Aibu to think this is wrong and opportunistic. Obviously its because of coronavirus. This is so annoying ad I use it regularly as im immunocompromised.

OP posts:

Irresponsible not to report them. You must.

WhatTheActualFeck · 06/03/2020 15:36

Also some bloke who owns a corner shop put a ad on local FB pages saying he has 50ml bottles in. £10 each

Did not go down well. Bloke got lynched.

Pretty sure he's gonna lose a lot of custom due to it.

Public Health England advises soap and water.

BBC report hand gel dispensers being stolen from hospital wards and beds.

MrsLCohen · 06/03/2020 15:44

No point in moaning about it on here, just report them.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 06/03/2020 15:46

Definitely report them!

PeterPanGoesWrong · 06/03/2020 15:47

@Derbee just who should they be reported too?

Billben · 06/03/2020 15:47

Irresponsible not to report them. You must.

Have you missed the bit where it may not even be the pharmacy’s fault but their supplier’s?

ShanghaiDiva · 06/03/2020 15:49

When the outbreak started in China there was a hotline number we could phone to report profiteering.
Report to trading standards?

MrsLCohen · 06/03/2020 15:50

With this sort of stuff you usually have to go through citizens advice and I think they must deal with it

poppyonastring · 06/03/2020 15:52

YANBU. Disgusting grabby behaviour. I hope they shit lego.

hankyspanky · 06/03/2020 15:53

@Ilovecupcakke I managed to pick up a few extra bottles in Asda yesterday. I'm happy to send you one if you'd give something to your local food bank in return. PM me your address if you want it.

user1497207191 · 06/03/2020 15:58

I managed to pick up a few extra bottles in Asda yesterday.

If you're happy to give one away, why the hell did you buy too many in the first place when there'd be other customers who really need it?

HaddawayAndShite · 06/03/2020 16:02

Our local pharmacy too. I’ve not been trying to buy any but saw the handmade scrawled signs as I went past on the bus. If their suppliers have charged more they should do as a PPs pharmacy have done up thread and provide the invoice to back up the hike. Otherwise I’ll be report them. If they are legit they won’t have any problems will they.

GCAcademic · 06/03/2020 16:09

To all those saying “report it”. To whom? Trading standards will do nothing. Ironically, the law in this country is more concerned with underpricing, because it is deemed anti-competitive practice. Welcome to the U.K. where the free market is god. This isn’t France where the government imposes maximum prices on essential products.

carlyclock · 06/03/2020 16:10

Its supposed to be 1/3 cup aloe gel and 2/3 cup vodka/surgical spirit. This recipe would be 66% alcohol while still being a gel

No. It would be 66% VODKA. Vodka is not pure alcohol.

MintyMabel · 06/03/2020 16:11

Have you missed the bit where it may not even be the pharmacy’s fault but their supplier’s?

In which case they can prove it and there won’t be an issue.

WorraLiberty · 06/03/2020 16:12

Well its a pharmacy in South London near to a confirmed case, I dont think I will report them but I wont be using in future!

Email your local newspaper. That's exactly the sort of thing my local paper would run a story on.

Walkingthedog46 · 06/03/2020 16:12

Make sure you boycott the place in future

Abraid2 · 06/03/2020 16:12

MrsTerryPratchett

A bit dismissive! It's perfectly fine to make your own. Surgical spirit is 90% ethanol. So if you fill a bottle just over two-thirds full with it, and top it up with aloe vera and a bit of lavender or teatree, you are easily at the 60% alcohol level.

peoplepleaser1 · 06/03/2020 16:14

Bear in mind that the pharmacy may have paid over inflated prices themselves for their stock of sanitiser. They may have had to source from somewhere different to normal.

It's classic supply and demand, albeit rather distasteful given the current situation.

I paid over the odds for 4 large bottles on sanitiser on Amazon about 3 weeks ago- frustrating but not at all surprising.

Conversely some things will be cheaper than usual- holidays for example.

hankyspanky · 06/03/2020 16:15

@user1497207191 not that I owe you an explanation but, I picked up a couple extra to send to my family but they've managed to get some locally. I'm not fucking selling them or asking anything for them!!!!

cologne4711 · 06/03/2020 16:16

possibly not their fault , they might be having to pass on the costs the wholesalers are asking

then they should refuse to buy and report the wholesaler

peoplepleaser1 · 06/03/2020 16:17

I'm familiar with retail law and can assure people that there is no one to report this to as they haven't form anything wrong in terms of laws or guidance.

Immoral yes, illegal no.

Supply and demand in action!

Derbee · 06/03/2020 16:17

To all those saying “report it”. To whom?

@GCAcademic To the CMA, (Competition & Markets Authority) who have already warned retailers that they could face prosecution for hiking prices to take advantage of the situation.

cologne4711 · 06/03/2020 16:17

I'll repeat this statement from the COmpetition and Markets Authority as some people clearly haven't read the thread in full:

www.gov.uk/government/news/cma-statement-on-sales-and-pricing-practices-during-coronavirus-outbreak

It is not a supply and demand situation.
