My best friend is in Florence on holiday - anyone know how things are there ? Is the yellow zone going to be extended to the whole country ?

Ohchristmastreeohchristmastree · 08/03/2020 19:45

Bearbehind

I’ve been taking extra Vitamin D and going to bed earlier (30mins earlier) in hope of boosting my immune system. I’ve been getting off my phone a couple of hours before bed too.
I’ve also been making myself take the dog on a good walk and keeping up with my usual exercise. Washing hands etc.

Bearbehind · 08/03/2020 19:46

Before throwing stones in a glass house check out how biased your own posting is please

How is it biased to think it’s a shit situation that we can’t do much about and scaremongering isn’t helpful?

Youngatheart00 · 08/03/2020 19:46

@Bearbehind the only person posting in a negative way, consistently on more than one thread, is you. As others have said, if there is nothing of interest for you on these threads then please join another discussion.

pussycatinboots · 08/03/2020 19:46

Bear is there a particular reason you have singled out BCF for your persistent and rather tedious questions?

ShanghaiDiva · 08/03/2020 19:47

@AnneKipanki
Yes, we had to do that in China. Perhaps society is different here, but people complied in China because they were scared : no vaccine and a 14 day incubation period. With the huge number of cases it was clear that extreme measures were necessary,.

quiteathome · 08/03/2020 19:47

I am also concerned as I live in a commuter area. Wondering whether this will be reflected in the spread of virus. I don't know if people are still travelling in every day.

AnneKipanki · 08/03/2020 19:47

@Bearbehind
I was answering your post from 19 minutes ago .

You can't give up work.
Keep kids off school, blah blah .

How do you think they stopped it in Wuhan ?
Very strict conditions were imposed .

Horehound · 08/03/2020 19:48

So how come Italy are so bad and have such high numbers?

Awkward1 · 08/03/2020 19:48

on dr Xand twitter he has a specialist saying what we are saying about the percentage and potential overload of beds

usernameishistory · 08/03/2020 19:48

@Bearbehind

Its not working for you.

You dont have to understand why it's working here for us and the lurkers.

Your posts come across as a bit baiting now, and certainly not contributing constructively.

Its a highly sensitive issue to many.

We can't make this helpful to you. Your way is different, which is fine

PMSL - so it’s ‘negative’ to try and be positive and not wallow it things we can’t control 🤔

peachgreen · 08/03/2020 19:49

How is it biased to think it’s a shit situation that we can’t do much about

Because we can do stuff about it and that's the whole point of these threads. Thanks to these threads I'm prepared for a lock down, I've helped my extended family and my elderly neighbour prepare, I've swapped tips with my pregnant colleague on how she can avoid it as much as possible, I've persuaded my boss that pregnant colleague should be able to work from home etc etc.

fezzesarecool · 08/03/2020 19:49

I just want to say that I find this thread a great source of support, especially as in RL, no one’s talking

I only work on Sundays and it was very interesting that there is still so many people with misinformation and the comments focused on not being able to get the items they want etc Instead if the bigger picture like doing what we can to protect the vulnerable and the long term ripple affects from this

I actually had to bite my tongue when 2 staff members where just laughing about the whole thing and a lot of people are in for a massive shock There are many people that are very capable of taking steps to help themselves and others around them at the minute but the blinkers are on and when the penny finally does drop it will be too late to do anything to control your own personal circumstances

I will be happy to be proved wrong on all of this but I’m prepared for the worst and anything else is a bonus

Bearbehind · 08/03/2020 19:49

Very strict conditions were imposed

Yes - and do you see that happening in Europe or the US?

UM CorVid19 cases double every 2 days. So 100+ today. 200 sat 400 mon 3200 in 8 days. 200,000 in a couple of weeks. 5-10% need ICU = 10-20k: 2-4x number of UK ICU beds, which are already full. Do your bit. Wash hands. Self isolate.

Michelleoftheresistance · 08/03/2020 19:50

Bear please go start a thread of your own if you want to talk about how unimportant this all is and stop disrupting this thread for your own reasons. I'm sure you'll have plenty of people who'll be happy to talk about it with you. And I'm pretty sure no one here will be sufficiently rude to come disrupt it, or make it all about them.

ShanghaiDiva · 08/03/2020 19:51

@Bearbehind
I agree with you that reporting on every single case achieves nothing. Knowledge is not useful unless you do something with it and prepare a plan b.
I have lived with this situation for 6 weeks and have had several plan bs!

Bearbehind · 08/03/2020 19:51

Bear is there a particular reason you have singled out BCF for your persistent and rather tedious questions?

I haven’t, I’ve been responding to multiple posters.

Sadly you all seem to want to wallow in you doom mongering

Like I said, I’ve no idea what you seek to achieve from it and none of you can explain.

MangePasTesOnglesVilain · 08/03/2020 19:52

I imagine since the beginning of our species humans have discussed potential threats in order to prepare and form strategies for different outcomes.

Our ability to communicate through language for events such as these is probably why we have survived so well and managed to overpopulate the planet.

peachgreen · 08/03/2020 19:53

@Bearbehind Lots of people have explained. You're clearly not posting in good faith.

Bearbehind · 08/03/2020 19:53

So how come Italy are so bad and have such high numbers?

This is worthy of much thought.

What has happened in Italy to make it so bad there?

What can we learn from that?

BigChocFrenzy · 08/03/2020 19:53

In Germany, the health minister has recommended that all events planned for 1,000+ people be cancelled.

That's e.g. trade fairs - most have been cancelled already - also football matches & other sporting events

Big difference to the UK is that Germany is a Federal state, so each of the 16 states has their own Parliament and PM, who have the final say on such things

The CDU are suggesting the football league goes ahead, but playing in closed stadiums
Looks likely to happen

What are the chances of this happening in the UK ?

pussycatinboots · 08/03/2020 19:53

*Very strict conditions were imposed

Yes - and do you see that happening in Europe or the US?*

pre-fucking-cisely! They aren't and that is why many of us on this thread are so bloody concerned for ourselves and our loved ones.
If the bloody useless government won't tell me what is going on, and mumsnet will....
draw your own conclusions.
