So at the moment it's hand sanitiser, handwash and toilet rolls. What's next ?

No liquid soap in Morrison's but I only buy bar soap because I'm cutting down on plastic so victory is mine!!!

AHippoNamedBooBooButt · 07/03/2020 22:28

Our tesco was empty of most of the above but also sunflower oil. Every bottle gone. Very strange. Who stockpiles oil?

Bestnewshoes · 07/03/2020 22:29

Two packs of painkillers is the rule either or paracetamol or ibuprofen

Youngatheart00 · 07/03/2020 22:31

Thanks for the clarification - now I know!

BarbaraofSeville · 07/03/2020 22:31

if you can't get out for fresh milk you won't be eaten 2 family size boxes of cornflakes

Maybe they were planning to make a lot of cornflake crispy buns?

Emmacb82 · 07/03/2020 22:31

The medicine aisle in Asda today looked like it had been ransacked by animals! All I wanted was one bottle of kids own brand paracetamol as ours is running out and could I get it? No!!
Feel so sorry for those that are elderly or unable to get out to the shops often. You really see the selfish side of a lot of people when these things happen. I’m all for being prepared, but the stories of people bulk buying is crazy. There would be no shortages if people just acted sensibly. Rant over.

NormaLouiseBates · 07/03/2020 22:33

I've only recently discovered the nice purple Dettol which smells really lovely. Can't find the bloody stuff anywhere now!

I work in haulage supplying HGV drivers to many of the large supermarkets and it's been crazy busy this week. All our customers are begging for more drivers; we just can't keep up with the demand.

ByeMF · 07/03/2020 22:36

Where on earth does everyone else live? Stacks of paracetamol and loo roll in Morrisons this afternoon.

gamerwidow · 07/03/2020 22:45

SE London. I went to Morrison's to buy a loaf of bread on Friday and was queuing for half an hour, no hand soap, no loo roll it was ridiculous. Not been out since. hope it''s got better.

PhoenixIsFlying · 07/03/2020 22:50

I despair at the selfishness of panic buying. Elderly neighbour (with a heart condition) comes to me yesterday and tells me the only place she could get toilet roll was in the pound shop. She had been to all the supermarkets in the high street. These selfish hysterical panic buyers don’t think of the elderly who don’t have cars to go from one supermarket to another or those who can’t afford to buy in bulk. I have severe asthma but am not becoming hysterical. Honestly the selfishness makes me cross and I’m not a cross person.

Howmanysleepsnow · 07/03/2020 23:19

Hmm... you say you only need enough toilet roll for a month. In my house that’s 31 rolls. I bought that in case. I also bought enough for 2 weeks, as normal (we were on our last roll). No point starting on the months supply when not quarantined. So 45 rolls. Yes I stock piled, but not because I’m panicking it may run out, just to make sure we have what we need if we can’t leave the house. To me, that’s less selfish than not being organised and going out if possibly infected and risking spreading the virus.

Stressheadme123 · 08/03/2020 00:15

My local supermarkets had no loo roll, kitchen roll, hand sanitizers, hand wash, soap, pasta.
And were low on soups and tins.

I read something online about the psychology behind toilet roll stockpiling. Apparently because it is a large item, it has larger sections in supermarkets, so when it’s missing, it looks like “lots” of stuff is gone. So people panic and it goes from there.
If it was, say, jam, that people were over buying. Your eyes wouldn’t be “drawn” to a huge gap, just a regular looking small one. So people don’t freak out.

Or something. But seriously, IBS , one loo roll left. And nowhere around me has any left.
Ridiculous to think that Susan ,Brenda and Mary down the road have a room full each

PickAChew · 08/03/2020 00:16

Breadmaker and part baked loaves.

sagethyme · 08/03/2020 00:27

As Gandhi once said "There is enough for everyone's need; but not enough for everyone's greed" wise chap. I now understand rationing because if people can't behave and think of others the government has to step in.

Lucindainthesky · 08/03/2020 00:38

Fuel and tonic water.

Serin · 08/03/2020 00:39

I'm proud of my little town. No one seems to be panic buying anything (except possibly world book day outfits earlier in the week) .

Gingerkittykat · 08/03/2020 00:49

Vitamins, I take vit D and high strength vit c everyday and the normal Tesco ones I buy were sold out and had to buy the last expensive branded one.

I don't think people are stockpiling it, rather filling up when they might have put £20 in or refilling to full at 3/4 of a tank rather than waiting till near empty.

bluetongue · 08/03/2020 03:38

Weirdly fuel prices have plummeted here in Australia.

I was only really worried about the toilet paper panic buying as I was down to my last 3 rolls. I’ve Magee to get two 8 packs this morning so should be okay for a while.

moominmomma1234 · 08/03/2020 03:58

fuel prices have dropped because chinas factories are not guzzling the worlds oil at the moment. so maybe some people are filling up while its cheap.

BritWifeinUSA · 08/03/2020 04:07

Went to Walmart today and it a single bottle of Veet to be seen. Empty shelf. At least everyone in this state will have nice smooth legs and underarms. Except me!

Downunderduchess · 08/03/2020 05:18

In Sydney, rice, sanitary pads, liquid soap, tissues have all been the items people (nutters) have been going crazy stockpiling after toilet paper obvs.

ByeByeMissAmericanPie · 08/03/2020 05:57

I had to order some heating oil last week, and the price has dropped considerably. I was paying 53p a litre just before Christmas and it’s now down to around 37p.
Have yet to see that kind of drop in petrol prices!

Lovelydovey · 08/03/2020 06:34

Flour, eggs and tinned tomatoes were looking low in my supermarket yesterday.

SpeckledyHen · 08/03/2020 06:44

I hope kefir doesn’t run out .

cece · 08/03/2020 06:58

I noticed several people in Tesco yesterday who had a trolley full of vegetable oil? What's going on there?
