So at the moment it's hand sanitiser, handwash and toilet rolls. What's next ?

@Largeyellowdaffodil yes I noticed Coke was sold out in Asda yesterday. Loads of Diet Coke though! Maybe people are buying mixers for their vodka, rum etc

VerbenaGirl · 08/03/2020 18:24

Oddly our Sainsbury’s was out of chilled ready made pastry yesterday, in every variation! Pasta and bottled water was lowish, loo rolls low and own brand painkillers out (but expensive branded ones still available).

Jenasaurus · 08/03/2020 18:28

I have had to order loo rolls on amazon as both Tesco, Sainsburys and asda are out of them, I also don't drive so get my food delivered and am fed up of them arriving with the delivery and saying, sorry these items are missing, im down to my last roll now!

mummytraveller · 08/03/2020 18:39

calpol sold out yesterday, had to travel much further to find any

Nimmykins · 08/03/2020 19:39

One of the things that amused me was the microwave rice was fully stocked but the dried was gone.

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 08/03/2020 19:46

Why are people so crazy about pasta? I think it is disgusting - cannot eat it because of the consistency. Much prefer rice or potatoes.

bellinisurge · 08/03/2020 19:47

Easy meal @MilkTrayLimeBarrel .
If you don't like it, get something else.

bellinisurge · 08/03/2020 19:48

@Nimmykins , dried is cheaper.

Rhayader · 08/03/2020 20:07

I wonder if ready meals will sell out as people look for an alternative to takeaways (where you don’t know if they have coughed on it or the delivery driver has washed their hands).

LoveBeingAMum555 · 08/03/2020 20:13

Can't answer the question but in rural Yorkshire our small local Asda was a bit low on some types of pasta, yeast and flour yesterday, but that was all. Didn't look for hand sanitiser but there was a huge stack of loo rolls by the till. As for soap, my son has a drawer full of lynx shower gels from gift sets that we will use if we need to!

I have bought a few extra things mainly because we are 25 miles from the nearest large supermarket and I don't want to rely on online shopping if local shops run low.

I am intrigued as to where the average family is storing all this stuff, we have quite a small house and no garage so space is limited.

Opal71 · 08/03/2020 20:16

yesterday our sainsburys was out of teabags and pot noodles

Daily Mails

Mumgonenuts2020 · 08/03/2020 20:26

Never anything in Aldi 💙

headlock · 08/03/2020 21:30

Wonder if there actually will be a widespread isolation. Going to organise every single drawer, cupboard, centimeter of my house if there is.

Emmasonej3791 · 08/03/2020 21:34

In my Sainsbury’s all the cranberry sauce had gone !?!?

MadamePewter · 08/03/2020 21:39

@headlock I really hope not, I can’t cope being stuck in house and will also not get paid if can’t go to work

Sofacat · 08/03/2020 21:40

The cat food shelf was pretty empty in Sainsbury’s today . One shopper I saw had a trolley full to the brim with bottles of bleach.

Stressheadme123 · 08/03/2020 21:44

What is the likelihood of supermarkets running bare on food?
Do I NEED a stockpile in?
Got kids but skint and would be stretching it to do so.
But watching the shelves get barer is worrying
If 80% of the population may get this, are we getting locked in and no access to food if this gets bad? Chances? How do they expect people to eat?

Or is this all going to blow over and I ignore.

Stressheadme123 · 08/03/2020 21:45

(Newly confirmed case in my town and people seem to be freaking out)

Heaney31 · 08/03/2020 21:45

TrappedInThatBrightMoment · 08/03/2020 21:54

Seen this morning, a wall full of toilet rolls

what will be the next thing to sell out ?
Butterwhy · 08/03/2020 21:56

@Stressheadme123 if you can afford a few bits it might be worth it just for peace of mind. I think there will be food available, it just might not be the stuff you usually eat. Depending where you shop I find the basics stuff often tastes just as good, there likely will be plans on how to feed people if it really hits the fan (likely and hopefully it won't come to that..), but a few things you'll end up eating anyway won't hurt.

Elieza · 08/03/2020 22:05

My local Aldi has two empty cardboard boxes where shampoo should be!

Why would you stockpile that, you use so little if it at a time!

They were low on paracetamol and I get that, but shampoo?!

Madness has kicked in.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 08/03/2020 22:09

I'm just picking up a few extra bits (one extra pack of pasta/a couple of tins/packs of microwave rice etc) to keep to one side just in case, but not buying in bulk of anything.

It's all stuff that will then go into our pantry if and when it's needed rather than going to waste.

I just need one or two packs of UHT milk, but I'm happy with latte coffee sachets etc and don't really eat cereal.

Bioprepper · 08/03/2020 22:10

I live with someone with severe lung and breathing problems so I’m grateful for the preppers as they won’t be shopping when Ill and spreading their germs.

Fully stocked in toilet roll in our tesco but no dried spaghetti, hand sanitiser, hand soap or full sugar coke. I also grabbed the last two bottles of bleach.
