@IveGotBillsTheyreMultiplying no paper clip icon on this thread for some reason?

SunburstsOrMarbleHalls · 03/03/2020 14:41

@LittleRen yes on the Wirral.

It isn't clear if the student has been tested and had a negative result since contact with the step mum. His mum has said she will obviously do the right thing but she received a few ranty replies that she should self isolate and I felt a bit sorry for her as she is clearly just following the advice PHE have given her.

CrapTVAddict · 03/03/2020 14:41

Regarding italy there are cases increasing daily in southern italy as I have family there but this isnt being widely reported at all.
Just avoid northern Italy seems to be the advice but it's being downplayed and flights still going to Italy

KOKOagainandagain · 03/03/2020 14:44

Are WHO basically saying

that the draconian measures taken by China were unnecessary because there is no widespread community transmission by Asymptomatic and mild positive cases and the main spread is familial

OR

The measures taken by China were necessary to keep the virus spread familial rather than within the wider community

Plantherd · 03/03/2020 14:47

If a parent is self isolating or eventually caring for a positive result at home and schools remain open, will any children of theirs be told to still attend?

Im guessing all current positive cases are being transferred to specialist hospitals but soon our numbers will increase and there won't be the space. Also, as we've been told some people will only experience mild symptons.

Just wondering if anyone knows how this will be managed?

User1775564212 Could you pm that to me if possible (don’t know if it is). I’m in herts on the border of Essex so it could be very close or very far away, I just wish I knew so I could make a decision to go to town/library/swimming/karate etc!

Jrobhatch29 · 03/03/2020 14:58

What are people doing about their childrens swimming/football lessons etc? X

NebbiaZanzare · 03/03/2020 14:58

Slightly reassuring to see that Italy had no new cases

We get the daily figures for Italy after 18:00

There are new cases, seen a handful down in the heel of the boot.

Plus two magistrates in Milan. Courthouse being disinfected in certain areas.

Dusty01 · 03/03/2020 14:59

We're carrying on. They're at school all day. I don't see what the difference is.

Dusty01 · 03/03/2020 15:00

What are people doing about their childrens swimming/football lessons etc?

Sorry - was in reply to the above.

IveGotBillsTheyreMultiplying · 03/03/2020 15:01

User
Sorry I'm on an iPad and have a paperclip thingy..

SisterAgatha · 03/03/2020 15:02

At the moment I’m not doing them Jrobhatch29, I usually go to the cinema with my club once a week and I’ve not gone this week. If it is in the wild in Harlow as the papers suggest, it would be so useful to know what the numbers are like.

ofwarren · 03/03/2020 15:03

I can't believe we aren't being told the areas!
Every other country is still giving areas. How is that fair?

blinkboo · 03/03/2020 15:05

User sorry to bother you but I wonder if you can tell me if any more are in Surrey / West Sussex?

Dusty01 · 03/03/2020 15:05

My dad has heard somewhere that 10 cases have been in London. He heard this yesterday though ... I'm sure that's being kept quiet to stop panic (if it's true) and reckon that many of the new cases today are probably in London.

I imagine they especially don't want London to come to a standstill.

Motorina · 03/03/2020 15:09

That's what I was thinking. They don't seem to have tested many people between yesterdays update and todays compared.

I'm a few pages behind in my reading (can't keep up!) so apologies if this has been said. But it seems to be taking a couple of days for results to come back. These would have been from Saturday's tests, which is likely why numbers are lower.

Give it two or three days and we'll have results taken on monday, and I wouldn't be surprised if there's a jump in numbers.

MarshaBradyo · 03/03/2020 15:10

I did think it sounded low in London so far.

User1775564212 · 03/03/2020 15:13

Sorry for the DM link! There’s a map on there

manicinsomniac · 03/03/2020 15:13

South Korea are doing something very right?
How do they have over 5000 cases and so few deaths? Think it's about 0.5%!
Are they testing absolutely everyone so what we're seeing is a more accurate picture of what the disease looks like when you catch all the mild cases?
Or are they a very young population?

I'm generally all for being calm and carrying on as normal with extra precautions but i have one friend going to Spain tmrw which she only booked at the wknd and one going on a Northern Lights cruise to Norway. I wouldn't be doing either of those, I don't think. Maybe the cruise as she's been looking forward to it for a year. She's chronically disabled and ill though ...

We've had a school ski competition to Italy cancelled for next week.

georgeggg · 03/03/2020 15:15

User - that map is from yesterday, it's just added 12 unknown cases to it.

user127819 · 03/03/2020 15:16

I think South Korea are testing very widely so are picking up lots of mild cases. I believe they tested all or most of the members of that church, which had 9000 members.

I hope our government isn't going to start keeping locations secret - it will only lead to more concern and ultimately mistrust.

tigerbear · 03/03/2020 15:16

Our water has gone off, plus all our neighbours, so we can’t even wash our hands 😬We have many elderly in our little street, plus my neighbour is about a week off giving birth 🙁

halcyondays · 03/03/2020 15:19

Gov.uk has a 28 page document on the government’s plans to deal with Coronavirus. Haven’t read it all yet but am worried that so much of their plans to limit the spread seem to be get everyone to wash hands. I’m an obsessive hand washer at the best of times but there are plenty of dirty people who don’t even wash their hands after going to the toilet. It’s naive to think they’re all going to suddenly change their ways because Boris says wash your hands.

So, on the basis that some people have terrible hygiene and won’t be told, I think they really should be cancelling sporting events and anything with large crowds now rather than wait until things get worse. I’ve said this before, lots of other countries are doing it.

And strongly encouraging people to work from home if they can.
With schools, maybe they could ask pupils to stay at home if possible. Some children have a parent at home and older pupils not in exam years usually won’t need childcare. Stepping up cleaning in public places. Keeping public toilet doors propped open so you don’t have to touch the handles on your way out.
