Confirmed death of a patient with underlying health conditions.

Source: tweet from Beth Rigby of Sky

Very sad news.

FuckThisWind · 05/03/2020 17:33

Jesus! Had a horrible feeling there had been a death today

How sad 🙁

OldQueen1969 · 05/03/2020 17:35

Very sad that we there has been a death in Berkshire.

But could they not have just mentioned if this person had travelled in a high risk area or contact with someone known to have been exposed? Or if they are unsure state unsure? My logic says if it was someone who has been in routinely with an underlying health condition then less likely to be a traveller? Although not necessarily - gah, this is what I hate - the ability to speculate!

Helenj1977 · 05/03/2020 17:35

Two family members were in contact with Italians last week. They had travelled here that week. Both are now ill, can't get out of bed, awful throats and cough.

111 not interested because they hadn't been to Italy. One has been prescribed penicillin for a throat infection yesterday.

They could easily have it. They don't seem to bother if you haven't been to these places. 8 non travellers must now change this...

Nicepud · 05/03/2020 17:37

Ah, thanks usernameishistory. Knew I'd seen it somewhere but couldn't find it.

Sad about the first UK death from CV. It was bound to happen but still, hope the relatives are left alone.

ofwarren · 05/03/2020 17:37

1st #coronavirus death in the #UK

User1775564212 · 05/03/2020 17:38

What will the ‘delay’ phase entail??

User1775564212 · 05/03/2020 17:38

Really sad news 😓

SnoozyLou · 05/03/2020 17:39

Seeing as the majority of our cases seem to be coming from skiing trips to north Italy though, wouldn't it have been a good idea to stop non essential travel, or at least make people isolate afterwards? Isn't it crazy to have these people turning up in schools and public services the next day after return? Wouldn't you have thought management at least might have been wary?

I suppose hindsight is 20/20.

FaisPasCiFaisPasCa · 05/03/2020 17:40

People are still skiing and returning all the time.

MurrayTheMonk · 05/03/2020 17:40

So we're now in the 'delay' phase officially. But it seems to look exactly the same as the seemingly pretty useless 'Contain' phase in practical terms... can anyone explain what the actual difference is?

FourTeaFallOut · 05/03/2020 17:40

But no-one was described as seriously ill. Did they find evidence of coronavirus post- mortum or am I being dense?

FaisPasCiFaisPasCa · 05/03/2020 17:41

Now we have sustained transmission in non travellers it prob doesn't matter now.

magicrainbowbeans · 05/03/2020 17:41

So UK cases have nearly doubled in 48 hours?

oli1977 · 05/03/2020 17:41

First death case in UK. Older patient with complication.

middleager · 05/03/2020 17:42

Playing catch up. Somebody upthread mentioned The Midlands.

They are right, it's an enormous region. The West Midlands alone (let alone The Midlands) is the third largest region. Top two being London.

As of yesterday the West Midlands had two cases, Derby had 3, now it says 'The Midlands' 9.

Not helpful here in Birmingham.

halcyondays · 05/03/2020 17:43

Sad news, I wouldn’t assume they hadn’t travelled, plenty of people with underlying health conditions do travel.

The government don’t seem to be terribly bothered about all the travellers returning from a Northern Italy. The official advice is that unless they’ve been to one of the locked down towns, or have symptoms they don’t need to self isolate. Is it any wonder it’s spreading ?

GalOopNorth · 05/03/2020 17:43

Anyone know where in Cornwall? My sister lives there...

SnoozyLou · 05/03/2020 17:44

@FaisPasCiFaisPasCa I know. But as you say, people are still coming and going unchecked, going straight back to work. That will do nothing to slow it down.

woodencoffeetable · 05/03/2020 17:44

one colleague is in home quarantine after testing positive.
feels awful.
work has activated the 'flu' plan.
anyone with cold symptoms is not allowed into work building and has to work from home.

Delatron · 05/03/2020 17:45

There was a case in Newbury which is Berkshire. I think it was just one case as we’re quite close here.

justchecking1 · 05/03/2020 17:45

How is it likely there are rogue HCPs out there?

I just know my colleagues. If we had access to tests in the trust, we would use them
