I love elementsofmedical's wording here- Perhaps they mean less aggressive in the sense that it's less killy than the L type.

Acrasia · 04/03/2020 21:40

Ah balls. Well I guess Flybe made the decision that I shan’t be travelling back to the UK now. I was going to wait and see, as my flights weren’t for another six weeks, and I was hoping it might not be affected. Am currently in an area that is becoming a bit of a hotspot anyway so wouldn’t want to risk passing it onto family & friends in the UK. Well, at least that’s one less thing to worry about I suppose.... Fuck.

Awkward1 · 04/03/2020 21:40

Lol 're brainwashing bloody kindle autocorrect sometimes won't even keep my corrections.

The holidaymakers
-airports
-flights
-public transport
-eating out
-skiing so in cold weather
-half term so loads of school trips and busy
-bars/socialising
-rental eqipment/ski lifts

Probably almost every one of the things which would increase risk

I imagine chalets aren't sterile/toilets etc. So all it takes is a superspreader before you. I

If they know it lasts say 9 days on surfaces then lockdown should help a lot.

I think like French stopping events and closing tourist destinations would help most.

peridito · 04/03/2020 21:42

@daisypond just read this on the "locations" thread

The cases reported at KCH by the BBC are supposedly at the PRUH's ICU if local reports are to be believed, could be a case that was identified as a result of the new testing of all ICU patients with symptoms?

VivaLeBeaver · 04/03/2020 21:47

Ime, chalets are a bit like cruise ships. Bugs spread like wildfire. I’ve stayed at more than one chalet/resort with a Noro outbreak.

As I posted upthread, my OH is due to leave the house at 6 tomorrow to catch a Flybe flight to go to his brother's funeral 🤦‍♀️
Haven't seen any definitive news yet though.

ofwarren · 04/03/2020 21:49

UNESCO: More than 290 million students are out of school due to the #Coronavirus.

RedToothBrush · 04/03/2020 21:50

The phrase 'less killy' should be in common every day useage.

NotJustACigar · 04/03/2020 21:50

Oh that's awful JollyHostess, I hope he makes it somehow Sad.

yolofish · 04/03/2020 21:51

Mmm, begining to think we might not be going to the Alps to see DD1 later this month - she will be gutted. Also wondering about Antwerp trip in early April (which was for David Gray's White Ladder 25th anniv gig). Supposed to be going to a wedding in Tuscany in June. Purely selfishly, we've had a shit couple of years and not been ANYWHERE, why does this have to happen NOW?!!

yolofish · 04/03/2020 21:52

sorry cross posted with jolly hope your DH can work somethign out.

FaisPasCiFaisPasCa · 04/03/2020 21:53

Jolly that's awful. Hope he can get another flight,

KenAdams · 04/03/2020 21:53

@JollyHostess all their planes are currently being impounded/blocked in. Current flight enroute from Hannover will be the last Flybe flight.

JollyHostess · 04/03/2020 21:55

Thanks @yolofish and @NotJustACigar, he's resigning himself to the idea of not being able to go...it does feel a bit Act of God ish.

JollyHostess · 04/03/2020 21:57

@KenAdams Thank you, that's good to know! Where have you seen this? I can't find any proper info.

yolofish · 04/03/2020 21:57

Where does he have to get to jolly? UK or abroad? any chance of a train instead? he must be gutted.

pussycatinboots · 04/03/2020 21:58

Jolly Flowers sorry.

LEELULUMPKIN · 04/03/2020 21:58

My BFF is flying to San Fran tomorrow for a 17 day cruise on the Princess line. I am worried it is the same ship where that poor soul has just died from was on. The route seems very similar.

Also, not sure if anyone has already posted this link but I have found this useful for stats. (apologies if you all already know about it)

DH thinking of cancelling boys holiday to Berlin in a few weeks time because I’m pregnant and he doesn’t want to risk bringing anything back

I think it’s too early to be deciding and at this moment I would say go.

Would you be ok with your DH flying to Germany at the moment if you were due to give birth soon?

Motorina · 04/03/2020 22:00

As said in the same WHO statement, the 3.4% figure is massively skewed by the 6.6% death rate in the US,

I have no doubt that the US is wildly undertesting, but they have reported a total of 154 cases and 11 deaths. That's not enough to skew the death rate by more than a gnat's whisker.

JollyHostess · 04/03/2020 22:01

It's UK but far flung...train wouldn't get there in time.
Thanks all...he's ok. He'll speak to his family later.

pussycatinboots · 04/03/2020 22:01

LEELULU
www.myshiptracking.com/ you can track ships here.

justchecking1 · 04/03/2020 22:03

Worldometer now at 87. Where did the extra 2 come from? N. Ireland, Scotland or Wales?

LEELULUMPKIN · 04/03/2020 22:03

Thanks so much pussycat!

Springinsight · 04/03/2020 22:04

Nemo, no I would not be happy at all.
Germany is rife with this, airports even worse random hotels etc being quarantined.
Giving birth throws up enough random people variables as it is why add another? If this is perhaps your 10th child and your ok on your own.. Maybe... Otherwise no no no.
