Aibu to think this is wrong and opportunistic. Obviously its because of coronavirus. This is so annoying ad I use it regularly as im immunocompromised.

Its supposed to be 1/3 cup aloe gel and 2/3 cup vodka/surgical spirit. This recipe would be 66% alcohol while still being a gel

Isn't vodka only 40% abv ?

MrsTerryPratchett · 06/03/2020 14:54

Oh and surgical spirit varies in strength.

MrsTerryPratchett · 06/03/2020 14:55

Just wash your hands. Soap and water.

Wash them like you've just chopped chillies and you need a wee.

MrOnionsBumperRoller · 06/03/2020 14:56

Bloody hell! I was appalled to discover today that my Post Office (New Mills, Derbyshire ) is selling tiny tubes of hand sanitizer for £6 and £8 but £15 really takes the piss.

Eve · 06/03/2020 14:57

possibly not their fault , they might be having to pass on the costs the wholesalers are asking.

I have family in this area in wholesale, they have asked for a slight increase but some of their competitors are asking outrageous prices.

antisupermum · 06/03/2020 14:57

@Ilovecupcakke Why would you NOT report them? This is exactly the kind of situation that should be getting reported Confused

PeterPanGoesWrong · 06/03/2020 15:06

Vote with your feet.
Make sure you let everyone know this pharmacy is oportunistic. Post on your Facebook “spotted in ‘home town’ “: page.

PeterPanGoesWrong · 06/03/2020 15:09

Not sure who or what you’d report an independent pharmacy to! They can charge whatever they want! Just boycott and let them know why.

CallMeRachel · 06/03/2020 15:13

Have you considered that their suppliers may have hiked their prices up, so in turn they have to charge more?

Also, the price could be a front to stop people coming in and buying the lot for £2 each and selling them on for £££

If you'd taken one to the counter to check the price they may have sold you it as normal £2

Ultimately though, they have the product if people want to buy it for that price they can either take it or leave it.

grumpymacgrumpface · 06/03/2020 15:13

@Mammyofasuperbaby that would only work if vodka was 100% pure alcohol. Unfortunately (or fortunately for those who drink it) it's only about 40%.

grumpymacgrumpface · 06/03/2020 15:14

Sorry - just discovered there's a second page to this thread and other people have made the point I made.

Lordfrontpaw · 06/03/2020 15:15

I made my own. I had to use more gel than the recipe further up as it was just liquid (maybe my gel wasn’t jelly enough). Either way, it stinks to high heaven and will kill anything within ten paces.

Amazon - rubbing alcohol at 99% and some aloe Vera.

GrumpyHoonMain · 06/03/2020 15:17

Buy some rubbing alcohol. It is as effective

BeyondMyWits · 06/03/2020 15:17

I work in a pharmacy - we were only able to get in the teeny gels for belt clips - because they had Disney on they were selling for £4 -
£4 for 30ml. That means we were charged £2.22 each wholesale. Last week they were £1 each wholesale - so over double.

We could either buy them at that price or not stock them at all. And since we are not a charity, we put the same mark up as everything else in the shop - so as to pay the bills - with increased staff hours and costs due to the air of panic everywhere.

Lordfrontpaw · 06/03/2020 15:19

What hacks me off is people who really need to keep it all squeaky clean because of say and illness or maybe they are having chemo. I think it should be given our free to them.

WhateverHappenedToBathPearls · 06/03/2020 15:20

Wash them like you've just chopped chillies and you need a wee

Grin amazing advice!

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 06/03/2020 15:22

It’s not the organisers fault that someone reported you for stealing tho? Hmm

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 06/03/2020 15:23

Sorry wrong thread

Ellisandra · 06/03/2020 15:26

Made sense to me @Haud as I’ve just come from that thread 🤣

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 06/03/2020 15:27

I read that Trading Standards is cracking down on this- although I think they were referring to online I assume the same would apply here. All getting very Hunger Games

hartof · 06/03/2020 15:29

I ordered some one Boots yesterday morning and they've been delivered today so check on there.

lyralalala · 06/03/2020 15:32

The chemist here is selling for similar, but has a print out of their invoice up on the wall showing that they're not making anymore profit than normal (I actually think they're unlikely to be making anything).

Their supplier has hiked the price and they've stocked it on a "this is how much it's jumped, but it's all we could get in" basis.

WhatTheActualFeck · 06/03/2020 15:34

Same in our local.

They have no antibac gel but the little individual wipes in a single packet they are selling 2 for £1

50p each. I'm sure they used to be 20 for £1

HerRoyalNotness · 06/03/2020 15:34

I thought I’d make my own, but the chemists here have sold out of isopropyl alcohol too! Plenty of witch hazel left.
