Client I hope you are right here. They need to be exceptionally strict. I worry if it was to get into a cancer hospital it would be horrendous. Please let us know after you’ve been how it was. In the meantime anyone else with appointments at cancer hospitals please report here how ‘on it’ the staff were.

I spent a lot of time at The Christie in Manchester with my mum last year and the thought of contamination there is a nightmare those people do not need.

@Exochord same as my Dh's company; they lost two big clients this week as they're battening down the hatches.

Interestingly I haven't seen a downturn in my customer facing business yet but it's around the corner: I have spent the past week I've been off work upgrading my online portion of my business so I can offer my services online.

Umm so a ski chalet was the reason why so many people got it, is a school like a ski chalet? Lots of people packed closely together?

So.. Someone on the tube, sit with your hand not touching your face for ten stops several changes.. Find change.. Touch it, access a loo in London then wash your hands? After touching many more surfaces?

It's an odd one - I don't have cancer but I am severely neutropenic and high risk for neutropenic sepsis so I'm treated by haematology under the Macmillan unit. They're excellent to be fair and because I've had so much illness recently (prone to chest/throat stuff) they've upped my appointments and injections to 10 weekly and 10 days

@Bercows It's mainly been a bit political, not missed much, I hope the parents evening was okay.

I have just got an appointment through for ds at Alder Hey this morning, he has to have blood tests at the clinic that was closed for deep cleaning yesterday beforehand. The appointment is beginning of April - double whammy!

This is probably a ridiculously stupid question - but why are those with nearly the right travel history who are being fobbed off not just lying about it? Do you have to prove it?

You don't have to prove it (yet). I think many people don't really want to be tested and to have to inconvenience and impoverish themselves by self isolating for 14 days. They'll do the minimum by following the guidelines to appease any sense of guilt they might have, but if the government say they can go about their lives as normal, that's what they'll do.

We're still in the stage where most people think it's all a big drama over nothing and just can't see the point. I can't see anyone with that mindset going out of their way to try and force a test.

What's the confusing me is big chocs ascertain that this man, who is our chief officer has laid out before our pm, choices.

And apparently, our chief med officer has chosen the humanitarian one and Boris the bastard has chosen the evil tory one.

I must admit after seeing that video may confidence has plummeted in that man.

What planet is he on!! Explaining how corona can spread in a chalet when bloody schools and any educational sites are worse than chalets and we have to go every day to ski chalet like a conditions with children who don't understand hygiene??

I work at a big travel company and business has TANKED the past couple of weeks. We've had an email basically saying we need to cut costs (no recruitment, cancel teambuilding days or anything frivolous, reduce printing, reduce business flying) and they've just increased the amount of extra holiday that we can buy. Feels pretty serious RN!

But isn’t a clinical, scientific approach exactly what is needed?
China took a hard stance: the rights of the individual were over ruled by the necessity of controlling the outbreak. This is a clinical approach, nobody fussed about people with pets or the need for fresh air or who would look after the children- isn’t that the attitude we want to see in a time of national crisis?

Business will pick up again.
Everyone will be desperate for a holiday once this is over (just not on a cruise ship)

Springinsight I feel the same. I am stuck in a stuffy small room with different lots of 30+ students at a time, who cough Nd sneeze on me. I have no choice! I can't even resign until Easter effective August.
And my own children are likewise stuck.
If I could I would walk out and take my own kids out of their school as well.

I am surprised the travel company did not anticipate this. Airlines started cancelling routes back in January and Cathay staff were advised about 4 weeks ago they would all need to take 3 weeks unpaid leave before June.

On a lighter note if I did catch it, being an antisocial introvert my contacts would be limited to work, the cat and the Waitrose delivery guy

But that Chinese response is ideally what I'd implement here but I know we can't because we have a democracy.

@ShanghaiDiva I agree, I don't want someone who is emotive, I want someone who is a little removed, not political, but uses the science.

Everything about Chris Whitty to me, is controlled and calculated, I can't help thinking that he would stand his ground if push came to shove, his experience is probably the best background anyone could have for this particular job at the moment.

Completely irrelevant information to some but important to others. Boots still have surgical spirit in stock online & Bath & Body works hand gels are over 60%... at least the ones I checked brought back from Canada are. Hope it helps someone

I've been watching the woŕldometer all day we hit globally 100 deaths worldwide at 21.56 however when it updated only 71. people died then got better today?

Is it a travel company with European destinations/ holiday travel fields?

Did you see video linked? Why on earth is he talking about the ski chalet being the ideal environment to spread when many of us and our students are in ski chalet environment every day like lemmings?

I sit and watch students lick fingers whilst eating, cough and sneeze without covering, sharing drink bottles.. Demanding windows are shut....
