Home ventilation kits are interesting. Do you think they just mean nebulisers?

ofwarren · 03/03/2020 09:02

Is this a home ventilation kit?

Wehttam · 03/03/2020 09:04

Whilst I have very very limited faith in the front mouth piece of our government, I do believe this is a swan like situation. The public faces are maintaining calm and poise whilst behind the scenes the real action is taking place and plans, counter plans and protocols are being drawn up, I imagine the forces are being briefed and are on standby should they be needed.

The cynic in me thinks BoJo is playing his typical bumbling fool act to maintain calm for as long as he can, remember many people do like him and they see his ‘character’ as endearing. He knows as well as many here do that this virus is airborne and transmitted very easily, the WHO said yesterday this was a unique pathogen with abilities never seen before.

I’m watching what they do, not really what they say.

FourTeaFallOut · 03/03/2020 09:06

Oh, so a CPAP machine?

VivaLeBeaver · 03/03/2020 09:07

Home ventilation is more of a positive pressure mask. So more than a nebuliser and will help take some of the respiratory strain but not as good as a full on, knocked out and intubated with a tube down the throat ICU ventilation.

teta · 03/03/2020 09:13

Respiratory kits, not home ventilation kits!
So, we will be expected to nurse our own families. If they become severely ill there may well not be a bed available. No so very different to Wuhan then.
The government foresee drastic measures are a few weeks off? So just in time for Easter/Exam season then. With twins doing Gcse's this year I don't know what to expect. My kids boarding school is planning for all eventualities - possible sickness in the school, isolation during exams. Easter visits home have been cancelled. So entertaining the younger ones during the holiday is crucial , so the exam students can revise.

I am trying to calm down a bit and not get to anxious but collect my grandchildren from school a few days a week and daughter is a teacher which is freaking me out a bit. Don't want to transfer my anxiety to them or not see them/ look after them but it is worrying me.

I like the pictures for the children in that article @RegalRita
I can imagine it's scary for those who aren't used to the hospital environment.

Rhapsodyinpurple · 03/03/2020 09:21

I've just been to my local supermarket. They said that they had a delivery of hand sanitizer last night, and as they tried to put it on the shelf, one person came and took every single one.

tinytemper66 · 03/03/2020 09:21

Lots of schools in Wakes are due to go to Euro Disney this weekend to celebrate St David's day, as they di every year, but no advice has been give as of yet. French school trips outside of France have been cancelled. Hopefully the update today will give clarity.

EgonSpengler2020 · 03/03/2020 09:27

With regard to the number of cases in children, China are current rolling out large scale serology test of the population to look for Covid19 antibodies (and therefore cases that were never diagnosed but have now recovered). This will show whether children are catching it but having it mildly and therefore would have been a risk of spreading it if schools had remained open in China, or if children just aren't that at risk of catching it compared to adults.

The data from these studies will then we able to better inform the need for school closures.

Problem is we could do with this data now not in a few weeks or months.

Robuns · 03/03/2020 09:30

@Rhapsodyinpurple doesn't surprise me, you would hope that they would have limited them though, perhaps have them behind the till and offer everyone one if they want to buy one.

Delatron · 03/03/2020 09:31

That would be an interesting study. I think the key is are kids getting it very mildly or are they just not getting it at all for some reason.

LangClegsInSpace · 03/03/2020 09:33

Police are investigating an attack in central London on a Singaporean student who says he had to go to hospital after being targeted by a group of people who shouted about the coronavirus being beating him up.

Disneyland Paris is currently exempt from the new rule about more than 5000 people together as they’ve argued that it’s mainly outside, people aren’t confined together, and on rides there aren’t 5000 people at once. However it has been raised here that this is perhaps not okay... I wouldn’t let mine go to be honest. Imagine how much has been touched, coughed on, sneezed on etc. But in principle it’s still open and we’re still allowed on trips there as it’s not one of the infection clusters.

Justaboy · 03/03/2020 09:37

They said that they had a delivery of hand sanitizer last night, and as they tried to put it on the shelf, one person came and took every single one.

Well they should ration it out as they will have to before much longer!..

Justaboy · 03/03/2020 09:39

I think the key is are kids getting it very mildly or are they just not getting it at all for some reason.

All the evidence from most medical journals such as The Lancet say that most under 20 don't seem that badley affected, or the ilness uptake in that age band is very low.

BUT us wrinklies of 60 upwards differnt matter:(

@LangClegsInSpace

I can't imagine an easier way to catch the virus that beating someone up who has it. I imagine there is quite a DNA transfer when someone gets beaten up.
