A colleague says that Spring clearly she's never had the flu.

I've only had flu once in 47 years. I was a healthy 39 year old and it was awful and really knocked me about upon recovery after more than a week.

If I had been my asthmatic son or elderly parents, not sure how I would have fared.

SistemaAddict · 03/03/2020 08:06

I had flu twice as a child. Horrendous. I remember struggling to breathe at night and being scared.

Heebeejeebie · 03/03/2020 08:07

Why are the press still saying 39 when the WHO dashboard has us on 43?

NotJustACigar · 03/03/2020 08:09

So awful that protestors on Réunion were tear gassed and forced to let cruise ship tourists go out on excursions in the island. They're just trying to protect themselves - no cases on the island so far and they want to be allowed to try to keep it that way. Social distancing can only work if massive numbers of overseas visitors aren't forced on you.

EenyMeenyMinyNo · 03/03/2020 08:09

I think anyone holding out that this plan will be anything short of more inept platitudes may be extremely disappointed. I have no faith whatsoever that it will be anything substantial -but I very much hope i am wrong!

userxx · 03/03/2020 08:09

@unluckyagain I would not have a business to return to if I had to take two weeks off.

NotJustACigar · 03/03/2020 08:11

I think the "plans" will be a damp squib designed mostly to protect the economy and won't be precautionary enough to allow for containment. Yesterday's relatively low number of cases will be used to justify doing next to nothing.

RedToothBrush · 03/03/2020 08:12

Of course they will be a damp squib.

You can't expect anything else from a 6 point plan.

IveGotBillsTheyreMultiplying · 03/03/2020 08:13

Matt Hancock on r4 live.

ChipotleBlessing · 03/03/2020 08:16

The thing with delaying the plan is, it’s all very well for Cabinet to say ‘right universal credit will effectively become a minimum income guarantee for the period of the outbreak’, but actually if they haven’t checked with the people who run the system how soon it’s going to be operationally possible then it just won’t work. And there could be dozens of things like that that need checking.

WaterSheep · 03/03/2020 08:18

I agree the plans will be nothing special. However i'm hoping they provide more clarity on sick pay for the zero hours / gig economy, and information for those on benefits regarding meetings / no sanctions. As this will encourage those who need to self isolate to do so, without fear of being left without money coming in.

ofwarren · 03/03/2020 08:19

Can someone update with "the plan" if it's said on TV first?
I'm not allowed the TV in the morning... (Bloody Cbeebies)

Hancock r4today: Gov buying 'respiratory kits' for use at home....

IveGotBillsTheyreMultiplying · 03/03/2020 08:24

Hancock 'weeks away from closing schools' even in worst case scenario

ofwarren · 03/03/2020 08:24

What's in a respiratory kit? Are they saying people will be on oxygen at home?

ofwarren · 03/03/2020 08:26

Let's face it, they are not going to close schools. Just odd ones with a few cases in as it gets worse I reckon.

IveGotBillsTheyreMultiplying · 03/03/2020 08:26

He didn't elaborate and wasn't pushed on detail. Oxygen can be dangerous in the wrong amounts for people with some types of préexistence lung disease.

AvocadoOwl · 03/03/2020 08:27

That is awful! Reunion's economy is very heavily reliant on tourism though; they are between the devil and the deep blue sea when it comes to visitors.

They already routinely receive financial aid from France and have issues with the rich/poor divide so I suspect blocking tourists simply isn't a viable or sustainable option Sad

IveGotBillsTheyreMultiplying · 03/03/2020 08:27

Preexisting-sorry just broke into French with autocorrect.

IveGotBillsTheyreMultiplying · 03/03/2020 08:28

Respiratory kits...hmm maybe they've got some bellows. Make do and mendConfused?

ofwarren · 03/03/2020 08:32

South Korea confirms 374 new cases of coronavirus; total of 5,186 cases t.co/eUoE2b20hL

given the efficiency they have demonstrated on rolling the basic UC out, the delays and the mistakes and the 5 week waiting for any money, this does not fill me with great confidence

usernameishistory · 03/03/2020 08:45

Legislation states self isolation is 'sick'

However, theres less and less told to do that now it seems, as even you've been exposed to a returner some here have not had the self-isolation advice from 111.

Confused

I have had a bad cough for over a week now. It was a really weird cold. Thought it was coming for about a week. Then felt ill one evening, light headed, went to bed and woke up with full blown cold. Sick with cold and fever for three days, and then it lifts, but left with this nagging cough.

Funny thing is, I've been unemployed for five weeks and have had very little contact with anyone. Two interviews, face to face over a desk, and my DWP work coach had a stinking cold, bit of shopping but I kept my distance and sterilised. No idea how I caught it.
The cough can be hacking, and I have noticed people slowly moving away from me if I'm in the shops or anywhere public.

I'm going out tonight, traveling on a train, but I don't think I would feel comfortable in a mask. I may take one just in case.

"He said the number of home ventilation kits are being expanded and that “the NHS, I am sure, will rise to the challenge” of dealing with the coronavirus outbreak."

Home ventilation kits???
