Chilling. Thank you for posting, but as a reminder this crack down on protesters is in response to the US & Israeli attacks. It isn’t the cause of the attacks or a factor that can be used to retroactively justify the attacks.

The protests referred to are the ones in January before the war.

Shocked that you would deny the murderous actions of the IRGC towards their own people.

You appear to be minimising their behaviour by attempting to blame Israel but the brutal suppression by the IRGC of their own people protesting against the regime was their own responsibility.

The misinformation on this thread, as on others, is just ridiculous. 'This crackdown' began on 28 December 2025, not as a response to the US and Israeli attacks on 28 February. There have been supportive rallies on behalf of the ordinary, mostly young, Iranians who have been 'cracked down' upon outside the Iranian Embassy in London and elsewhere on a regular basis ever since.

Yet again denying the agency of the Iranian people. Noone with any credibility believes that the protests are anything other than an authentic response to 40 odd years of repression, combined with the collapsing economic situation for ordinary Iranians. When your own government shoots you in the eye for refusing to wear a hijab you don't need external influence.
the posts on here are absolutely fucking shameful.

The Iranian regime thinks that the protests are not authentic but caused by US/Israeli paid agitators.

The unprovoked, illegal attacks by the US/Israel in 2024 and 2025 and now 2026 have made the Iranian regime (who you rightly referred to as religious lunatics to begin with) even more paranoid and convinced the US/Israel are behind the protests so their response to protesters has been progressively more harsh.

This is fact.

It is also not wild a conspiracy theory because the US did in fact stage a coup in 1953 in Iran which did involve the CIA and UK SIS organising protests and turning the army against the democratically elected president of then Iran

But after the 2024 and 2025 attacks on Iran.
I am not denying the murderous actions of the IGRC in the slightest or blaming Israel.
Please read the history of Iran and try to comprehend the fact that foreign attacks do affect how a government responds to civil unrest.

In the post above you are quoting them as saying the protests were not authentic. Like you believe them.

What on earth are you saying? The Islamic regime's repression of its citizens is its whole mo. Forcing women to cover their hair has fuck all to do with anyone outside Iran.

@IrishSelkie While there may well be a 'thriving black market for unlicensed guns' in Iran (especially since the war began a month ago), g-d help anyone who tries to buy or use one.
From saf.org/gun-control-in-iran:
'Since they lack a constitution, Iranians have no right to own firearms. For a civilian to legally purchase a handgun, a licence was needed (during the previous Ayatollah's administration).Officially, the process included a permit from the local police, a criminal records check, military service checks, a psychological exam and successful completion of state safety training and testing. It was estimated that only 3% to 7% of all applications were approved.
Only this small number of licensees were legally allowed to purchase and possess ammunition. In May 2025, long time Iranian President Pezeshkian ordered even harsher criminal sentences for unlicensed firearm possession and for the use of digital platforms to arrange private sales.'

There have been supportive rallies on behalf of the ordinary, mostly young, Iranians who have been 'cracked down' upon outside the Iranian Embassy in London and elsewhere on a regular basis ever since.

And 28 December 2025 is after the many US & Israeli attacks of 2024 and 2025:

On 1 April 2024, Israel bombed an Iranian consulate complex in Damascus, Syria, killing multiple senior Iranian officials including a woman and her son, and Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a senior Quds Force commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and seven other IRGC officers, in addition to six other militants belonging to Hezbollah and other Iranian supported groups.

On 19 April 2024 Israel struck the Iranian air defense radar site protecting the Natanz nuclear facility destroying it.

On 13 July 2024 Israel struck a residential apartment building in Tehran, capital of Iran, assassinating Hamas’ political leader Ismail Haniyeh

On 26 October 2024, Israel carried out strikes on 20 locations in Iran as part of Operation Days of Repentance. It was the largest attack on Iran since the Iran-Iraq War. According to U.S. officials, Israel targeted critical components of Iran's ballistic missile infrastructure, destroying 12 planetary mixers essential for producing solid-fuel missiles. Thus crippling Iran's capability to replenish its missile stockpile. U.S. officials added that it would take Iran at least a year to resume its missile production.[1] U.S. and Israeli officials said that most of Iran's air defense network, including nearly all of its advanced S-300 systems, were destroyed.

On 13 June 2025, the conflict escalated into the armed conflict between Israel and Iran, when Israel launched a surprise attack targeting key Iranian military and nuclear facilities.[34][35] The opening hours of the war saw targeted assassinationsand attempted assassinations of Iran's top military leaders, nuclear scientists

On 22 June 2025, The United States, which had been defending Israel since the beginning of the war by shooting down Iranian missiles and drones, took offensive action by striking three Iranian nuclear sites

On 24 June 2025– After 12 days of fighting, a US-brokered ceasefire takes effect between Iran and Israel, ending all hostilities. Iran says at least 610 of its citizens were killed in the war, while Israel claimed 28 were killed on its side.

