Conflict in the Middle East

Netanyahu must win today. Israel can’t afford a weak leader right now.

It’s crazy how much pure hatred gets thrown at Netanyahu from every direction, more than any other current leader even Putin, but the idea that Israel must get rid of him to rebuild its standing in the international community is absurd IMO.

You can't run a country surrounded by hostile Arab states, who hope for your annihilation, by trying to be politically correct or try to please Western governments (to appease their own electorates) who have no idea what Israel has to deal with. They only understand strength, not weakness.

Say what you want about his politics but the guy has serious balls and does not back down.

No other leader in Israel, or any other world leader for that matter, has his level of experience when it comes to dealing with terrorism and national security. He’s been managing these existential threats for decades while other politicians just talk.

If you actually research the corruption charges it's obvious they are a politically motivated stitch-up by a left wing establishment that invented a bizarre legal theory about "media coverage" just to oust a leader they couldn't beat in elections.

It's exactly why he needs to stay in power and finish the job. He is the only one who refuses to fall for the fantasy of a 2 state solution, which is completely dead in the water after Oct 7th. Any backing down to the Palestinians now would be absolute suicide.

He literally built Israel's massive tech economy and proved with the Abraham Accords that strength gets results.

My genuine worry if he loses today is that whoever takes over will be way too soft and cave to international pressure on a Palestinian State and on Iran.

If Israel softens its stance, the pressure on Iran and Hamas drops completely and it leaves ordinary Iranian and Gazan people trapped with zero hope.

In a brutal neighborhood you need a strong, tested leader.

As Golda Meir said - "If we have to have a choice between being dead and pitied, and being alive with a bad image, we’d rather be alive and have the bad image."

The left wing establishment? Really? Any left wing party in that country harnessed my notice, let alone an establishment.

MyManinCaracas · Today 01:38

I hope he gets sunk. He’s a warmonger and responsible for the deaths of millions.

gullgal · Today 02:10

I hope he loses and then gets brought before the ICC and tried for war crimes.

thestudio · Today 02:35

It’s Netanyahu himself who has caused the unprecedented current hostility to Israel.

Useraxiomak1 · Today 02:47

Netanyahu needs to go and hopefully end up in prison on corruption charges. That’s aside from his war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Very odd to be advocating for a foreign leader to win an election on here? What’s it got to do with MN…strange that it’s seen as a place to move the needle on Israeli politics.

Twiglets1 · Today 04:14

Cannot agree with you on this @IsraelNeedsBibi

In my opinion a change of leadership is due and in particular the new leader needs to kick the religious extremists in the current coalition government out of bed.

I would like to see a more centrist leader. They will still be strong on security- all the opposition leaders are.

Not really. It’s the Conflict in the Middle East board where foreign leaders are often discussed, particularly Netanyahu & Trump.

You clearly missed the American elections then? Everyone had an opinion on MN and hoped Trump wouldn’t win, I see no difference here.

Sure, if you are happy with Israel becoming even more of a global pariah than it already is.

Read this in the Independent this morning. Such a moral man.

“But for Netanyahu, the stakes extend far beyond merely remaining in office, as losing power would likely remove the institutional buffer shielding him from imminent criminal accountability, directly exposing him to the prospect of jail time.
At present, he remains in the dock across three separate criminal cases— known as Cases 1000, 2000, and 4000 — on charges of bribery, fraud, and breach of trust.
The trial, dragging on in the Jerusalem District Court since May 2020, details alleged kickbacks including regulatory favours handed to media moguls in exchange for flattering coverage, balanced out by steady deliveries of luxury cigars and champagne from billionaire patrons.
Under Israeli law, a conviction for bribery carries a potential prison sentence of up to 10 years, while fraud and breach of trust carry maximum three-year terms.
Netanyahu has decried the entire apparatus of state prosecutors and judges as a left-wing “witch-hunt”. But while his pre-war push to dismantle the judiciary was once sold as constitutional reform, it is now widely seen as an emergency exit from a potential jail sentence. ”

Unprecedented?

Well - I'd say he's a war criminal and he needs to face a trial. I'm not bothered about his balls. How is constantly being at war helping the Israeli people exactly?

trumpredcard · Today 06:24

@IsraelNeedsBibi I totally agree with you. Yes, I do!

In fact I agree so much that I think Bibi should be cloned. Several times. So Israel can continue under his governance in perpetuity.

Failing that, Bibi needs to talk to Elon and the tech bros about all the anti-aging, life lengthening stuff they're funding and experimenting with.

Or Bibi could go all sci-fi and have his head detached and preserved so he can still run the country even after his body dies.

You in to start a crowdfunder for Bibi's head?

Oooh, we could crowdfund to preserve Bibi's balls instead!

Funnywonder · Today 06:53

Rage bait. OP won’t be back.

Ihatetomatoes · Today 08:23

I don't know much about Israeli politics so not sure who the parties or candidates are.

I hope the people of Israel elect someone who can stand up for their country whilst building peaceful solutions.

Newbutoldfather · Today 08:26

I don’t think many will agree with that, not least in Israel.

Another Bibi term would mean the final nail in the coffin of Isreal as a civilised liberal democracy.

The emigration/immigration statistics in Israel under Bibi are frightening. The educated Middle Ages middle class are leaving in droves to be replaced by fundamentalist settlers.

It will be a long way from the Jewish homeland if this continues.

CurlewKate · Today 08:27

Genuine interest. Where did you see the info about the fundies moving in ? I take it you mean it's the secular that are leaving ?

Not disputing what you are saying, it would be interesting to see the numbers and the stories.

Popstarrrrr · Today 08:52

Can't agree with you OP. The sooner Netanyahu, Trump and to some extent Putin fuck right off, the sooner we all have a chance. Small dick syndrome at its finest, all of them.

Popstarrrrr · Today 08:54

And there are other world leaders who would also benefit from fucking off, but generally the hell and mayhem they cause is contained within their countries and not played out on the world stage. But they're equally cunts.
