Thanks @Bercows
Do you think there will be a mass press release or just said on TV?

Newjez · 03/03/2020 09:48

@Justaboy

I'm not a medical person, but do adults have rougher lungs than children? Could our lungs have a better surface area for the virus to stick to? A lot of adults smoke, or used to, and they have probably had their fair share of chest infections over the years.
Does that make sense or am I just rambling?

SistemaAddict · 03/03/2020 09:50

I imagine it will be announced everywhere.

Yes to the logic on lungs.

Cheeseismylife · 03/03/2020 09:55

Well shit just got real in my neck of the woods. I've nc now because this could identify my usual name to people I know.

Husband of a teacher at my kids primary school is ill and being tested for Coronavirus after being in Italy at half term. Teacher is off until test comes back.

I have just done an inventory of my food cupboards and discovered a frightening amount of stuff that I had no idea I had. I think I unintentionally have enough for for a lock down Shock

MargotB7 · 03/03/2020 09:56

Sorry not had chance to read every new message. Will we hear anything today do you think about any event restrictions?

ofwarren · 03/03/2020 09:56

Have they closed the school cheese? I bet your heart sank when you heard.

ofwarren · 03/03/2020 09:57

Should hear at half ten Margot

Wehttam · 03/03/2020 09:58

Disneyland Paris is kicking the can down the street a little longer. If contagion wasn’t a risk why did they shutter Shanghai and Hong Kong Disney? Personally I would be very wary about sending kids there at this moment in time.

WaterSheep · 03/03/2020 09:58

MargotB7

I don't believe there are plans to restrict or cancel events.

copperstrike76 · 03/03/2020 09:58

@Newjez adults have probably been exposed to more pollution, second hand smoke etc.

Re: Disneyland Paris - I'm watching this closely as we're due to go in the summer. Haven't bought tickets yet (we were actually going to get annual passes). At the moment, I wouldn't want to go, personally. The point about it being mostly outside is a load of nonsense as they do have a few rides and attractions (eg shows) that are indoors. A great deal of the catering is also buffet style, and then - as others have said - you get lots of people touching things. I think it is madness not to consider closing it and if it was a couple of weeks before our holiday, to be honest I just wouldn't go at the moment. You also cannot practice "social distancing" in a a queue, and for some rides you might be sitting with strangers.

ofwarren · 03/03/2020 10:00

I love Disney but I just couldn't go at the moment. You have to touch so much stuff to even get on a ride.
Things are touched by 1000s of people a day and are never cleaned.
Like pp said, queuing too.. shudder

Cheeseismylife · 03/03/2020 10:01

@ofwarren nope. All open as usual.
Sank is an understatement!

There are reports that Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, the British-Iranian woman detained in Iran and who is suspected to have the coronavirus, could be released from prison in Iran temporarily.

That’s according to a British Labour MP Tulip Siddiq, who tweeted: “News from Iranian Ambassador that my constituent Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe may be released on furlough today or tomorrow from prison in Iran. If this is true, Nazanin would welcome leaving Evin jail, but we’ve been here before.

“If this furlough happens, the British government have an obligation to make it permanent, and not let her be used as a bargaining chip in the weeks to come. I remain concerned that Nazanin has told her family that she has still not been tested for coronavirus.”

Today PM @BorisJohnson will hold a press conference to set out the government’s action plan to tackle the spread of coronavirus: t.co/9Y3UWUFh56

SistemaAddict · 03/03/2020 10:03

I'm not expecting any sense or sensibility at 1030. It will be all bluster and buffoonery that tells us nothing.

ofwarren · 03/03/2020 10:04

It doesn't say the time of the press conference on that link. I'm assuming it's 10:30?
I'm going to have to steal the TV back from the kids 😁

peridito · 03/03/2020 10:04

Does anyone have an idea about results of tests from the 8 hospital trusts and (?) 100 GP surgeries that are testing for coronavirus ,not based on travel but ( I think ) on symptoms ?

When did that testing start ? Do we think the gov will make the results known ?

MurrayTheMonk · 03/03/2020 10:05

Matt Hancock seemed to say this morning that if you are self isolating you are classed as sick. No plans for sick pay for staff on zero hours or contracts without sick pay. Which is nearly all of my team-I manage a care home. Very vulnerable residents. As with everything else cold and flu ish staff drag themselves into work as they can't afford to be off and my very vulnerable service users get sick. And the rest of the staff get sick. And so it goes on. This will be no different.
Except it's possibly worse in ramification than regular flu so more people will die.
So it seems pretty short sighted to not have a plan for sick pay reparations for care and other front line health workers.

The Cynical side of me thinks it would probably be quite pleasing budget wise for the government to get rid of the long term sick this way tbh...
Nothing would surprise me.

A school in the next street to my service has a confirmed case of the virus. Three of my staff are parents from that school. They are all in work this morning. I can't stop them from working. All I can do is cross my fingers and hope none of them have it.Sad

HRH2020 · 03/03/2020 10:05

Have I missed a 41st case being confirmed? Worldometers is showing +1 (but they didn't minus the doctor who was a false positive). Maybe they are all delirious with tiredness from updating!

NewYearNewTwatName · 03/03/2020 10:07

I've just been to my local supermarket. They said that they had a delivery of hand sanitizer last night, and as they tried to put it on the shelf, one person came and took every single one

What a twat. Chances are they bought them to sell on ebay.

The supermarkets really need to step in on this and either sell at the till one each, or restrict it to two per customer.

LarkDescending · 03/03/2020 10:08

HRH2020 maybe they are counting the Gibraltar case in the UK total?

Thetigeronthewobbelboard · 03/03/2020 10:11

Someone asked yesterday that I report back on my husband’s business insurer’s answer to his question about whether he would be covered by business interruption should he need to close down due to lack of staff and also pay them. I’m sorry, I can’t find the message to see who asked.

The answer was basically “we are unsure” and it would probably depend on the specific circumstances so he’s none the wiser.

Glittercandle · 03/03/2020 10:11

I’m hopeful we get some clear direction, probably wishful thinking on my part.
