So at the moment it's hand sanitiser, handwash and toilet rolls. What's next ?

Daffodils?

EnidBlyton · 09/03/2020 08:29

Well we have also had the flooding,
plus we may have a problem with delivery drivers.
No it is Anyone's guess what could run out.
I did hear a whisper about one particularly food but i dont want to either jinx it or cause a stampede

Doodledoom · 09/03/2020 08:36

All the shops by me have put restrictions in place on all items in store now you can only buy so many of an item. I'm assuming all shops will do this over the next few weeks.

bellinisurge · 09/03/2020 08:43

Us preppers don't really look at spam (up to you if you like it) but peanut butter is a very prepper thing. Yummy with chocolate. Yummy on toast. Protein in it. We always have loads in. But then I really like it so win win.

bellinisurge · 09/03/2020 08:44

Oh, and shelf stable. Another reason why actual preppers like it.

WhatHaveIFound · 09/03/2020 08:55

Popped into my local Morrisons this morning for fruit & fresh bread and managed to pick up hand gel. Was really surprised to find it after all the stories of stockpiling. It was restricted to 2 per customer and i bought it for the DC who are on public transport every day. I work from home so just using soap as normal.

Checked my Superannuation today and down $A5,000 from 2 days ago panic buying response to mad hoarding. In the Supermarket today in Melbourne pasta, rice, toilet paper, tissues and flushable wipes have been empty for a week, as sold out in 5 minutes.

Toilet rolls were rationed to 4 packs a couple of days ago, and 1 pack today in Coles and 2 in Woolworths. I've 6 rolls left from when I bought a 12 pack a fortnight ago. When they are gone I'm pretending im in Greece again using the "poo bucket". Wink

People go on about the Australian Spirit, but I think we are quite selfish in general. Don't get me wrong, we can band together and can be generous with our time and money, but we are loss adverse to a degree that is quite crippling. Knife fights and punch ups over toilet paper. It's quite humbling really to see what we can sink down too. We don't even have the excuse of being in lockdown like Wuhan or Lombardy.

I'm still going to fill my car up tomorrow, and buy extra cat food, because I can eat whatever, but the cats have to be grain-free. So im just as bad really because now I'm thinking what will be in short supply in the next few months.

My Grand Mother went through 2 WW, Spanish Flu, Depression, and i can't help feel she would have been better prepared, and stronger in spirit than I'm feeling about the next few months in this modern era with all its advantages. I wish I had of been more proactive.

PotholeParadise · 09/03/2020 10:19

Just been shopping. The new shortage item is...

frozen pizza. I didn't predict that, but I suppose I can see the line of thought. Easy to prepare when ill, isn't it?

Ohffs66 · 09/03/2020 11:15

@potholeparadise I feel like I'm ahead of the curve, I bought 2 frozen pizzas last week!

Lordfrontpaw · 09/03/2020 11:17

I heard a ratio piece this morning about football matches potentially being postponed, not broadcast or played without a crowd - the phrase ‘pubic morale’ was actually used. Talk about flippin melodrama!

PotholeParadise · 09/03/2020 11:19

Suppose it did affect pubic morale? What would happen to shows like Naked Attraction?

Fedupandpoor · 09/03/2020 11:22

I went to 3 supermarkets yesterday looking for cucumbers. Not a single one in sight. God knows what they are buying those up for 🤷‍♀️

Lordfrontpaw · 09/03/2020 11:27

Where are people keeping all those loo rolls. That’s what I want to know. We live in central London - we don’t have garden sheds and garages to store 1000 loo rolls and a million tons of beans!

BiddyPop · 09/03/2020 11:36

It was cleaning products (sprays, wipes, etc) that were in short supply in Lidl yesterday - plenty of actual bleach and everything else. Although I didn't see hand sanitiser anywhere (I was looking for a small bottle as DH has a lot of public consultations coming up - so he wanted one for his pocket).

I need to restock red wine, teabags, and ground coffee. If we're going to be stuck at home for days. Almost everything else I can manage.

Mumtoanimals · 09/03/2020 11:36

I gave birth 7 days ago and have run out of maternity pads (i have bled more than expected- 3rd degree tear) and i couldnt find anything down the baby isle in Tescos. Got to go town today and search everywhere for some 🙈

PotholeParadise · 09/03/2020 12:04

LordFrontpaw

The waaaalls are lined with the sight of these!

what will be the next thing to sell out ?
BouleBaker · 09/03/2020 12:08

Missing in Waitrose today was.... Bread Flour.

Lots of loo roll and a fair amount of hand soap.

Delicatelyscentedflavour · 09/03/2020 12:11

I would say sanity but that went first

wowfudge · 09/03/2020 12:12

I asked on a thread why were people stockpiling loo roll and no one responded. Apparently in times of strife, people find comfort in buying loo roll. Who knew?

ChillinInMyBacta · 09/03/2020 12:20

Definite scarcity of Feminine Hygiene Products on the shelves. I've never been so grateful to have transitioned through Menopause. Grin

Jade1976 · 09/03/2020 12:35

@wowfudge I read somewhere that it is because it is relatively big, so the gap on the shelf appears bigger than say running out of jam. Interesting about comfort.

bellinisurge · 09/03/2020 12:37

@wowfudge , no. People are stockpiling loo roll because no one wants to be forced into self isolation without enough bog roll. Isn't it obvious?

CorianderLord · 09/03/2020 12:45

My shop has run out of most pasta ... except the expensive Neapoltana stuff 😂 so they're panicking but they're not stupid they say

BouleBaker · 09/03/2020 12:49

Waitrose was very low on pasta, except for the expensive stuff too. However, the expensive stuff was on half price offer but people were still bulk buying the Waitrose own.

wowfudge · 09/03/2020 12:53

@bellinisurge - you're entitled to your opinion, but there's no need to be rude. There's no way all those people who have stocked up on loo roll are at risk of having to self-isolate.
