I think it’s important not to blame people for transmitting the virus - it’s likely she was unaware that she was contagious & I’m fairly certain will be quite concerned for her own health & the health of those who she may have passed it on to. We don’t chose to get sick & we already know there will be plenty more people contracting the virus over the coming weeks / months. I think we’re all concerned about what’s to come, but we can all try and be a bit more understanding and kind.

Yy fais.

For those asking about the NE, for reasons unknown the regional figures have grouped NE and Yorkshire/Humber together so the current 10 actually covers quite wide geographical area.

Quartz2208 · 05/03/2020 17:08

In some way we all need to work on the assumption that it is around us and behave accordingly. Knowing is likely to cause complacency in the areas that at the moment dont. Which isnt good considering how quickly that can change

Interesting point on the bbc that in order to get the extra ICU beds all elective surgeries would be stopped and operating rooms used.

Relative who is quite senior in the NHS reckons we will see a significant rise in cases next week.

Milkwith1sugar44 · 05/03/2020 17:11

I'm sick of all the media hype now.
People have no idea how it felt for me to stand over my baby's life support bed and watch him in an induced coma fighting swine flu.
I'm trying so hard to focus on the positives. He's 9 now and a lot stronger, but still has health issues due to his condition.
If I let myself I could become a complete wreck, but I'm trying to cling to any positives I can find.

Albatross123 · 05/03/2020 17:11

Not sure if this has been posted here but it gives a very detailed summary of the symptoms:

CrunchyCarrot · 05/03/2020 17:11

ou don't get tested if you have symptoms and have mixed with someone who has been to a high risk area. You only get tested if that person gets confirmed positive.

The testing criteria are incredibly narrow. We're missing lots of cases by this point

That's grim, but then how did the people who have no travel history to hot spots manage to get tested? Or were they so bad they ended up in hospital then got tested? It's all rather confusing. And I agree, we must be missing many cases.

Skierrdery · 05/03/2020 17:12

Well you'd expect the numbers to double or triple as per the R0 level.

ofwarren · 05/03/2020 17:13

Italy reports 769 new cases of coronavirus and 41 new deaths, raising total to 3,858 cases and 148 dead t.co/eUoE2b20hL

usernameishistory · 05/03/2020 17:14

@Milkwith1sugar44. This is totally different and those under 10 dont have the level of lung receptors that aid cv19 transmission in the more mature lungs.

We don't seem to know. It's likely there are some "rogue" healthcare professionals out there who are testing suspicious cases even if they don't meet official criteria. If I was a respiratory consultant for example, I'd definitely be doing that with any unusual cases, but I'm the wrong kind of doctor to be seeing these symptoms!

GorkyMcPorky · 05/03/2020 17:14

@SirVixofVixHall, I read the second Welsh case is in Cardiff (local newspaper).

Quartz2208 · 05/03/2020 17:16

@Albatross123 that is interesting as it says that mild symptoms took 2 weeks to recover from. That is definitely not a mild cold

usernameishistory · 05/03/2020 17:16

This is interesting to me that despite small difference, relatively, in total.cases, nearly double new cases!!

Germany 444(total) +182 (new)428 16 2
France 377 +92

usernameishistory · 05/03/2020 17:17

Is this the critical number to hit for dramatic expotential rise?

Glittercandle · 05/03/2020 17:17

That’s a big rise in Italy.

Frouby · 05/03/2020 17:18

There has been a confirmed case about 2 miles away from me.

The children (it's a parent of primary aged children) have been told to self isolate. The primary school is still open. My ds goes to a different school but I had heard rumours and am glad I didn't take him for his swimming lesson last night, which is in a leisure centre used by both villages.

My aunt has lung cancer and an autoimmune disease. So obviously we are very concerned. Other family members are vulnerable as well, think most of us have vulnerable loved ones.

Am asthmatic but it's well managed ao am not too anxious about me or the dcs or dh. Am anticipating local schools being closed if the number of cases increases locally and suspect they will. Am going to limit shopping to once a week only instead of nipping in every few days which I usually end up doing. And have told dcs we will only be doing school instead of soft play and school parties and everything else we do.

Dd is 15 and in the middle of GCSEs so I won't be keeping her off school but if we get any pupils at ds school (hes year 1) who are sent home to self isolate I will be keeping him off. Can't rely on him effectively washing his hands or generally licking and touching things he shouldn't.

And dd is very smug that she is a bit obsessed with anti bac gel as she has quite a stash.

Ciwirocks · 05/03/2020 17:20

Italy’s death rate seems really high! Why is that?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 05/03/2020 17:20

One of the NE cases is Newcastle. They attended a private soft play party at the locals softplay last weekend. They have had a positive result for coronavirus. It's on local news and confirmed by the soft play too.

usernameishistory · 05/03/2020 17:20

Tests are on lock down, so noone else can order them.

How is it likely there are rogue HCPs out there?

BambooBoobam · 05/03/2020 17:21

Ciwirocks I read it was because they have an aged population. Something like 23% are over 65yrs old.

itsallwrongisntit · 05/03/2020 17:22

I'm scared now I've seen the story on sky news page about funeral directors and planning for how people may not be able to have the funeral they want.

Omg! I think that's the tipping point for me now reading that.

Bloody hell. This is going to be bad. Sad
