There won't be any sneering in three weeks time, unfortunately.

Random18 · 05/03/2020 16:35

Just looked at the Midlands region which I am in. Such a large area so numbers are meaningless really. Its cases more locally I am interested in.

IceWings · 05/03/2020 16:35

PHE will ONLY test people who have a travel Hx
I’ve been really ill and wanted to be tested but they refused because I haven’t travelled. If I’d tested positive I wouldn’t have chaired that meeting with 70 attendees. Now I have no idea whether they or I have it.

justchecking1 · 05/03/2020 16:36

So - if you have all the COVID-19 symptoms, but haven't been to one of the travel hot spots or know someone who has, you won't get tested, is that right?

No. You don't get tested if you have symptoms and have mixed with someone who has been to a high risk area. You only get tested if that person gets confirmed positive.

The testing criteria are incredibly narrow. We're missing lots of cases by this point

SisterAgatha · 05/03/2020 16:36

And as Norfolk had zero cases yesterday, I doubt they got 17 overnight. Herts and Essex were already on their way and growing.

Quartz2208 · 05/03/2020 16:36

@sisteragatha

Nope Herts Essex are definitely East of England - its done by NHS regions as far as I can see

Glittercandle · 05/03/2020 16:38

I’ve been living here for over 15 years now and think of myself as living in the South East but looks it’s officially East. DH commutes into London everyday so I think that will have more of an impact than local cases - which will probably rise due to living in a commuter town.

Cambridge and Northampton can also be called east sometimes. I'm in suffolk so watching closely

TheFormidableMrsC · 05/03/2020 16:38

@SisterAgatha I can roughly guess where you are too, I'm about 15 mins from Hertford. The one very local to me was a parent of a child at a local primary, however, there have been no further reported cases. I admit to staying in as much as I can, I am not going to an event this weekend but I am concerned about a friend and her children who I have daily close contact with who are going to a very large school related music event at the Royal Albert Hall on Sunday. I think it should have been cancelled. So many bodies from all over the place in an enclosed space. All you can do is take sensible precautions which I am doing. Also concerned for London based DD who is on and off tube all day. What can you do?

SisterAgatha · 05/03/2020 16:39

Well that’s actually much better news then! Smile

FaisPasCiFaisPasCa · 05/03/2020 16:40

justchecking These are valid important questions. How can we get them answered?

usernameishistory · 05/03/2020 16:40

Justchecking unless one of the 100 do you mean? Or do you mean outside of the 100 surgeries testing?

PatriciaBateman · 05/03/2020 16:40

@Figleaf

Description of the illness from the first Brit who had it.

uk.yahoo.com/news/coronavirus-first-briton-describes-symptoms-120155314.html

There is an article from him in the Daily Mail too, but a lot more sensationalised.

SisterAgatha · 05/03/2020 16:41

TheFormidableMrsC I have a London based activity next week too. I’m still expecting them to call it off but maybe they won’t. Do you drive in to London much? I may do that so at least the tube isn’t a worry.

mummumumumumumumumumum · 05/03/2020 16:41

i know someone whose child was at a school with kids who have been on a ski trip. He has symptoms and is really poorly but because of his symptoms has been told not to leave the house for testing. There could be lots more cases that we dont know anything about

ajandjjmum · 05/03/2020 16:43

I have to go to London to DD's flat next week - I'm driving rather than taking the train as I would normally.

usernameishistory · 05/03/2020 16:44

Ski trip where though?

FaisPasCiFaisPasCa · 05/03/2020 16:44

I've tried tweeting some journos to ask them to ask for more detail.

mummumumumumumumumumum · 05/03/2020 16:45

sorry ski trip to northern italy. Some of the school kids have been tested apparently but because the child is off ill he hasnt been.

TheFormidableMrsC · 05/03/2020 16:46

@SisterAgatha I do drive in sometimes, I have family in central London. If I do go in, I will drive. I have no inclination to get on the train or tube currently!

ofwarren · 05/03/2020 16:47

large number of soldiers in Skjold camp (Troms) #Norway are now isolated, after a member of the cavalry squadron tested positive for the #coronavirus.

There does seem to be a lack of information, doesn’t there?

FaisPasCiFaisPasCa · 05/03/2020 16:49

Channel4 tends to have a good depth to questions.
