Travelling, making other decisions around
exposure

read up, noone can decide for you, but be aware...
Your mode of transport (train/boat/plane) is unlikely to be disinfected.
You may not be welcome back at work (forced isolation unpaid because you decided to take risk)
Getting stuck in quarantine in another country, subjected to their health service and govt restrictions on you.
What happens with your dc and school upon return.
Holiday insurance cover?

Positive ways of coping

Exercise daily, out where you won't be in close proximity (greater than 2 metres)

Eat well, healthy foods, plenty of liquid

Include natural antivirals in diet and good levels of daily vit c

Rest

Take steps to address any raised anxiety, above what might be reasonable and normal steps for keeping viral hygiene under control.
Its normal to feel more anxious, and normal to take steps to manage situation by being well prepared.

Isolation Issues

Getting sufficient shopping in on low incomes, and/or vulnerable / already isolated

Keeping on top of KEY METERS - need to top up yet in isolation - what measures are there to help

Paying mortgage/rent (private & housing associations) if not receiving sick pay

Legislation that enforced isolation = sick (for sick pay purposes)

       <strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong>**,

Primary mode of transmission is airborne droplets.

Sneeze or cough into elbow (or tissue and bin it). Droplets can travel 2m.

Secondary means of transmission touch.

Hand wash to
Break the transmission cycle from hand to mouth, eyes, nose, or to others, by 20 seconds plus thorough hand washing (soap and water).

Alcohol breaks down the outer layer of virus to effectively kill, other methods may not.
(Anti bacterial does NOT do this and overuse may risk bacterial resistance).

Use 2/3rds vol alcohol to any other additive

Am I right in thinking this-
Peak expected to start in two weeks. Peak will last around 9 weeks (95%of cases) and super peak the middle 3 weeks of those 9 weeks (50%of all cases)
So we’re looking at the peak of this possibly in 2-11 weeks and 50%of all cases coming around 5 weeks away until 8 weeks away???

When they say hypertension does that include people who are obese medication so their blood pressure is stable? My husband takes ramipril for high blood pressure and it is managed well with this medication but it is horrendous without the medication. Does this mean he is still a very high risk?

Oakmaiden · 10/03/2020 13:46

A fuel shortage? Give over.

Well, they are caused by too many people thinking "I will buy more than I need, just in case I can't get some later." So, if lots of people do as Roz has said she is planning, then yes, a fuel shortage is likely. Just like the toilet roll and pasta shortage has been caused by too many people stocking up "just in case".

Furfockssake · 10/03/2020 13:46

@Captaindobbin thats what our understanding was, although think peak might be at 11 weeks from now - I think last week they said the peak would be 12 weeks away, 9 weeks with 95%, 3 weeks in middle with 50%. So I would think we would start seeing numbers pick up dramatically over the next two weeks.

Eeyoresstickhouse · 10/03/2020 13:47

*on medication not obese ffs

emsy86 · 10/03/2020 13:48

Obviously its not good that it has come to it and we can only pray the NHS can cope with the expected peak. But is anyone else got a small sense of relief that if they are right that at least come the summer this will hopefully be a thing of the past? [i know they cant guarantee that it will be the end]

Cismyfatarse1 · 10/03/2020 13:48

Several cases in Oxford University. No source as it came via an ex pupil but they have got separate facilities ready, should it be required, to avoid travel risks of sending people home.

What a mess that will create!!

peachgreen · 10/03/2020 13:49

@emsy86 I'm hoping we'll be through the worst outbreak by then but I think it's very unlikely we'll be able to say it's a thing of the past. It's here to stay. But hopefully within a year or so we'll have a vaccine that gives similar immunity to the flu vaccine.

Captaindobbin · 10/03/2020 13:49

Furfockssake - yes that’s exactly what I meant. So starting in two weeks and lasting 9 weeks with a mega peak in the middle where 50% of the cases will come.
So we’re looking at a tough 3 months really and just got to hope it does settle a bit by summer

cologne4711 · 10/03/2020 13:50

Cadbury's taking staff temperatures

Not much use with the women, as our temperatures and heart rates fluctuate over our monthly cycles. If someone is ill they will know they are ill, not sure you have a temperature if you are not experiencing symptoms.

MangePasTesOnglesVilain · 10/03/2020 13:50

I though they were flooding the market with oil due to a dispute between Russia and Saudi and prices had crashed.

They are expecting massively decreased demand due to the disruption caused by the virus. the price has plummeted by notre than a third.

So there should be plenty oil, unless there's logistical problems.

Freezingold · 10/03/2020 13:51

I’d just like to say how proud I am of my family! And of the excellent information from this thread and also elsewhere. After informing myself early, I spoke to DH and teenage son.

DH, after discussion with me, felt sufficiently concerned to stop 20 workers coming back from a ski trip from Italy returning to work for 14 days. He manages 100s of people in a major employer for our area. They had no symptoms, and he got a lot of opposition for it.

Two of those workers have no tested positive for Coronavirus! So he’s saved his whole workplace from drastic quarantine measures.

My teenage son has been telling all his mates and sharing a funny video about washing your hands. It’s a great video appealing to his peers, and so they’ve shared it loads of times and are now, he says, taking the washing hands message a lot more seriously.

None of us are panicked. But I do feel quite proud of them!

Freezingold · 10/03/2020 13:51

I should say that DH did this two weeks ago, when no one was as concerned about returns from Italy as they are now.

KenAdams · 10/03/2020 13:52

@Eeyoresstickhouse I have the same condition and from what I understand if it's managed it's ok - it's unmanaged conditions that are more susceptible.

I will say though I had to come off Ramipril as it gave me a constant dry cough. I didn't know that's what was causing the cough until someone told me. I'm on Losartan instead now.

WingingItSince1973 · 10/03/2020 13:52

My mum works at our local comprehensive where a family are self isolating after being in contact with a pupil from another school who has tested positive for coronavirus. Now I know the chances are slim they have it but my mums attitude towards this is that we are all making such a huge deal out of it and those with it wont probably notice it and the elderly should just stay at home and have their family bring them food! Now my mum is 64 with high blood pressure and my dad is 74 with underlying health issues. They live a stones throw from me so I see them alot. They wont listen. Super denial that this could get dire. Dont really care about those that die as to them they probably are on their way out anyway! Anyone else have family like this???
