Dr Hillary said on Lorraine this morning that it cannot be passed on to dogs because it's already jumped 1 species - bats to human - and it cannot jump again.
I don't know how true that is though.

NeckPainChairSearch · 04/03/2020 15:04

Why are they being so callous?

It's the Tory party. It's their MO.

The very worst thing the government can do at this point is risk undermining the tenuous threads of trust that people have in them.

BJ is a lying, incompetent shit at the best of times. We need to have some trust that the government is at least relaying information frankly.

I hope that this decision is clarified quickly.

AbsentmindedWoman · 04/03/2020 15:04

Higher risk than Y

Spacecadetagain · 04/03/2020 15:04

@Stircrazyschoolmum the original quarantine date in Tenerife was 10th so I think that still has to be adhered to .. at least that was my understanding

Banana0pancakes · 04/03/2020 15:04

The cynic in me thinks this lack of transparency is the govts way of ensuring this thing is kickstarted now so we get a peak in 8-12 weeks which gives them the summer to get it sorted before back into the flu season again.

Furfockssake · 04/03/2020 15:06

This won’t be over until it’s over globally. No point kick starting our epidemic at any particular point as we will still all be at risk until each country has either contained the virus (unlikely) or its gone through the global population and comes to a halt.

gladysinthepicture · 04/03/2020 15:06

just the cynic in me.....isnt it "funny" this petitions been halted for review??????????

mmmmmm

WouldShouldCould · 04/03/2020 15:06

How would you know if you had it, my neighbour is off with headache, cough and fever but not been in contact with anyone and who has it/Its not yet in our county

BiBiBirdie · 04/03/2020 15:07

@NeckPainChairSearch I said to DP earlier when he was saying he still cannot get why we didn't shut the border to jollies/non-essential travel in half term that the reason BJ didn't was because he has clearly exhausted all the eligible/old enough women to shag in the UK and now has to keep his options open abroad.
Was just trying to lighten the mood as he feels bad that over the weekend he called me hysterical and didn't but alcohol handwash and now can't get any.

FelicityFebruary · 04/03/2020 15:08

Dr Hillary can oversimplify.

(He in no way matches up to the marvelous Dr Chris who did This Morning for years!)

Stircrazyschoolmum · 04/03/2020 15:08

Ark Oval is apparently in Croydon...

Furfockssake · 04/03/2020 15:08

I’m sure I read that in a scientific paper - that globally it’s better if the virus progresses in a similar timescale. Perhaps they looked at the shitshow in the US though and wondered whether there was any point trying to contain it anymore?!

Delatron · 04/03/2020 15:09

I think the point is we are moving away from isolated cases (which I agree are low risk even if you’re in the same town) to potential clusters which will keep on growing. As per Italy.

Certain towns in Italy are fine, others have 100s of cases. This is why we need the location. You are more at risk if you are in a cluster town.

Delatron · 04/03/2020 15:10

Plus at what point are you only going to be tested if you have travelled recently? If it’s now spreading in the community then there will be local infection. I fear lots of undiagnosed cases now...

Greeniac · 04/03/2020 15:11

Jumping on to the thread to say how angry I am that we are being denied the full picture here. I want to know where clusters are developing so that I can act accordingly. Other countries are providing this information to their citizens - why is our government refusing to?

FusspotsMum · 04/03/2020 15:11

Would have signed the petition but it’s under review. How about a petition on Change.org instead?

Delurking to say thanks for the info on this thread, this is all getting surreal!

oneteen · 04/03/2020 15:12

I said yesterday the cases were being drip fed... I was informed of one case last Thursday which was released on Monday... 4 day lapse... Which could be delay in testing or maybe double testing each case..

confusedandtired99 · 04/03/2020 15:13

I also think it’s suspicious that the petition has been halted.

I’m quite angry about today’s decision to not report the locations if I’m honest. It’s going to fuel false media reports and there will be no transparency at all.

Stircrazyschoolmum · 04/03/2020 15:14

I think there’s a SW London cluster. Wimbledon College, Ashcroft, St Cecilia’s, and now Croydon and Kingston schools impacted. Lots of families away at half term skiing plus all the ski trips.

I wonder if it’s a school attendance thing not giving the locations? They don’t want parents to take their kids out??

SouthwarkRoad · 04/03/2020 15:15

Its not yet in our county

It'll be in every county by now.

NannyGoatC · 04/03/2020 15:15

If everyone digs in their local online papers, it might help build a picture.
In GetSurrey I have found 3.
Mother and father of a pupil at St Edmunds (day and flexi boarding) tested positive (head confirmed Tuesday).
Pupil Kingston Academy secondary school tested positive - confirmed in email from Head Tues.
Travel Republic employee Norbiton, Kingston tested positive.

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 04/03/2020 15:15

Petitions on the parliament site are always reviewed after five signatures. No conspiracy there Grin

RevolutionofourTime · 04/03/2020 15:16

Interesting that the location of new cases is being withheld. By contrast, in HK every new case is disclosed daily in a press release, including all relevant known whereabouts of the person, and where they live (i.e. which apartment block, not personal address). No names obviously, because of patient confidentiality.

There is an online maintained list of all places where infected people are known to have been prior to diagnosis (including hotels, churches/temples, shopping malls).

As of this week, the government has also published a list of all the addresses where people have been ordered to self quarantine (ie those who have not been diagnosed yet, but are considered at risk). That list literally contains thousands of addresses, organised by district, though I’m not sure how often it is updated.

It’s pretty informative to see how close to home some of the cases are.

And of course, schools are shut until 20 April at least. The number of cases certainly seems to be slowing down for now.🤞

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 04/03/2020 15:16

I just checked wales online - still only showing one case in Swansea for us

Wehttam · 04/03/2020 15:16

Question.

What action would you take right now if your town was deemed to have a cluster?

I’m not so sure myself what I would do. I’m contemplating cancelling my gym membership anyway until further notice and would just stick to work and home routine as long as possible. My hygiene paranoia is sky high and I avoid the sick like the... well you get the idea.
