I don't think there is any huge conspiracy here.

The numbers will now spike hugely and the Gov know this. Makes sense for them to put the locations on a central database, they will not be able to put them all in tweets.

The UK is a tiny country, it will be in all four corners soon enough.

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 04/03/2020 15:19

Well I'd move my appt tomorrow, and if I couldn't do that I'd at least get a taxi to town rather than a bus. Then straight in for my appt, and straight home again.

I'd also know whether I should consider stopping taking my immunosuppressants for a bit.

SouthwarkRoad · 04/03/2020 15:20

In a silver lining, I'm actually quite glad I now have a legitimate excuse not to go to the gym.

Babyroobs · 04/03/2020 15:21

I don't go out much socially but am worried about travelling on crowded buses which I have to for work. I work in a non essential role with severely immunocompromised cancer patients, yet surprisingly they are still allowing us to go onto the wards. I would have thought cancer hospitals should be stopping non essential staff and visitors particularly on haematology wards.

HRH2020 · 04/03/2020 15:21

Interesting about Kingston and Norbiton cases. On the Coronavirus Facebook page there is a man and his grandson in Kingston who have been very unwell for 3 weeks and saying many other local people appear to be unwell with similar symptoms, yet not being tested as no direct link to a case or recent travel 🤷‍♀️

DominicCummingsForehead · 04/03/2020 15:21

It seems a little naive to wait for a case to be announced in your county/town/village before you change your behaviour.

Assume it is everywhere, remember we are two weeks behind!

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 04/03/2020 15:22

Also if it's not here, I might go to the gym. Not cancelling my membership btw, even if I can't go. Gym staff gotta pay their bills too! (obviously I know that for some people the money of gym membership is gonna be a real problem if they cannot work)

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 04/03/2020 15:23

Generally I am Dominic, but I cannot afford taxis to every appointment I have for the next month, just in case. Wish I could!

RevolutionofourTime · 04/03/2020 15:24

Aargh, just as I was typing the above HK announced 4 new cases today.

FelicityFebruary · 04/03/2020 15:24

They are taking the life must go on line. Fair enough I see the argument.

That said I think you should be given the option to take kids out if you wish. Personally we will carry on with school. But I realise I speak from a privileged position of reasonable health. And we don't have grandparents right by us.

FourTeaFallOut · 04/03/2020 15:24

Well, in the absence of information and the ability to make an informed decision about where the community spread in forming, then we'll just cut everything out that isn't essential now.

CrunchyCarrot · 04/03/2020 15:24

I'd also know whether I should consider stopping taking my immunosuppressants for a bit.

I don't know what you take them for, Beyond, but do get medical advice first.

oneteen · 04/03/2020 15:24

Perhaps inter school sport should stop... Its a very quick way of spreading the disease between schools...

Random18 · 04/03/2020 15:25

We may not know numbers.

But its.going to get out on Social Media.

I don't see how it's such a big deal.

It doesn't matter where you are - you can be infected.

You either shut yourself away or get on with life taking sensible precautions.

FelicityFebruary · 04/03/2020 15:25

Ha, I too have a good reason to not join the gym.

ofwarren · 04/03/2020 15:25

10th case of #coronavirus in #Croatia

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 04/03/2020 15:27

Crunchy - I'm not even gonna consider it unless I absolutely have to, even though I know being on them could put me in the shit if I'm exposed. But yes, I have the number for my consultant if I do have to consider it. :)

Newleafinspring · 04/03/2020 15:27

To be honest, I am really disappointed. Government seems want people to live as normal as possible, don't put any extra effort on limiting big gathering etc. I guess they will only take further actions once the number has risen more. However, we already know from the Italy and other counties, our cases will increase quickly with the current strategy, why wait till more people suffer and NHS suffer. Do government think we are so lucky, there might be a chance we don't get much cases despite we have so many people just traveled back?

Oakmaiden · 04/03/2020 15:29

Interestingly, if you look at the figures for just Wuhan province: less than 13% of the population seem to have caught the virus. Now granted, this is likely to be an under-reporting of the true figure, and the fat lady has not truly sung yet, but thisngs do seem to be improving there. So even if you double (or even triple) the official figure, it is significantly below the "up to 80%" worst case scenario. The flip side is that the Chinese took measures that our government would be unwilling, and indeed probably incapable, of taking. Welding people into their homes and construction new hospitals in a week? I think not...

SouthwarkRoad · 04/03/2020 15:29

TBH the cynic in me thinks that this particular government would be nothing short of delighted if covid-19 wipes out the old and the vulnerable. More ££ for the super rich.

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 04/03/2020 15:30

D'you know, it's actually really annoying - I want to go to the gym. Haven't been for a couple of weeks now due to one health thing or another, but I'm getting married in July (corona dependant, of course) and I'm really keen to burn some crap off.

justchecking1 · 04/03/2020 15:30

just checked wales online - still only showing one case in Swansea for us

The released figures on the PHE website are only for England. Wales release theirs separately (but haven't released any today, you're right)

Awkward1 · 04/03/2020 15:30

I was concerned reading the gov doc that they said there was no treatment -fine but it didn't exactly say about giving big drugs etc....

Also
1 there are lots still critical in China so no guarantee they won't die
2 might some people choose not to be ventilated (as it could last months, in the manner of DNR)

All very well not giving a crap about everyday people but healthcare workers many of which older
A)might be killed in much higher numbers
B) won't be around after for the
C) this could change some people's career paths away from countries of employers who don't protect them.

Even if they managed to run exams the majority of kids will be traumatized (losing GP)

We have 6 over 65 years in the family. All the parents are 40+.

Also dc has had a fever since Sat evening. No cough. Hasn't been anywhere. But sister has...

Obviously dc can stay off preschool anyway. But no info on how long or if 100% ok if no cough.

middleager · 04/03/2020 15:33

Looking through one of my local news sites. This lack of cases won't last

^'There has yet to be a confirmed case of Covid-19 in either Solihull or the wider West Midlands, although the Prime Minister has warned that there could be a "significant expansion" in the number of people infected nationwide.'

RevolutionofourTime · 04/03/2020 15:33

Does anyone else think it’s odd that South Korea has twice as many cases than Italy, but half as many deaths? Does this mean

1- health care is massively better in South Korea, or
2- SK are doing more widespread testing than Italy, or
3- Italy is massively underestimating/under reporting the number of infections?

Maybe a combination of the above!
