know if they do).

ChipotleBlessing · 10/03/2020 13:11

@FourTeaFallOut I don’t see how it’s possible? There weren’t any cases closer than the ones from York two weeks ago?

FourTeaFallOut · 10/03/2020 13:11

We might have had a clue as to what was going on if someone had thought on to put a solitary sentinel practice somewhere in the North East.

TheMustressMhor · 10/03/2020 13:11

I had always thought I would enjoy a cruise.

However, having seen what cruise ships are like, I am glad that I never shelled out ££ on one.

The boats do not look inviting - the accommodation seems like a 1960s block of flats. I thought there was supposed to be some luxury? It looks unbelievably grim.

Bumblesbumbles · 10/03/2020 13:12

@SummerSazz- it’s not easy to follow! I agree- it looks like for community cases you must fulfil both the epidemiological (known contact with confirmed cases or high risk travel) and clinical criteria at present. Not sure though so welcome others thoughts!

MarshaBradyo · 10/03/2020 13:13

A luxury suite with a balcony us better at least you get air. Not that I’ve been on one too claustrophobic. Actually got freaked out in a hotel designed to be like a ship - low ceilings long corridors. Was 😳

ChipotleBlessing · 10/03/2020 13:15

@FourTeaFallOut I think if there was community spread on a wide scale they’d have picked some of it up in the testing from the Newcastle cluster? One of them worked in Sunderland. But it’s a bit of a mystery how this woman can have acquired it.

MangePasTesOnglesVilain · 10/03/2020 13:16

We must be due our daily visit from the justflufolks soon.

I've just made some fantastic fridge leftover soup and frozen some. I wrote what it is on it so that if I'm ill others will know what it is.

Choux · 10/03/2020 13:17

Why hasn't the cases in each local authority been updated today? Am checking for cases where my elderly parents live but it still says as @ 9am yesterday.

FourTeaFallOut · 10/03/2020 13:17

Fingers crossed

cjt110 · 10/03/2020 13:18

@Choux it's not updated 'til 2pm

KarenTookTheKids · 10/03/2020 13:18

Mange, I am wondering if events in Italy will make some of the 'its just flu' campaigners wise up a bit and take it more seriously

yolofish · 10/03/2020 13:18

with you on that mustress. And I'm sure you meet some lovely people - and also some people that you would never ever want to spend 10 seconds of your life with, let alone get stuck on a cruise ship with!

(My DM went on a cruise and met a very nice lesbian couple. One of them was quite fussy about where she'd eat. DM announced when telling us about her cruise "X said she didnt like eating downstairs". To which DH replied "Oh I think you'll find she did...". It took DM a little while to twig what he meant while the rest of us were rolling on the floor with laughter Grin)

Sorry off topic. Waiting to hear if France will be added to the no visit list, as we are due there the week after next to visit DD1. French Alps, very close to Italy - she can ski across.

NeurotrashWarrior · 10/03/2020 13:19

The "new drug" in the Sunderland article is encouraging.

1happyhippie · 10/03/2020 13:20

They don’t update the local cases until late afternoon.
We get told around 2pm how many cases there are since 9am this morning, then wait for the next update regarding areas.

MustBeDueSomeBetterFeet · 10/03/2020 13:20

@Choux I might be mis-reading this but I think the numbers are shared at 2pm for England, but are based on numbers calculated/collected at 9am. There's I assume some analysis etc going on between those two points in time.

Sunshinesky1981 · 10/03/2020 13:20

@MangePasTesOnglesVilain Going by some of the other threads on here i would imagine a lot of them are far too busy writing angry emails to Ocado/Tesco to point out their disgust at not being able to get next day delivery slots Hmm

SummerSazz · 10/03/2020 13:21

Thanks @Bumblesbumble - that doesn't seem to be any change in testing criteria then?

AnneKipanki · 10/03/2020 13:21

Peter , did say in the press conference that there was community spread .

SummerSazz · 10/03/2020 13:22

@yolofish Grin

In a very small local supermarket this morning it was clear people were keeping a good one metre distance. I turned into chocolate isle and three people looked at me with panicked eyes (2 of the 3 were together) the two together promptly moved on.

I was out sunday night (in a warehouse so some ventilation) a bloke next go us had a dry cough and I freaked and had to move to a different location. My 14 ds was not impressed with me.

Bumblesbumbles · 10/03/2020 13:22

@SummerSazz- think it must be change to hospital definition if I’m reading correctly

ForeverRedSkinhead · 10/03/2020 13:23

@FingonTheValiant she was supposed to be covered by the school's group policy. Yesterday she arrived home and announced that individual cover was being advised , no letter for parents , a verbal message from a 13yo only.

It's a bloody mess isn't it? I feel so bad for her missing her big trip.
