@GalOopNorth Don't know for certain, but they closed a surgery in Plymouth yesterday with a confirmed case. If they lived over the bridge, that would count as Cornwall.

MurrayTheMonk · 05/03/2020 17:46

I'm actually now getting a bit angry with this. Had some advice from the PHE for Herts this afternoon re how social care should work through the CV issue. Which again basically amounted to 'get staff to wash their hands'. Which they always did anyway.
'If someone has travelled and is symptomatic send them home' (but that's all you need to do at this stage whoever they have mixed with meanwhile).

My boss got back from northern Italy a week and a half ago and has been coughing his way around three care homes ever since. He called 111 and they didn't even suggest testing. So he's been at work ever since in contact with highly vulnerable client groups.

Beginning to think There is no actual planning or consistency around this at all. Both for social care and in general.
Government don't seem to be making any decisions at all. It's all so vague.

HerstoryInTheMaking · 05/03/2020 17:47

Apparently there is a case at the Uni of Sussex, according to friend who has DC there.

mrshoho · 05/03/2020 17:49

Three cases in Barnet north London that seem to be travel related.

hoovermyrug · 05/03/2020 17:49

@Albatross123 that report is so helpful thank you. If you haven't read it yet do!

How do we find out where the specific cases are?

Letseatgrandma · 05/03/2020 17:49

@HerstoryInTheMaking
I tread that about the University of Sussex earlier. I thought it said that whilst the person was a student there, they hadn’t actually been to campus since being infected?

Delatron · 05/03/2020 17:49

Ah correction they only tested positive for the Coronavirus last night. Which is a worry.

Skyejuly · 05/03/2020 17:50

I work in a dementia home. Our plan is basically hope we dont get an outbreak at our home. Very scary.

GalOopNorth · 05/03/2020 17:50

Thanks SnoozyLou. She’s near Newquay and I knew a school there did a N Italy ski trip, wondered if it was one of them.

FaisPasCiFaisPasCa · 05/03/2020 17:51

So the plan is to wash hands with fingers crossed.

GorkyMcPorky · 05/03/2020 17:51

Wow. I'm struggling to banish the thought that this actually suits an economic agenda. It seems negligent to allow this to happen.

AutumnRose1 · 05/03/2020 17:51

Murray “ My boss got back from northern Italy a week and a half ago and has been coughing his way around three care homes ever since. ”

Why didn’t he isolate himself?

SnoozyLou · 05/03/2020 17:52

@GalOopNorth As I say, I'm not 100% sure, but it would explain it.

Fourducksate · 05/03/2020 17:54

Sad news. Reading between the lines, it does sound as if they had been in hospital at some stage and we’re readmitted. I wonder if it is part of the testing of patients presenting with respiratory problems.

I had a reply to my email to school which I asked about washing and gels at computer stations.

.... they’ve highlighted importance of hand washing, but due to a national shortage we are unable to provide hand gel at work stations ...,,

A bit concerning as we now have a couple of cases only 6 miles away.

HerstoryInTheMaking · 05/03/2020 17:55

@Letseatgrandma
Not sure if they were on campus or not, friend whose DC goes there text her and she mentioned it when we were having coffee.

Langbannedforsafeguardingkids · 05/03/2020 17:55

He told ITV's This Morning programme: "One of the theories is perhaps you could take it on the chin, take it all in one go and allow the disease to move through the population without really taking as many draconian measures. I think we need to strike a balance

IF this is true it's very worrying. This is called the 'let all the vulnerable people die' strategy. No measures = more deaths.

If they stop going into Parliament but tell everyone else to go into work - that tells you all you need to know.

SnoozyLou · 05/03/2020 17:55

From an employer's point of view, if you had someone turn up for work tomorrow, fresh from Northern Italy, would you let them stay and potentially put everyone they came into contact with at risk?

I don't think I would.

Springinsight · 05/03/2020 17:57

Helen j

I find that monstrous.

I can't believe it. That is exactly how the man in Italy started to spread it.

He spread it to fellows runners, pub drinkers, when ill there was a procession of friends and family at bedside, hospital staff and it was only when his wife remembered... Contact with Chinese colleagues that he was tested for covid... By that time the damage was done.

This is insane.

Langbannedforsafeguardingkids · 05/03/2020 17:57

I've heard of far more employers taking this seriously than the government - instigating travel bans and working from home policies. I do think any workplace which can do this should, if only to help slow the spread among those who cannot WFH or limit travel (like doctors and nurses).

HerstoryInTheMaking · 05/03/2020 17:58

Posted a separate thread but seems might of been better to post here. Does anyone know the situation at Kings College Hospital, it seems that two patients tested positive at the hospital after being treated in a standard hospital ward for a week.

Read an LBC article saying two wards were in 'lockdown' concerned as I visited the hospital last week. Wondered if this was true that the two patients were treated in a normal ward, if so a lot of health workers could have been exposed.

fezzesarecool · 05/03/2020 17:58

TBH they government don’t give a shit about us, there’s a lot of things they could have done a while ago

I feel like it’s all lip service and basically they are already resigned to the long term outcome as it money and the state of the economy next year

For example, sorry no links but on BBC News a couple of nights ago there was a segment on the increased demand on hand sanitizer and how a factory was keeping up etc And then they very proudly showed a massive shipment ready to go to China as its was a lovely new contract for them but bollocks to this country's supply

I do feel the level of ignorance around this unbelievable Today I purposely struck up the subject, one person said it’s just a cold, another two very nicely offered to pop to the shops for me if needed if I get affected

I’m not saying everyone needs to panic but there seems to be no understanding of the implications, and what we can do to help ourselves apart from washing our hands. Germany, India and Turkey are now banning exports for medical supplies as they need it for their countries.

Also heard a couple happily chatting away about going in their Easter Break aboard at Easter and how lovely it will be

Honestly I believe to get through this as it will affect us in different ways for a long time we do need to readjust our thinking

Rant over, sorry if that doesn’t make sense but I had to get it off my chest

VivaLeBeaver · 05/03/2020 17:58

What will the ‘delay’ phase entail?

Hand washing promotion and possibly stopping testing. Work on assumption if you have symptoms you have it. Probably stopping contact tracking as too many cases to be able to.

Springinsight · 05/03/2020 17:58

Snoozy I would ask anyone from anywhere in Italy to either work from home home or self isolation

AHippoNamedBooBooButt · 05/03/2020 18:00

The UK has its first fatality 😢. On bbc news

HerstoryInTheMaking · 05/03/2020 18:00
