@Apricotfool I was hoping the same re: WFH. All I'd need is a govt endorsement and I'd be able to avoid commuting into London...

MarshaBradyo · 09/03/2020 13:16

I agree on wfh if you can, I keep saying it too, it’s an easy win low impact.

ofwarren · 09/03/2020 13:17

So did I book
I shared before reading it probably.
Sorry about that!

FourTeaFallOut · 09/03/2020 13:17

Hopefully Rome told the trains and buses about the lock down before the public.

usernameishistory · 09/03/2020 13:18

Strategy to minimise deaths, has a corollary to collapse of economies across the world (who in turn support healthcare and wider community vulnerability)

I'm not sure if people really realise the impact they can have on this with their own actions.

I wish at least this would be pushed a lot more, as just telling people to wash hands doesn't cut it, despite it breaking the transmission cycle, it doesn't make people buy into the issue amd how key this simple step can be to personal safety.

I get the points about the economy but when are they going to put life before money? When this all passes we will have money but a lot of lives could of been lost. This is what concerns me.

HelgaHere1 · 09/03/2020 13:18

If everyone's quarantined who is manning ambulances, supermarkets, petrol stations, gps surgeries.

fedup21 · 09/03/2020 13:18

I really think this burying head in the sand is a mistake.

Gov needs to encourage WFH where possible and
Cancel fines for school absences.

helia · 09/03/2020 13:19

I want to WFH too. People coughing in my office is sending my anxiety levels through the roof, and I hate having to commute by public transport.

Lycidas · 09/03/2020 13:21

When France reached 100 cases and 2 deaths, it banned all indoor gatherings of over 5000 people. We can't even take that kind of step...embarrassing.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 09/03/2020 13:21

oIf the stock market crashes, it will recover. I have lived through a few stock market crashes. It affects the rich most

No, it doesn’t. It affects the borrowing, small businesses, the NHS and all social benefits.

It affects all of us.

Laniakea · 09/03/2020 13:21

Do you seriously think only "their friends" will feel the effects of £130 billion being wiped off the FTSE this morning?

^this - my 65 year old dad was back on a building site this morning as his pension fund is suffering. If covid doesn't kill him, he'll work himself to death.

We're young enough to take the pension hit, 60+ aren't.

usernameishistory · 09/03/2020 13:22

Anxiety is reason for sick, is it not?

www.indy100.com/article/coronavirus-tfl-test-positive-tube-worker-covid-19-london-9387516
A Transport for London (TfL) worker has tested positive for coronavirus, it has been revealed.

The employee is said to work in the capital’s traffic control centre building in Blackfriars, and doesn’t work aboard the Tube trains. So commuters can, for now, breathe a brief sigh of relief.

Babyfairy0923 · 09/03/2020 13:22

When are we getting the outcome of the meeting?

Jerseygaly · 09/03/2020 13:22

But the gov are hiding now serious this is from everyone.
Why would they change behaviour if you are told it's only elderly and 1% rather than the 3.4% who said

One thing for them to consider is Drs often work nhs and private. If they all get infected and infect the private premises too... The rich won't get medical treatment either.

fedup21 · 09/03/2020 13:22

Six inmates protesting virus containment measures at a northern Italian lock-up have died after breaking into the infirmary and taking overdoses, the Associated Press reports.

Prisoners broke into the infirmary and 6 of them committed suicide? That sounds really strange Confused

DoTheNextRightThing · 09/03/2020 13:23

We have one confirmed case at my work, but no sign of closing down at the moment. Major incident team are meeting daily however to monitor situation.

Number12 · 09/03/2020 13:23

If the stock market crashes, it will recover. I have lived through a few stock market crashes. It affects the rich most.

This is simply NOT true.

fezzesarecool · 09/03/2020 13:23

Really, still in containment when clearly it’s not being contained at all

My feeling is, no reports just a feeling, the government wants to get to the Easter holidays that way the schools are closed without actually being shut down

It’s the inaction that makes me not trust how they are going to handle this once it gets bad, I’m glad we have this thread because it makes me feel prepared

NeurotrashWarrior · 09/03/2020 13:24

I'd love to WFH; tricky if you're a teacher!

fedup21 · 09/03/2020 13:24

When are we getting the outcome of the meeting?

We’ve had it, @Babyfairy0923

It’s...

Carry on as normal, everything is fine-nothing to see here.

cheninblanc · 09/03/2020 13:25

So the plan is business as usual. I despair

alloutoffucks · 09/03/2020 13:25

Okay maybe I am wrong. But I have lived through a few stock market crashes and it has never affected this low paid worker one bit.
