Saudi Arabia reports 2nd case of #coronavirus — patient returned from #Iran

FecktheBoss · 04/03/2020 19:22

tud41 · 04/03/2020 19:23

Of course it's the worldometers website for it.. Yes a lot of it will be to do with the fact many people are recovering but I feel its important to look at active cases rather than total as that gives you a true picture of where we stand with it all... No point looking at total cases since the beginning as that will only ever go up...

middleager · 04/03/2020 19:23

Only 3 in Russia?

Jenasaurus · 04/03/2020 19:23

Just noticed John Campbells latest video, he states 12 have recovered in the UK, my map states 8, does anyone know if he gets information from another source so the Worldometer hasn't caught up yet.

middleager · 04/03/2020 19:23

3 reported cases....

Meruem

Yes, that ch4 interview was excellent. He was very honest and was using the 3+ % CFR based on the situation so far.

ofwarren · 04/03/2020 19:26

GERMANY- A teacher who works in a daycare center in Münster in North Rhine-Westphalia has become infected with the #coronavirus. 20 children of the affected day care center should therefore be tested and are currently in domestic quarantine.

Oakmaiden · 04/03/2020 19:26

@tud41

I think that is cos the largest number of cases were in China, and the cases there are now falling. But they have only within the past 2 weeks really started rising in other places, so there is a way to go yet.

pussycatinboots · 04/03/2020 19:26

ofwarren thanks for that, I thought it was just me Blush

Saucery · 04/03/2020 19:27

@pussycatinboots yes, I’ve stopped wearing all but my wedding ring as that is smooth and loose and washable. Other rings are chunky and intricate so I’ve stopped wearing those.

Just catching up with the figures after work.

I didn't expect it to be at 87, it's quite a jump. I expect tomorrow will more than likely take us over 100.

Dylaninthemovies1 · 04/03/2020 19:30

@MissPoldark, I do now! Thanks

magicrainbowbeans · 04/03/2020 19:31

I think this is where we see the big growth. Surmising Government cobra may be meeting because if say numbers have doubled they will really want to communicate that carefully.

chillychicken · 04/03/2020 19:34

Stupid question alert:
We know there is UK to UK transmission but still 111 won’t suggest testing unless you have recently come back from abroad or are known to have been in contact with someone with Coronavirus.

I get that they can’t test everyone but the advice is to stay away from hospitals, GPS, etc so is it possible that there’s a reasonably large number of infected people out there who don’t know if they have a mild case of CV or just feel a bit under the weather?

User1775564212 · 04/03/2020 19:35

Just had a thought - if you can get reinfected i.e don’t build up immunity, will that mean making a vaccine more difficult?

tud41 · 04/03/2020 19:38

Oh yes not saying we are there yet but if that carries on for the next couple of weeks it can only be positive. Plus would show another reason why it's not being classed as a pandemic while active cases decrease everyday.

Packingsoapandwater · 04/03/2020 19:39

I've read the government report and seen the press conference, and my understanding was that they are very cautious about taking measures that will cause social upheaval too early.

The fear seems to be that if you implement certain containment measures before the peak, then you risk those constraints having to last longer, and you risk more people defying advice to stay in quarantine.

It's one thing to be asked to stay indoors for a week, but quite another for that quarantine to last a month. And we are not China. The British state cannot start welding people into their homes to enforce a quarantine.

They are trying to get the timing right. And the focus does seem to be on virus management to avoid NHS overload.

NettleTea · 04/03/2020 19:39

perhaps the 2 different strains explain the double infections

mymigraine · 04/03/2020 19:39

user really there should be some immunity

sparkly72 · 04/03/2020 19:40

@hankypanky @ofwarren bbc and yes I gather it's tonight
