So at the moment it's hand sanitiser, handwash and toilet rolls. What's next ?

Tonight not much toilet roll, handwash or sanitary towels in Sainsbury's. Husband was more worried about the lack of beer though.

TypingError · 07/03/2020 20:11

I can’t imagine needing to poo at inconvenient times, only at home

I envy you.

Eeyoresstickhouse · 07/03/2020 20:12

No pasta around here for love nor money. Did get toilet rolls though (as I needed them). I got the last 2 packs of paracetamol.

I am doing my normal weekly shop tomorrow at sainsburys so will see what they have. My toddler will be most upset with no pasta. It's her fave food.

belay · 07/03/2020 20:12

Alcohol - as the parents will be driven to drink if the school's close

I asked our Sainsburys delivery guy if he'd seen much panic buying. He reckoned not - just hand sanitiser. He said that they were busier online compared to in store, with a few customers moaning that they'd not be able to get their usual slots.

RHTawneyonabus · 07/03/2020 20:13

I’m worried about nappies, thankfully 2 for 1 in tescos today. There was no pasta, ibuprofen or hand sanitizer to be had. I’m wondering if I should start freezing a few small cartons of milk. So I can still have a normal cup of tea can cope with canned chick peas for breakfast if necessary but I need my tea! . Can’t imagine milk will run low though

nocoolnamesleft · 07/03/2020 20:16

Hand cream. Hand hygiene is less effective if your skin quality is impaired, and if everyone is suddenly washing their hands a lot more, and using alcogels, their hands are going to get dried out.

eeeyoresmiles · 07/03/2020 20:19

Hellman’s squidgy low fat mayonnaise was also unavailable.

Probably a WHO intervention for the good of the population. It's disgusting! (or the very very low fat one is, anyway)

An awful lot of things will be back in stock soon and there will be more stock after that.

Things dependent on container ships from China that didn't leave China a month ago when they should have done might be becoming a problem, but I'm not sure how many of those things would be supermarket items.

CatherineOfAragonsPomegranate · 07/03/2020 20:21

I couldn't get an Amazon slot until Sunday evening, which considering I looked on Friday morning was very unusual. Didn't bother in the end. Online grocery shopping has increased.

stayathomegardener · 07/03/2020 20:22

I've had a 1,800L fuel bowser on EBay for 12 months with only three watchers.

Sold yesterday.

Have been thinking of potential dog food shortages and decided big dog will do very well on rice and rabbits and small dog will have to slum it on rice and mice.

Doggodogington · 07/03/2020 20:23

Where is this actually happening? My Lidl was fully stocked yesterday.

SweetpeaOrMarigold · 07/03/2020 20:24

Fuel prices are likely to go up next week with the budget anyway, so that could be the fuel part. Will admit haven't RDFT if anyone has already said that.

Cattenberg · 07/03/2020 20:25

There’s plenty of antibacterial hand wash in my local Sainsbury’s (although I doubt it works on viruses), but no hand gel. Today was the first time I’ve seen someone wearing a face mask.

I wonder if strong spirits e.g. gin and vodka will be in demand next? Also, cleaning products, tissues and medicines.

I have a 35 year old daughter with SEN and physical disabilities. We need pads (nappies) for her and I've just been advised that there may be a hold up in supply. Fortunately I've got about 2 week's worth of pads while they sort it out.

How on earth the coronavirus scare is affecting the supply of incontinence pads I cannot fathom. I hope it's just a local glitch.

MinkowskisButterfly · 07/03/2020 20:28

I'm another who thinks fuel, I had to put some petrol in (wasn't panic buying, was running on fumes!) and the queues at the pumps were ridiculous, went at 9.30 after school run but it was crazy so went back later on about lunch time and the queues were the same - this particular petrol station is normally fairly quiet.

Apparently some of the factories that make fibre for sanpro have been diverted to make fibre for masks, for a few weeks now - it might be that. Also in China nurses and medics have been using them to avoid stripping out of their protective gear to go to the loo, although it's probably a bit early for that to affect here unless it's people buying them in advance.

PineappleDanish · 07/03/2020 20:37

There won't be shortages of anything if people calm the fuck down and stop hoarding and stockpiling.

CatherineOfAragonsPomegranate · 07/03/2020 20:38

I think people are choosing to go out less and are buying in bulk so they don't have to shop.

jasjas1973 · 07/03/2020 20:39

Wholesale price of oil is continuing to drop so if fuel duty increases, petrol should still drop, though whether it will be passed on to consumers is another matter.... don't remember BJ promising to increase fuel duty at the GE, we need more money in our pockets to avoid an even deeper recession.

i think if panic buying continues as it is, there will be rationing within a week or so.

MsMeNz · 07/03/2020 20:40

I'd say in a month or so phones and things will get more expensive or run out due to the rare metals needed stocks running out and China not producing same with medicines the core ingredients in the production pipeline are very low. So maybe not be right now but in a few months it's predicted it will become a major "problem" in the electronics so if your old phone is on its last leg I wouldn't wait a few months if possible.

Wine? Nooooo!Wine

devonport12 · 07/03/2020 20:40

Just finished putting the last brick on the underground bunker in the garden #shattered now gotta go shopping huh!!

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 07/03/2020 20:42

On our local Facebook page someone has posted a picture of the shelves of our local supermarket with the “toilet roll” sign hanging above empty shelves with just a single two pack of loo roll.

Problem is it looks nothing like our local shop... which was fully stocked when I went in for some bread this morning! Just scaremongering!

Lemonsandsugar · 07/03/2020 20:42

I’ve just seen an actual fight on social media between three women over one of the women taking ALL of the toilet rolls. Her trolley was piled high with them... the police were being called.

I’m just sat here agog watching it play out. I just said to dh - ‘should we do a big shop tomorrow’ 😬

Lovemusic33 · 07/03/2020 20:42

In my house (house of females) the worst thing to run out of would be sanitary towels 🤣, I always keep a good stock.
