Very sinister that they’re not longer stating the location of cases, and that they’re stopping the daily updates. Somethings being covered up....

They haven’t done this in any other country, I’m furious

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 04/03/2020 14:31

Statement on Gov.uk just landed in my work mailbox. Anyone can sign up, I think

www.gov.uk/government/news/cmo-for-england-announces-32-new-cases-of-novel-coronavirus-4-march-2020

Glittercandle · 04/03/2020 14:32

It is frustrating that we’ll only find out where the cases are once a week - perhaps they are expecting the numbers to jump greatly.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 04/03/2020 14:32

I don’t think they have said that they won’t be sharing the numbers, just the locations.

Konicek007 · 04/03/2020 14:33

Someone told me earlier today that all this Corona is something to do with the Sonic Boom we had in beginning of December..
Something blew up somewhere and they might covering it up etc....
I know it sounds like sci-fi but ........

BiBiBirdie · 04/03/2020 14:35

So how on earth can we make informed decisions if they won't say where?
This is all down to bloody cuts I bet

They are trying to manipulate this, you mark my words, why on earth would they wait a week to tell us each week when the numbers are jumping?
Absolutely disgusting. They at the very least need to inform those of us who are at risk or care for anyone at risk via our GP. It's absolutely abhorrent.

Pebble21uk · 04/03/2020 14:36

Another school and another GP surgery in Devon have shut today - making me wonder if the number has jumped from 2 down here.

User1775564212 · 04/03/2020 14:36

I’ve looked on twitter and can’t see anything bout not sharing locations/numbers?

I imagine the daily mail will be tracking it and outing locations though...

Konicek007 · 04/03/2020 14:36

in other countries they even say the exact are and age and if the person had undelying condition , here nothing..

Delatron · 04/03/2020 14:36

We have a right to know so we can adjust our behaviour. So cases in my town I would avoid shops, pull kids out of school etc.

If there’s a huge cluster in London we have a right to know that so we can avoid London. I’m supposed to be travelling there on a tube on London to a concert. Now if there’s local spread and a cluster on London I’ll lose my money and not go. If cases are spread out I will.

What are they thinking? Surely at risk groups need to know if they just need to hunker down now.

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 04/03/2020 14:37

Last sentence from that wiseup is "Regions will continue to be told as and when they have confirmed cases."

So, as long as each area reports it in local media, the national media can simply collate the info from there?

georgeggg · 04/03/2020 14:37

@User1775564212 it on the Department of Health and social cares twitter page.

Youngatheart00 · 04/03/2020 14:37

Perhaps someone should start a Gov petition. I’m sure it would get a hell of a lot of traction.

RedToothBrush · 04/03/2020 14:37

Helen Branswell @helenbranswell
1. South Korea reported another +500 #Covid19 cases today & +4 deaths. They bring the counts there to 5328 cases & 32 deaths.
That outbreak is growing steadily. No flattening apparent.

^2. Some people were asking recently about demographic breakdown of the cases in Korea. They've started publishing some in their daily updates. Scroll to the bottom of the page. No deaths in anyone

Twitter - Department of Health and Social Care

As of today, due to the number of new cases, we will no longer be tweeting information on the location of each new case.

Instead, this information will be released centrally in a consolidated format online, once a week. We are working on this now and plan to share on Friday.

Delatron · 04/03/2020 14:38

For once I want the media to do some digging!

Awkward1 · 04/03/2020 14:38

Could be from testing at the hospitals and gps.
Also they may not want the press saying these are all ones from italy... Who have now spread to students maybe. All of which could have been prevented.
But if it were say Cheltenham where they could have called it off.

SouthwarkRoad · 04/03/2020 14:39

people have their head in the sands. govt definitely covering something up here. We won't be going anywhere non essential for as long as this is happening.

Sunny360 · 04/03/2020 14:40

I feel like the british media aren’t going on about it quite as much as they were a week or two ago... maybe they’ve been told that to avoid panicking everyone? Could be just imagining that though...

georgeggg · 04/03/2020 14:40

This is what has been said about the new cases..

Worried about coronavirus part 11
BeyondMymymymyCorona · 04/03/2020 14:40

I'm guessing there is a cluster in London too, and it's not being announced to minimise effect on the economy/tourism etc.
See bojo, not informing leads to guessing, which can sometimes be worse than informed decisions...

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 04/03/2020 14:41

@pedanticstyleguide Italian universities are closed in the northern hotspots. Likewise schools.
The news that all schools are closing until 15/3 has been retracted.

FelicityFebruary · 04/03/2020 14:41

Pebble21, I am carrying a small unused hand sanitizer in my bag for just such moments.

I've decided I don't use public transport much now anyway, I have a teenager so am likely to get it , and I hope I'm young enough and daft enough for the effects to be non fatal!

FelicityFebruary · 04/03/2020 14:43

I should add I don't plan to charge, ebay style.

User1775564212 · 04/03/2020 14:43

Maybe they just mean they won’t be tweeting it, but the info will be released elsewhere
