Bear

Because its a chat.

We are not professionals here, no one is claiming to provide a news service.

You do understand mumsnet is a chat forum.
So when people meet in a coffee shop they chat, it's not an conference led by experts?

It's a chat forum.
I'm sorry your not getting what you need from this one thread.
Perhaps if your after more facts, the news might be better?

MarshaBradyo · 08/03/2020 20:31

Why is anyone posting here, especially on threads they don’t even find useful or time worthy.

SuckingDieselFella · 08/03/2020 20:31

@todayisnottuesday

Well said.

HeIenaDove · 08/03/2020 20:32

@Jumpingintotheabyss When my aunt came to my wedding in 1998 she kissed me on both cheeks and rubbed her hands on my face. Its just their way of greeting.

Notonthestairs · 08/03/2020 20:32

extraordinary how many people find the threads unhelpful/baffling and yet linger on them day after day.

AnneKipanki · 08/03/2020 20:33

BTW everyone, Dr John Campbell re-recorded his YouTube post again today as there were sound problems yesterday.

todayisnottuesday · 08/03/2020 20:34

I started reading these threads as a source of good advice

Sadly they’ve descended into a race to see who can spread the worst news first.

Completely agree with this.

Saucery · 08/03/2020 20:34

If you like, Mange. Smile I’ve found these threads extremely interesting and informative but unsubstantiated claims have really ramped up over the last 2 or 3, so I’m intrigued to see just how wild and unchallenged some of the info is.

www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m000ghsb/select-committees-live-coronavirus-committee

For anyone interested, this is a long watch but covers everything about the uk approach. Its the Chief Medical Officer and his deputy outlining the known facts, plans and reasoning for the Health and social care Select Committee on March the 5th. I found it very calming actually - there are some great minds working on the UK response and approach. And a lot of people’s questions on a range of topics are answered within it.

MarshaBradyo · 08/03/2020 20:35

Ok so if the thread is now not any good read other ones

NewYearNewTwatName · 08/03/2020 20:35

Bearbehind you don't have to understand it.

it's not working for you anymore, so be kind to yourself and don't read them, and don't get into slanging matches with randoms on the internet. That is certian way to up your nervous energy. Flowers

Jumpingintotheabyss · 08/03/2020 20:35

Dr MM

Could you extrapolate further, re Spanish flu book please. (so we don't have to read the whole book)

AllTheProsecco · 08/03/2020 20:35

Thanks @pussycatinboots, I can only see the article from Friday. Sorry, don't mean to pin point individual cases when there is so much going on all over the country. Just trying to get some more information to elderly relatives.

OldQueen1969 · 08/03/2020 20:35

Just had a sniff round other stories in the Guardian and there's an article about how big events like Glastonbury are likely to go ahead regardless.. It got me wondering if by then people will be deciding not to go to big events of their own accord anyway, and what the economic fallout might be. My "surrogate" son has type 1 diabetes and has decided not to go to two large events later in the year already, and he's 25 and a pretty laid back pragmatic type, but recognises he's in a higher risk group if he catches anything. It's all certainly food for thought.

Volunteers can earn £3,500 by taking part in #coronavirus vaccine trial.
They will be kept in a unit at Queen Mary BioEnterprises Innovation Centre in Whitechapel.

NotJustACigar · 08/03/2020 20:36

It feels so strange watching all the cheek kissing and handshaking taking place at crufts among people who look to be in their 60s and 70s. Are they living on the same planet as we are?

SnoozyLou · 08/03/2020 20:36

extraordinary how many people find the threads unhelpful/baffling and yet linger on them day after day.

I know - it amazes me. Every time our local online rag posts a story about it, they just get reams of abuse. Personally, if something doesn't interest me, I go and do something else.

Jumpingintotheabyss · 08/03/2020 20:36

Re spreading worse news, the news is getting worse Confused

Helena.... There you go an added in hand to face rub isn't going to help them with this virus.

NerrSnerr · 08/03/2020 20:37

It's a fine line between information and scaremongering. I think some people on these threads love the drama and are quite enjoying it all. Unfortunately, there'll be some lurkers who shouldn't be following the threads, but will be and will be massively anxious and it'll be hugely detrimental to their mental health.

It's useful to have the info in one place but I find myself checking what everyone says anyway as I don't trust anyone so there's no point. I'll just follow the various news outlets (which i do anyway). At least that way will be argument free.

Skyejuly · 08/03/2020 20:38

Hm that money is no enough really!

Fourducksate · 08/03/2020 20:38

DS’s school has 1,570 students. He’s hoping that if gatherings of over 1.000 are restricted, he won’t have to go.

I’m not sure closing schools is a good thing, part of me does, all those kids I one place not washing hands etc. but at least we know where they are and who they are mixing with.

Skyejuly · 08/03/2020 20:38

I like the varied posts here. I like to read them all and make my own choices. I think it's good to see all the views and articles. Please dont change it.

Skyejuly · 08/03/2020 20:39

My sons school is also 1700.

Coronavirus patient, 62, is ‘successfully treated’ with HIV drug in Spain in fresh hope for a cure

Youngatheart00 · 08/03/2020 20:40

@ofwarren the clinical trial was documented in the Sunday Times today. £3500 doesn’t sound like much for 2 weeks of your life (and who knows what consequences!) tho Strangely, I don’t doubt it’ll be oversubscribed.
