I hope the King’s College hospital rumour isn’t true. That’s where I am being treated for cancer.

AHippoNamedBooBooButt · 04/03/2020 20:22

Not sure it's been mention at the end of the last thread (i cant keep up as they move so fast) but the confirmed case in Kent caught covid19 from italy, however today it has been confirmed that she visited Rome and not northern Italy.

teraculum29 · 04/03/2020 20:23

Poland, have 1st case of corona virus, person was infected in Germany.

screamer1 · 04/03/2020 20:24

What are people's views on taking in visitors?

MIL due to travel down from Yorkshire to stay with us in 2 weeks.

Also SIL coming over from the states in 3 weeks.

Newleafinspring · 04/03/2020 20:24

Re the reinfected cases, I think it's more likely the virus not totally be cleared, so come back. That's why in China, the patients need to be tested 2 negative a few days apart, then lung scan is ok. The patient can be discharged, but still need to self isolate at home for another 2 weeks.

Faybian · 04/03/2020 20:25

@daisypond I hope so too. Smile

ofwarren · 04/03/2020 20:26

@screamer1
My parents are supposed to be visiting in 2 weeks. I have told them not to come.

middleager · 04/03/2020 20:26

daisy hope there is an update for you and other patients soon.

screamer1 · 04/03/2020 20:29

How did they react @ofwarren

I would rather she didn't come but I might have a battle in my hands with DH

ofwarren · 04/03/2020 20:33

She hasn't spoken to me about it since @screamer1
I had one message last night asking me something about how to find her programme on the fire stick but other than that she is in ignoring my messages.

unluckyagain · 04/03/2020 20:34

Why would people not take in visitors? Surely you're just as likely to catch it from someone on the bus, in a shop, etc etc

TokyoSushi · 04/03/2020 20:34

Checking in!

hoovermyrug · 04/03/2020 20:34

Very embarrassed that I didn't know how to watch a thread!

auslass · 04/03/2020 20:35

My parents are visiting for the birth of our daughter from Australia in May. Hoping its all blown over!

screamer1 · 04/03/2020 20:36

@unluckyagain I'm lucky in that I can work at home. I suppose it's just trying to limit external factors. Probably gives a sense of control.

Also if companies are saying no travel, wouldn't that translate to the home too?

FusspotsMum · 04/03/2020 20:37

*I think at this point our gov is holding back and waiting for the right moment to go full steam on the measures seen in Italy and China. I think it’s a good plan (and I usually hate our government) because it will give a bit more time for the penny to drop in the people who are saying it’s just media hype.

Really hope this is true, and that their strategy is not to just accept that 80 percent of us will be infected as has been talked about. So much is unknown about this new virus, including long term effects and if immunity in the population can be built up, the idea they may give up on containment is frightening.

TheLadyAnneNeville · 04/03/2020 20:40

Booked a week in Bologna first week in May. It would’ve been my mums 80th so me, my sister and two nieces are taking her ashes to Verona to scatter. That was the plan.

My sister’s attitude is “it’ll be fine, we’re GOING!” I’m all for cancelling unless Covid19 disappears as suddenly as it came, despite losing the money.

Anyone have any advice?

Sipperskipper · 04/03/2020 20:42

Joining this thread - lots of great info.

I’m an acute oncology & palliative care nurse in a hospital in the south east. Particularly worried how this will affect these patients. I see on a daily basis how the acute sector struggles to cope, even with day to day winter demands. Very concerned with its capacity to deal with a large influx of patients with complications of Coronavirus.

I’m also 14 weeks pregnant and slightly concerned about that, although not panicking.

hankyspanky · 04/03/2020 20:43

@noreciprocityherefella this is the email I sent......

I am absolutely horrified at the announcement made earlier today by Public Health England in taking the decision to not release the locations of the new positive tests of Covid-19.

You do know that every epidemiologist of note has said that trust & transparency are the way to effectively manage an epidemic? That's why those who are succeeding such as Singapore, make this accessible daily. ( These are key things they learned hard way from SARS).

Dr Colin Campbell has given far clearer updates and information than has been forthcoming from any member of your party.

You have a duty of care to provide the public with as much information as you can to enable us to make our own decisions regarding risk.

Treating us as children and sticking your departmental head in the sand will not make it go away - quite the opposite. All this has done is now create widespread panic rather than educating people. You and the rest of the Government will have blood on your hands.

Regards,

Abraid2 · 04/03/2020 20:43

I’m off skiing in France on Saturday, Spain in May with an immunosuppressed elderly parent. Nothing cancelled so far—unless official advice changes, of course, or flights are cancelled. Hoping warmer weather will help contain CV.

TheLadyAnneNeville · 04/03/2020 20:44

Oh, and I wish they’d cancel CRUFTS. All those people from all corners of the earth. Madness!

ofwarren · 04/03/2020 20:47

1st case of #Coronavirus in #SLOVENIA (Ljubljana)

furrytoebean · 04/03/2020 20:55

Can anyone answer me why we aren't doing widespread testing?
Surely we should just test as many people as we can and get postitve cases to self isolate.
I can't understand if we're supposed to be containing it why we arent testing.

Babyroobs · 04/03/2020 20:58

I guess they would just never keep up with the testing, people will have to keep being re-tested every few days surely?

ofwarren · 04/03/2020 20:58

Great letter hankey I agree with every word
