Conflict in the Middle East

I need to say this out loud

As a British citizen I am disgusted in the utter cowardice of my own government at the moment. If you are an American citizen please believe that there are people in the UK who have no respect for the way we are distancing ourselves from what is happening in the Middle East.
Your government has backbone and courage and wants to do the right thing for all our children’s futures.
I applaud Trump for standing up for his country, military, citizens of Iran…the world, and he doesn't care who he might offend in doing so.
It’s such a pity the same can’t be said for our ‘leader’. I am actually ashamed of my country at this moment in time. I truly hope this changes over the coming days/weeks.

Chances that the OP has a loved one serving in the armed forces?

For the first time I’m with Kier on this one! Definitely the right sort of measured response we need right now. We need peace and for the law to be respected otherwise anything goes.

All the world can do is try to hunker down and get through this period of lunacy without further escalation. I would like to hope even Russia and China see that. For the first time it feels like America is now a very real threat to the whole world.

ThereAreOnlyShadesOfGrey · 02/03/2026 19:28

Personally I’m disgusted in this government for opening up our air bases to this lunatic.

And all the virtue signallers going on about how this is freedom from oppression for the women of Iran.

Anyone who thinks this is going to make a blind bit of difference is delusional.

The regime has remained untouched. Besides which, when was there ever an Islamic country who gave women a fair break?

This is Iraq all over again. Look how well that turned out.

ReturnofthePan · 02/03/2026 19:28

This is a proxy war for Isreal. It’s as plain as that. Nobody gains from this. Apart from the murderous regime in Isreal.

@Twiglets1 Regarding Cyprus, I think the previous poster had caught this statement:

The Americans have moved most of their aircraft to Cyprus. We will launch missiles at Cyprus with such intensity that the Americans will be forced to leave the island”.

Cyprus Mail attributes it to Revolutionary Guard General Sardar Jabbari today, Monday 1st March.

Thanks. That was what I was trying to attach.

Starmers already gone too far allowing the US and Israel to use the army bases. He needs to grow a backbone.

redboxer321 · 02/03/2026 19:36

OP has not been back. What a surprise.

The same Iran that was caught about to launch a terrorist attack in London and was behind 20 others.

The problem is that after decades of peace and no major wars the Western population has forgotten that there are countries out that would like to attack you.

100% this

Sounds a nonsense.

But if the Iranian state-affiliated media said it, it must be true - eh?

Why are you scaremongering by taking what the Iranian state media say about Cyprus and repeating it like it's fact?

Do you also believe them that only about 3,000 Iranian protestors got killed by their own regime?

GoBazGo · 02/03/2026 19:55

Does OP actually think Trump gives a monkeys about Iranian people’s civil rights? The only thing he cares about is $$.

If Iran had no resources worth plummeting they wouldn’t be waging war.

I am not scaremongering. I am simply stating what was reported in the Cyprus Mail.

There is no need to be so condescending.

PersimmonsAreNotTheOnlyFruit · 02/03/2026 20:00

Will you still feel the same way when millions of displaced people are leaving the middle east and spreading across Europe looking for places of refuge?

Mercurial123 · 02/03/2026 20:04

This is why we shouldn't be involved

Why you supporting a Paedophile?

Do you evidence or a link to back up this allegation or are you simply hoping to throw out any old made up shit in the hope that if it gets repeated enough maybe some of it will stick.

Well as a British citizen, I am glad we haven't just jumped in and started dropping bombs just because America has told us to. Have we not learnt any lessons from previous wars in the Middle East?

This. 100%.

Actually we all gain from closing down the biggest state sponsor of terrorism in the world.

heartsinvisiblefury · 02/03/2026 20:18

I think following that clown in the US is ridiculous and I think Starmer is right to hold back.

MMBaranova · 02/03/2026 20:19

The statement about Cyprus from Jabbari can easily be found on other sources. For instance this fresh X anti-Trump account which has video of it.

Now of course it can be a hyperbolic threat. It has been said though, and is part of the discourse, or shouting match.

I need to say this out loud
tipsyraven · 02/03/2026 20:20

I’m no fan of Starmer but he has got this right.

Shouldgivethisup · 02/03/2026 20:30

You are MTG and I claim my ten bucks. Loony.
