Well, no matter you believe it or not, lots of China's province has 0 cases for a while now, and people outside Wuhan has gradually return to work since last Monday.

ofwarren · 04/03/2020 15:51

38 cases of #Coronavirus in #Netherlands now

IveGotBillsTheyreMultiplying · 04/03/2020 15:52

Is there any thought as to the impact of the obesity epidemic on Coronavirus?

I don't think China or Italy have as high rates as us.

We will have high rates of people with diabetes, hypertension, cancer, sleep apnoea and other obesity related conditions. But probably fewer smokers.

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 04/03/2020 15:52

Justchecking - I checked "Wales Online" the news site, not I checked for wales, online on PHE :)

FourTeaFallOut · 04/03/2020 15:53

You get the feeling some people post with one eye on their stock portfolio.

RevolutionofourTime · 04/03/2020 15:54

@FelicityFebruary it's very depressing, always reactive, never bothering to curb people because we can't be like China

China also has concentration camps, abducts people, farms organs off political prisoners, and has no free speech. So no, the UK can’t be like China, and that’s a jolly good thing.

GPwife2411 · 04/03/2020 15:55

The Newcastle case is the first in the NE I think.

UPDATE: Spain reported 51 new cases of coronavirus since last night, raising country's total to 202 t.co/eUoE2b20hL

Every epidemiologist of note has said that trust & transparency are the way to effectively manage an epidemic. That's why those who are succeeding such as Singapore, make the infection locations accessible daily. ( These are key things they learned hard way from SARS)

I guess today’s true number is actually over 100 and we’ll be shifting to the next part of the strategy?

I didn’t realise we were living in a dictatorship though where essential public health information was withheld. I can only suggest emailing MP’s or starting a revolution..

middleager · 04/03/2020 16:01

Thank ofwarren that's quite a jump.

Quartz2208 · 04/03/2020 16:02

@felicityfebruary we definitely DO NOT want our Government to be like China.

Because if they were quite a lot of us would be in some serious trouble on this thread so our views about them.

middleager · 04/03/2020 16:02

This.

VivaLeBeaver · 04/03/2020 16:02

I think everything should shut for 2 weeks. Work, schools, everything. Everyone self isolate. Short term pain but worth it if it stops this?

FelicityFebruary · 04/03/2020 16:02

The excuse is we can't be like China.

It's a cover for not being proactive.

IveGotBillsTheyreMultiplying · 04/03/2020 16:03

Is there a WHO report today? I find them very useful.

Polgara2 · 04/03/2020 16:03

Can anyone remind me why Vietnam is on the category 2 list of countries? (Which says only self isolate if you have symptoms? ) My daughter who has asthma is potentially going to be in contact on Saturday with someone who is returning from Vietnam today. I think she should cancel but am I bring over dramatic or sensible?

Oakmaiden · 04/03/2020 16:03

Um. Yeah. Maths fail there. Was trying to calculate the percentage in Hubei, but accidentally multiplied by an extra 100.

Kind of makes my point stand even more though.

FelicityFebruary · 04/03/2020 16:04

Any way there is no point me crying over spilt milk. Just saying I'm depressed at my own society. Don't want to be Chinese.

IveGotBillsTheyreMultiplying · 04/03/2020 16:05

There is strong twitter response against the announcement from DHSC-they will be getting the message loud and clear.

fezzesarecool · 04/03/2020 16:05

Someone was asking for a map, this is when there was 51 cases

The trouble with shutting everything for two weeks now it can re-emerge - was listening to this on R4

ifonly4 · 04/03/2020 16:07

I wonder if the WHO charts are updating as cases coming in, as it was showing more than the figure given yesterday, and is currently showing 90 cases here!

RevolutionofourTime · 04/03/2020 16:07

@Polgara2, Vietnam has no live cases of Coronavirus. They reported 16 in the early days, all of which have made a full recovery. They also banned Chinese and SK travellers, from pretty early on iirc.

I don’t know how much you can trust their figures, but they say they have no cases.

MarshaBradyo · 04/03/2020 16:08

It has geographically spread rather well looking at that map
