“Today we’re announcing that people self-isolating will get Statutory Sick Pay from the first day off work. This will be included in emergency coronavirus legislation.” — PM @BorisJohnson t.co/v8rxS1oj6J

Wehttam · 04/03/2020 13:25

Jay people are shit, no use in engaging with them just keep a safe distance away from them.

Not sure if this has been posted. It's great. Update every 10 minutes and was made by a high school student!

ofwarren · 04/03/2020 13:31

I'm dreading today's update. The dread gets worse every day.
None in my county yet but that won't last forever.

undermyweather · 04/03/2020 13:31

I'd avoid that link if you're feeling anxiety around the whole thing though.

BoJoMoFo · 04/03/2020 13:32

Do you think there will be updated travel advice from Italy too? Now that they're closing all schools, surely travel advice for self isolating WITHOUT SYMPTOMS shouldn't just be from those specific lockdown areas... Especially if people have been to North Italy

Hugglespuffed · 04/03/2020 13:33

I don't think today's jump will be as much as yesterday.. I suppose time will tell though.

ofwarren · 04/03/2020 13:34

#Manchester based manufacturer PZ Cussons, which makes hygiene products from brands like Carex, says it has 'significantly increased' production of hand gel and soap to cope with 'exceptional demand' due to #coronavirus.

It says it's working at 'full capacity' to stock shops. t.co/4WSrOLkF2D

Wehttam · 04/03/2020 13:36

Bojo I hope so, how can they say it’s fine to go to Italy when the whole country is potentially affected. Their tourism industry will be decimated though. I expect France and Germany in a week or so.

does anyone else type out questions or comments and then delete them because you reread them and you sound like a mad person. asking for a friend......

BoJoMoFo · 04/03/2020 13:37

@Wehttam all the time!

SpencerReidsMistress · 04/03/2020 13:37

Keeping up with the guardian live updates too. Just seen that Italy are playing series A football games behind closed doors and the England V Italy match may be cancelled as well next week. It's unnecessary surely to play sports games and would cancel out the large gathering prospect too.

YouAreTheEggManIAmTheWalrus · 04/03/2020 13:39

I didn’t realise the WHO had raised the death rate to 3.4% yesterday. Saying also they need to ramp up PPE production by 40%.

How anyone can still be in denial about the situation is beyond me.

ringsnthings · 04/03/2020 13:41

Those looking for antibacterial gel..you can buy 5 litre container from here for £29.99 free delivery.

Economic strife incoming

Joel Hills @itvjoel
Breaking: Flybe has told the government that it is running out of cash and will not survive until the end of the month. Airline has been hit by slump in bookings since COVID-19 outbreak. FlyBe says it needs a decision on its request for taxpayer loan of £100m “in the coming days”

namechangemania · 04/03/2020 13:41

I work in a city centre and the streets are a lot quieter than usual on a lunchtime....

LarkDescending · 04/03/2020 13:41

The IOC are meeting today to discuss contingencies for the Tokyo Olympics. That press conference will be interesting. Sunk costs are in he order of $billions.

SisterAgatha · 04/03/2020 13:41

I feel quite calmed by the post earlier saying it’s likely to be widespread and that the strategy is avoiding overloaded hospitals and pushing the peak back a few months. i don’t know why, I think it makes me feel a little less out of control of the situation. If we don’t get it, great but I’m preparing that we probably will.

Anyway, I expect today’s to be quite a jump. 63?

Blueberryham · 04/03/2020 13:42

Oh gosh, 3.4% deaths rate is really bad. 1 in 30

Wehttam · 04/03/2020 13:43

Red tip of the iceberg.

BoJoMoFo · 04/03/2020 13:43

There seem to be a lot of big decisions happening today, and not before time... Schools etc in Italy and France, events being cancelled in UK, the list goes on...