Crackdown starts on 12 August 2025- Iranian police arrest as many as 21,000 people related to the 12-day war with Israel, according to state media.

This link shows the progress of the nuclear talks in February 2026 up to the surprise attacks of 28 February 2026 https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2026/2/28/us-israel-bomb-iran-a-timeline-of-talks-and-threats-leading-up-to-attacks.

February 6 – Iran and the US begin indirect nuclear negotiations in Geneva, mediated by Oman, with the aim of reaching a deal to curb Tehran’s nuclear programme.
February 17 – High-level US–Iran nuclear talks resume in Geneva, again with Omani mediation.
February 22 – Oman confirms another round of discussions in Geneva, describing a “positive push” but admits that significant differences remain.
February 26 – A third round of nuclear talks concludes in Geneva, with mediator Oman saying “significant progress” was made and more discussions would be held the following week in Vienna.
February 27 – Oman’s foreign minister says Iran has agreed to degrade its current stockpiles of nuclear material to “the lowest level possible” — effectively to unrefined levels. US President Donald Trump says he prefers diplomacy but warns that “all options” remain available if diplomacy fails.
February 28 – Israel launches coordinated strikes on Iranian targets, including sites in and around Tehran. Iran retaliates by launching air and missile strikes across the region, including Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Kuwait.

What on earth are you saying? The Islamic regime's repression of its citizens is its whole mo. Forcing women to cover their hair has fuck all to do with anyone outside Iran.

Many human rights experts have pointed out that the attacks on Iran have resulted in Iran’s oppression becoming more brutal in response.

https://www.hrw.org/news/2026/02/04/iran-human-rights-situation-spirals-deeper-into-crisis

For example, the 12 days bombing from 22-24 June 2025 directly caused a subsequent wave of 21,000 arrests.

The attacks are not helping ordinary Iranians, they are causing the Iranian regime to double down on the people.

Family members of people on death row gather outside the judiciary building in Tehran, Iran, May 24, 2023, holding signs that read “no to executions.”

Iran: Human Rights Situation Spirals Deeper into Crisis

Iranian authorities carried out executions on a scale unseen since the late 1980s, conducted mass and arbitrary arrests, and ratcheted up repression, especially following the June armed conflict with Israel and under the guise of national security, in...

Yes. Not sure what point you’re trying to make by posting an uncontested fact.

Correct.

However, the US and Israel are not helping Iranians by attacking Iran.

Justifying a war on the basis of Iran’s oppressive regime with the aim to topple it and free Iranians implies that the war is going to topple the regime and free Iranians.

Instead it is failing to topple the regime and making Iranians even less free and more oppressed,

So logically, some other means must be found to reach the objective of a free Iran because bombing the country is literally counterproductive.

No judgement on whatever they do then because you are merely reporting on things from their point of view?

We have no reason to believe them that the protesters are not authentic, the testimony of Iranians seems pretty authentic to me.

Which comes back to choosing who to believe - the IRGC or the protesters.

An alleged or acknowledged proxy of Iran bombing Israel is not considered a direct act of war against Israel. It is not considered sufficient cause to directly attack.

If law worked that way, then the UK has been bombing Russia since 2014, so Russia would then have every right to bomb London.

It is only direct attacks that count as acts of war between countries.

We do have reason to believe the Iranian regime are thinking the protesters are being emboldened by US interference due to the recent history of the US having done it, in Iran, to overthrow the government of Iran.

The testimony of Iranians does not contradict this, in fact it corroborates that the regime are cracking down on Iranian protesters with accusations that protesters are spying for or paid by Israel or the US. Please note that Israel is the proxy of the US.
https://www.iranintl.com/en/202506250530

“Iranian intelligence forces have arrested more than 700 Iranians accused of acting as agents for Israel over the past 12 days, the IRGC-affiliated Fars News Agency reported on Tuesday.
According to the report, the arrests targeted what authorities described as an “active espionage and sabotage network” that intensified operations after Israel’s attack on June 12, which killed several senior Iranian military and nuclear figures.”

Iran executions for Israel spying since the June 2025 war have increased sharply, with multiple individuals put to death over alleged links to Mossad operations. (Six in detail)

That may well be true but, as far as Israelis who have suffered from these attacks are concerned, they know that Iran is the one behind the terrorist attacks. They pay and arm their proxies. There would be no war between the terrorists and the state of Israel without Iran's actions.

Yes. And similar to that, Iran knows that the US is the one funding and arming Israel. There would be no war between Iran and the US if both of their proxies had not been sent after each other.

So the UK has been attacking Russia via Ukraine since 2014, even though Ukraine wasn’t actually attacking Russian territory in 2014?
Unlike Russia, who seized part of Ukrainian territory in 2014.
