So at the moment it's hand sanitiser, handwash and toilet rolls. What's next ?

@SnoozyLou thanks for that. I'll have a look.

Beldon · 07/03/2020 21:49

At shops yesterday and noticed lots of empty spaces of products people have mentioned, weirdly also ice lollies

LightAsTheBreeze · 07/03/2020 21:50

DH said yesterday that ice lollies were for sore throat

RhubarbTea · 07/03/2020 21:53

Own brand nitrogen made me laugh Grin

In all seriousness I think it will be:

Paracetamol / Calpol
Ibuprofen
Latex gloves

You already can't find surgical spirit for normal prices, everyone is sold out of mad expensive. I so wish I bought some in my local Boots when they still had it a few days ago. I need something to sterilize the digital thermometer if either DS or I get it and the other doesn't (yet) have it.

Actually having said that, thermometers. On Amazon a week ago you could buy many types of digi ones. Now most are sold out or only available via third party sellers at inflated prices.

babycorn · 07/03/2020 21:55

Had a delivery (Tesco) this eve at around 5.30... no pasta!!! Not even a sub. Great timing as the toddler has decided that the only carb she will eat is 'twirly' pasta... sigh..

BarbaraofSeville · 07/03/2020 21:57

Latex gloves and surgical spirit

Do you live somewhere where there's high demand for under the radar gunshot wound surgery?

Lol at own brand nitrogen. We only ever buy the BOC product, but times are hard, so we might need to scale back a brand.

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 07/03/2020 21:58

Nitrogen = nurofen?

babycorn · 07/03/2020 21:58

Also, why do so many people want pasta?! As opposed to rice or whatever?
Also, when I made the mistake of actually visiting Tesco earlier, I noted they were all out of cat litter... perhaps people are mixing the two together??? Has cat litter got some sort of nutritional value?

BarbaraofSeville · 07/03/2020 22:00

I can’t imagine needing to poo at inconvenient times, only at home

I can't imagine having such a predictable bowel that I only need to shit during the minority of time I'm at home.

You've lived a sheltered life! I shit at work all the time, what can be better than being paid to shit

Using work's toilet paper so your panic bought stash lasts longer.

BarbaraofSeville · 07/03/2020 22:03

Nitrogen = nurofen

Disappointed now.

Re the cat litter. People also use it as a gritting substitute so it often is in short supply in winter. If you have an indoor cat, sufficient cat litter is essential so people don't want to run out.

bellinisurge · 07/03/2020 22:03

What part of "you can't go out if you are in self isolation " are you not getting?
I'm not panicking, I sorted this stuff out ages ago because I'm a general prepper .
What part of "delivery drivers might be thin on the ground for ready home delivery " are you not getting, either?

VivaLeBeaver · 07/03/2020 22:04

Our Tesco petrol station is closed 'due to unforseen circumstances".

I know someone who works in a tesco petrol station who has had to self isolate....wonder if they’ve now tested positive in which case they will have exposed all colleagues who will now have to self isolate and then nobody left to man the petrol station. Think you need to have had special training, so can’t just pull someone off checkouts.

VivaLeBeaver · 07/03/2020 22:07

You've lived a sheltered life! I shit at work all the time, what can be better than being paid to shit?

I used to have a job where I’d skive off to shag one of my colleagues so I guess technically I was being paid to have sex! 👍

DressingGownofDoom · 07/03/2020 22:08

There was no semi skimmed milk in my Asda today, bizarrely. Hardly any rice left either. Nappies and babywipe shelves looked empty.

LooseleafTea · 07/03/2020 22:08

I wish it was stuff in gardening shops like seed potatoes as that would feel positive somehow, even if it’s a longer term goal but to return to a bit more ‘local’ food. And good for mental health when so many are anxious.

I have bought 2 redcurrant plants for £2 at Tesco and two blueberry bushes same price - they’ll be no help feeding us for some time so I know not much help! But I am trying to do something positive while avoiding panic buying and I do wish we’d all go back to how our grandparents managed more and grow a bit more stuff at home too where can. I might try gro-Bags and all you need to start your own tomato plants are the seeds from a slice of any tomato imo .
Gardening is very calming and good anyway for those who have a bit of space or access to an allotment.

I’ve also got a few tins (like 4!) of tinned fruit and we have quite a good larder anyway being fairly rural and far from shops .

Mass hysteria is a fascinating thing to witness at first hand, isn’t it?

To the best of our knowledge, Covid-19 is a highly infectious, but not particularly serious illness. Ebola it is not. Mortality rates are low, and the risk to otherwise healthy Individuals is very low indeed, yet fed by relentless ill-informed media scaremongering millions of people are behaving as if it’s bubonic plague.

What on earth would these people do in a real crisis?

Bluntness100 · 07/03/2020 22:11

I don’t understand why people are panic buying loo roll? Does anyone know? It’s not like the virus gives you the shits. It doesn’t make much sense. Even if you had to be quarantined for a month folks would not get through the avalanche of loo rolls they are buying. It’s really friggen odd.

MadamePewter · 07/03/2020 22:12

@AgeLikeWine it is fascinating.

I’m upset as it’s scared my dcs needlessly. And blows my theory of most people are good out of the water.

Gibble1 · 07/03/2020 22:14

I had to go to 3 shops today to buy toilet paper. I had to get it because we have only got half a roll left and we’re 3 people in the house.
I didn’t buy loads of extra food though- I’m hoping that if we do get stuck indoors then someone will open and eat the bran flakes that have been in the cupboard forever.

Youngatheart00 · 07/03/2020 22:15

For those saying painkillers unavailable, I tried to buy 2 packets of generic paracetamol and 1 ibuprofen today as part of a weekly shop. Was turned down at the counter - only 2 . Annoyingly I’d already packed away the paracetamol so had to leave the ibuprofen. Unsure if that’s stockpiling rules or permanent rules re selling painkillers to a customer?

Sanpro was very low on stock, no hand held, liquid soaps lots of lines depleted. Bog roll only the pricey branded quilted packs of 9 left. Minor victory in getting the last jar of cheesy tuna pasta bake sauce (comfort food) Grin

Bluntness100 · 07/03/2020 22:18

That’s rules on the amount of parecetemol you can buy in one place, due to risk of suicide.

Youngatheart00 · 07/03/2020 22:26

I see, strange tho as it was the ibuprofen I then couldn’t buy!

gamerwidow · 07/03/2020 22:26

I think normal rules are only two packs of painkillers. I thought that was just for paracetamol though so maybe the cashier was confused.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 07/03/2020 22:27

There was no Asdas own loo roll and pasta when i did ab online shop earlier

I did a bit of prepping incase of no deal brexit but ive used all the toilet roll, long life milk and pasta already.

I have plenty of soap though. Cat litter has been in short supply for a few months

DressingGownofDoom · 07/03/2020 22:27

I noticed the Cornflakes too! Can't figure out that one. If you can't get out for fresh milk you won't be eaten 2 family size boxes of cornflakes.
