Conflict in the Middle East

Bloody religion, it's gonna end us all.
Oh for a secular world

Amen to that (said ironically)

Twiglets1 · 20/04/2026 13:11

I hope this reassures you a bit @childlessbutconcerned

Benjamin Netanyahu has rebuked the Israeli soldier who struck a fallen statue of Jesus Christ on the cross with a sledgehammer in southern Lebanon.

He wrote on X: “Yesterday, like the overwhelming majority of Israelis, I was stunned and saddened to learn that an IDF soldier damaged a Catholic religious icon in southern Lebanon.

“I condemn the act in the strongest terms. Military authorities are conducting a criminal probe of the matter and will take appropriately harsh disciplinary action against the offender.”

He actually sounds more concerned about the statue bashing than WB violence.

That's a bit of criticism of Israel from a 'pro- Israeli' poster for those who are interested.

Gotta be honest, appropriately harsh disciplinary action doesn't sound good.

Yes, disgraceful actions by an individual.
Good on the IDF for investigating, communicating their findings and pledging to assist the community in restoring the statue.

Indeed, someone saw it spoke out about it and action taken. As is correct. It gets it's own thread though.which will probably generate more comments of condemnation than the thread about Hamas shooting it's own people in the street (who they labelled traitors or opposition) when the ceasefire was agreed. Interesting.

That's because his concern isn't real. He doesn't care about Christians and their statues. He is worried about losing US support and a lot of US support is rooted in Evangelical Christianity and for some reason they care more about a statues head being bashed in than they do people's heads being bashed in.

Saying whoopsie we will fix the statue is no loss to him, stopping the violence towards Christians in the West Bank would make it harder for that land to become Jewish which is his dream so obviously he isn't going to do that.

For once I 100% agree ☺️

Jesus loves us ALL despite our many faults.

Jesus isnt a racist and doesn't exceptionalise any one race.

😉

exactly, He forgives all the bullshit all races and people from history did, do and will do and grant them salvation when they repent

Better just hope you're not in for a sudden and completely unexpected death eh

this is why faith is individual business. My faith is decided on which side, so that is that. Hopefully this thread evangelises other people who need it

BeFunnyBiscuit · 20/04/2026 12:19

and yet, and still: Jesus is coming on the Mount of Olives to rule for a 1000 years period from Jerusalem ...<??> so He must love them despite their many faults

'Them'? Jesus was Jew! They are his people.

I'm a Christian and was saved by that particular Jew - I love the people of Israel. We are all deeply flawed, yet Jesus loves each and every one of us.

Yes. I expect the same specific wording as so many pro-Israeli posters expect from everyone else.

@childlessbutconcerned , that’s absolutely hilarious, please show me where a ‘pro-Israeli’ (interesting turn of phrase indicating that you feel you must be on one side or the other) poster has demanded the word sacked should be used in a response from Hamas, Iran or Lebanon?

quantumbutterfly · 20/04/2026 18:41

I suppose if you were Christian you might ask yourself 'what would Jesus do?', and the answer would give you great insight.
I like to think he's not representative of all Israelis or for that matter all those who claim Jewish faith or ethnicity, obviously some opinions vary about that.

'What would Jesus do' is one of my favorite thought experiments ever.

Here's another useful one-

If you hate soldiers in the IDF more than you hate soldiers in the Russian army, and you spend significantly more time thinking and posting about IDF behavior than Russian soldier behavior, then you might have a problem.

HeadDeskHeadDesk · 20/04/2026 18:51

childlessbutconcerned · 20/04/2026 08:29

Would you say the same if it was an opposing army damaging Jewish statues?

Do you think the opposing 'army' doesn't?

cantgardenintherain · 21/04/2026 09:17

What Jesus wouldn’t do is use IDF soldiers to sexual assault women as a war weapon in the West Bank.

Would you also condemn Hamas using rape as a weapon of war against Israeli women, and the abuse of women in Gaza by Palestinian men who demand sexual acts in return for food or money?

People have and do condemn Hamas, good to see you view the acts of the IDF as equal in depravity to those of Hamas

I really suspect that pp doesn't view this chap breaking a statue as representative of all IDF members or equivalent to the excesses of hamas, but your world view differs I guess.

From my readings I suspect he wasn't a big fan of weaponising faith for violence, he'd probably be surprised that he started a religion too.

dairydebris · 21/04/2026 10:08

Of course. I unequivocally condemn all acts of abuse by military personnel against civilians in particular. I do so frequently on here. Do you think most people who post in defence of Israel / Jewish people on here condone the crimes of some Israelis and IDF in the WB? If so I've no idea why you think that, I've never once seen a poster condone it.

What is do see here is frequent exceptionalisation of the IDF- this thread is a great example. Literally every army ever destroys statues. It's rarely deemed worth a mention ( understandably I feel- who cares about a statue with all the other shit going on? I don't. )

Once again. If you care more about what the IDF is doing than what other soldiers all over the globe are doing, if you think of it often and post often in hatred of the IDF, Israelis, Zionists etc whatever you want to call it, if you have visceral feelings of hatred that you don't have for other groups committing similar or worse crimes, you may want to examine within yourself why this might be.

raisinglittlepeople12 · 21/04/2026 10:12

I mean they’re also harming kids on purpose so this isn’t the worst of it.

maudelovesharold · 21/04/2026 10:20

When the IDF investigates its own deviant behaviour, it usually ends up being completely exonerated. This will become a ‘non-incident’ in no time at all. Like so many others.
