but if it's all hysterical exaggertaion, you won't need that advice

Italy did not know who patient 1 was@WorriedMutha .

usernameishistory · 08/03/2020 19:33

Thank you @WorriedAcademic

@Bearbehind

Theres been lots of ongoing practical and emotional support. I hope you find something helpful in the efforts others have made to share this info for others.

but if it’s all hysterical exaggeration, you won’t need that advice

BCF you are one of the biggest scaremongers on here.

I’ll ask again - what are these threads hoping to achieve?

As someone has pointed out, the basic advice and really all anyone can do is outlined on about post 4 - so what is the aim of the rest of the discussion, if not to whip emotions up into a frenzy?

BigChocFrenzy · 08/03/2020 19:37

"BCF you are one of the biggest scaremongers on here."

Rubbish
I quote from Public Health estimate and official stats
I'm not even one of those in favour of closing schools

peachgreen · 08/03/2020 19:37

@Bearbehind Personally I'm finding it comforting to have people to talk to who are of a similar mindset. It means I don't feel the need to discuss with my colleagues / family etc and can try to be a sensible voice of reason for them. It also means I get all the news and info from one place and can avoid refreshing the news sites. If it doesn't work for you, you don't have to read it.

usernameishistory · 08/03/2020 19:37

If you're worried, genuinely, do step away, @Bearbehind

If others keep repeating they do find it useful is not convincing you I'm not sure how arguing will help that?

Just wondering how lock downs ( if they ever do happen!) actually work. I have a (stupid unprepared ) student son in uni in a county that is one of the most affected. This is completely the other side of the country to us. If "they" do decide to lock down is it likely to be county wide? Are they given warning? For example would he be able to get a train home or does this defeat the object of the lock down? So confused and nervous!

Oh and I really appreciate all these threads. I have been a huge disaster movie fan all my life, but the reality of living in one is a bit different! Hmm

France discussing whether to move from Stage 2 to Stage 3 alert (epidemic level), press conference just started on Sky channel 512

AnneKipanki · 08/03/2020 19:38

Drones were on exit roads . People had to show their phone to a QR .
Not allowed to exit depending on status of health.

France staying at Stage 2 for now

GPwife2411 · 08/03/2020 19:39

@Bearbehind - so far I've managed to:

  • link up with other spouses of medics for mutual support
  • share details of a hand gel source with families of immunocompromised individuals
  • discuss new research studies and consider their implications
  • discuss self-care and measures to help maintain balance and proportion in the current environment
  • share frustrations with the way staff in primary care are being treated in a way that I just can't in real life, due to anonymity

So, that's just for me. I guess other people will have got other things out of it as we're all individuals.

BigChocFrenzy · 08/03/2020 19:40

"I’ll ask again - what are these threads hoping to achieve?"

We are chatting about the crisis
We don't have to justify ourselves to anyone and we won't be shut down

If these threads are so useless, why on earth bother with them?

There's a whole MN Coronavirus topic to start your own series of threads just the way you like them

Bearbehind · 08/03/2020 19:40

Lol! BCF

You don’t even realise how biased your posts actually are.

usernameishistory · 08/03/2020 19:40

@Bearbehind

This obviously isn't suiting you as a way of dealing with the evolving CV19 situation.

Doing it this way helps those doing it this way.

You may have a different and/or better way, start a thread on that and you may be joined by others who feel the same and you can all support each other there.

It won't help you any to keep trying to knock others doing it differently to you.

OP posts:
ItsNotJustTheFuckingFlu · 08/03/2020 19:41

They're probably so like minded people can chat to each other rather than posters consciously wording their posts to deliberately panic and scare people.

Theres plenty of topics that bore the tits off me on here, or seen utterly pointless discussions to me, I wouldn't wade in and tell them they have to stop talking about something they want to talk about though, I just ignore and read something that interests me.

Orangeblossom78 · 08/03/2020 19:41

Does anyone else feel that the BBC news is kind of brushing over the UK figures, going straight to Spain; they seemed to do that this evening on the news I felt. Brief mention of over 200 here now and that was it. Feeling a bit uninformed

Jumpingintotheabyss · 08/03/2020 19:41

Worried

I'm sure someone said lots of Chinese workers around Milan /fashion industry

TheRealHousewife · 08/03/2020 19:42

I just wanted to say I appreciate @ofwarren s posts.

todayisnottuesday · 08/03/2020 19:43

To all the people that have a problem... log off or look at other posts that you actually agree with rather than sticking your nose in where quite frankly, it's not wanted!!

FFS, really?

I'm well aware that this should be taken seriously, but also think there is a fine line between spreading panic and spreading RELIABLE information - shouting down posters who have queried sources is not helpful, nor is posting opinion as fact.

Bearbehind · 08/03/2020 19:43

OP, I’m not pretending to have the answers here, I don’t believe anyone does.

I’m just asking what you hope to gain from people posting every single update on CV and speculating in a generally negative way?

WaterSheep · 08/03/2020 19:44

share frustrations with the way staff in primary care are being treated in a way that I just can't in real life, due to anonymity

In a slightly similar vein to this.

As someone who works in a school it's nice to have somewhere to admit we have no plans in place, and hear from others in the same position. Our parents / carers seem to think we're being given advice and have things in place should we have to close.

quiteathome · 08/03/2020 19:44

Thanks for the posts. I am just watching and following.

confusedandtired99 · 08/03/2020 19:44

Before throwing stones in a glass house check out how biased your own posting is please. Biscuit

TheElementsOfMedical · 08/03/2020 19:45

I'm thinking of going on the Pokemon Go threads and shouting at them to stop posting stuff because it doesn't interest me. And the Beauty threads to demand what use they are.
