No problem. Let's hope it goes more smoothly this time.

fedup21 · 09/03/2020 11:49

no other countries have closed their parliaments or equivalents wheresmymojoBut they have closed schools, banned large events, and locked down specific areas.Very bad look for the U.K. govt to be talking about their own interests first.

Absolutely-where would be the justification for that? They would look utterly self serving and selfish.

650 people sitting for parliament is not much different from many work places, public transport, schools etc etc

There will be national outrage and parents will be up in arms.

There was one case that might have incubated for 24, but scientists at WHO were inclined to suspect the patient had been exposed to coronavirus later on and developed it after the second exposure.

Meanwhile studies not only suggest a 2-14 day quarantine period in more than adequate for just about everyone else, they show that the vast majority of people develop symptoms inside the first week.

So I'm not worrying about the possibility that there might be a tiny, tiny number of outliers who incubate it for more than 14 days.

@peredito it could simply be more resources being trained to do the test.

peridito · 09/03/2020 11:53

Good point hound ,thanks .

Also at a time when there might be decisions to be made.
But tbh I think no-one would turn up.
I understand they are likely older.
But still manly have to work until 65+
I don't have a problem with them
Self isolating or not going in dec
BUT it is them that would have created this mess by not closing borders or flights.
What realistic and a good idea have they actually done
-try to get nhs retired staff in? Clearly won't work

They have not
-stopped plane loads of infected
Not stopped loads returning straight to work from italy
-won't close schools
-haven't even been cleaning things more
-want volunteers to go in and help but even with ppe it has to be slightly dangerous
I

There are quite a few cases around here now, looking at the symptoms chart that looks similar to what DS was in hospital with. We are now back home and I am planning on keeping him off of childcare for 2 weeks in case as it's such close contact, and as it's unlikely to actually be this but could, am I better off staying in for 2 weeks too? I am off work at the moment do dont have that to consider. As I understand it tests take a few days to come back? So not sure if it's best to be on the safe side.

Thank you for that valuable caveat PotholeParadise

Both the Express and Star and Birmingham Mail reported a case in Wolverhampton yesterday.

With regard to Parliament being closed down. If that happened, it would come in with a raft of other measures too, such as closing schools/theatres/gyms etc. surely?!!

I still think that the Govt. are following the modelling as the CMO and Science chap said, and have a point where certain actions will swing in to place, depending on what's going on with the numbers here.

AliciaWhiskers · 09/03/2020 12:02

@burntpinky what are the details released about the Guernsey case?

Quartz2208 · 09/03/2020 12:03

delatron I think how medical professions term mild/moderate and us are different.

Mild/moderate to them is self limiting without medical intervention - mild pneumonia and nasty flu both cover that. We assume mild means we wont feel the affects. It doesnt it means that you will fully recover without medical intervention

fedup21 · 09/03/2020 12:04

I still think that the Govt. are following the modelling as the CMO and Science chap said, and have a point where certain actions will swing in to place, depending on what's going on with the numbers here

I wonder if they have decided a number of cases/deaths/rate increase that triggers these actions?

Or is it just a ‘we’re not quite there yet, things aren’t THAT bad’?

With regard to Parliament being closed down. If that happened, it would come in with a raft of other measures too, such as closing schools/theatres/gyms etc. surely?!!

I hope you are right.

@ofwarren Unsure if you're misreading my posts. Widespread testing isn't available. With a family of six all of us coming down with a virus one after the other lasts longer than two weeks. I have to consider replenishing food supplies and fresh air on our own property.

Some turnip on BBC news saying, 'for instance I was at Twickenham this weekend which was a large amount of people'
And??!!

So, that's ok then.?

In reference to probability at the moment of not halting large events.
