So at the moment it's hand sanitiser, handwash and toilet rolls. What's next ?

I struggled to get baby wipes and nappies on Morrison's online...

Shandied · 07/03/2020 20:45

I am quite surprised that locally it's reached the level it has! I always have a stock of loo roll in anyway, I usually just add an extra pack to every other shop- partly because we I have IBS and don't want to be without it, ever; also as my brother doesn't always have money for the basics so I like knowing I always have some in. I think the next thing will be something tinned, maybe beans. My friend hates beans but bought 4 tins because they'll be useful, erm not if you don't like them!

sonjadog · 07/03/2020 20:46

Presumably all the panic buyers will soon have done their panic buying, and then the supermarkets will stock up and the rest of us can just do our shopping as usual?

Shandied · 07/03/2020 20:46

Also baby milk. I noticed it wasn't as easy to get when Brexit reared its head (maybe coincidence), but I did stock up. Selfish I know, I wasn't fussed on stuff for me I'll have whatever, but nappies and formula were my priorities.

SoftSheen · 07/03/2020 20:47

Based on my shopping in the last couple of days, white bread flour (Asda) and red lentils (Waitrose).

OhMargo · 07/03/2020 20:55

Oh dear, the herd mentality has a lot to answer for.

Plenty of goods local to me, including bog roll yay!

But there is no sign of hand gel/sanitser ANYWHERE, surely orders would have been delivered by now?

And if they are, they should be rationed too. IMO.

No need to panic there is plenty of stuff around.

UpperLowercaseSymbolNumber · 07/03/2020 20:55

I’ve got an Ocado shop coming Monday. Obviously you can’t “see” the shelves in quite the same way but here are some of the things that are unavailable to be put on it:

Hand gel
Anti bac hand wash (hardly any normal)
Very little pasta left
Uht cows milk
Anti bac wipes
Anti bac spray
Very little kitchen towelling Left

Tootletum · 07/03/2020 20:59

Geez this thread is not helping with the shortages, is it. It's all demand driven, there is no supply shortage. Eventually there could be if enough people who drive lorries etc are off work. But even worst case there's be a 20% drop in workforce. Given the level of automation, that does not even result in 20% drop in supply. So this is all bollocks. Without the bullshit hoarding there will never be an issue.

datasgingercatspot · 07/03/2020 21:00

Fuel, I think.

Bestnewshoes · 07/03/2020 21:03

I don't see the point in toilet roll obsession. Flannels can be used and washed 🤮 who the feck even owns a flannel let alone to be used ...there..... 🥴

Youhedge · 07/03/2020 21:04

Condoms. When the lights go out, gotta have something to do

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 07/03/2020 21:04

Cat food and cat litter? Thankfully I've got about 3 months worth of food and 4 boxes of litter (all bought before Coronavirus as on special offer in case anyone thinks I'm stock piling!) but I'll be keeping any eye on stocks as he's so bloody fussy!

DobbyLovesSocks · 07/03/2020 21:05

We went to shopping today. Dry pasta and toilet roll aisle obliterated. As was medicines. Lots more staff with the online shopping trolleys in the store (if you know what I mean). I managed to grab the last jar of carbonara (DS has it every Tuesday and as he is SN it would have been a disaster if we had run out).

I had to go to another shop to buy what I was missing from my weekly shop (toilet roll and pasta). I wonder if I looked like I was panic buying but I honestly buy 4 toilet rolls a week and a bag of wholewheat pasta a week. It is just bizarre

I do wonder though if the pasta issue is a supply issue rather than a people panic buying it issue?

CoffeeRunner · 07/03/2020 21:08

I did my weekly shop today. I struggled to get (but did after visiting 3 shops);

Pasta
Cat food (both tinned & dried)
Cat litter
Toilet rolls
Diet Coke
Paracetamol
Ibuprofen

I couldn’t get anywhere;

UHT semi skimmed milk

I’m allergic to milk however, so I’ll cope Grin. DH is less impressed.

TheFormidableMrsC · 07/03/2020 21:09

I am very fortunate that I have a lovely Budgens on the naice new build estate I live on. They have everything in abundance, particularly loo roll. The only exception is hand gel. I shop in Aldi normally and will see what the state of that is on Monday when I do my weekly shop. The thing is, not everybody has finite space. I have an autistic child who will eat about five beige things (largely branded chicken dippers and garlic bread). I have got enough in to last maybe a couple of weeks (barring bread and milk). I am also on carer income so not in a position to bulk buy or do massive food shops. Whilst I am very concerned about the Walking Dead scenario we might well find ourselves in, my limited resources tell me I can't do much about it.

Aderyn19 · 07/03/2020 21:10

I think lots of raw materials come from China, which is why sanitary towels etc might be in short supply.

ItIsWhatItIsInnit · 07/03/2020 21:10

I can’t imagine needing to poo at inconvenient times, only at home.

You've lived a sheltered life! I shit at work all the time, what can be better than being paid to shit?

ninja · 07/03/2020 21:24

This morning there was lots of toilet paper but almost no pasta, own brand nitrogen was also out.

Keepitup · 07/03/2020 21:41

Nitrogen?

nocoolnamesleft · 07/03/2020 21:41

Okay, I give up. What's nitrogen a typo/autocorrect for?

Branster · 07/03/2020 21:42

So nitrogen shortage on the horizon?! Grin

Branster · 07/03/2020 21:43

I hope ninja comes back ....
