Conflict in the Middle East

I need to say this out loud

As a British citizen I am disgusted in the utter cowardice of my own government at the moment. If you are an American citizen please believe that there are people in the UK who have no respect for the way we are distancing ourselves from what is happening in the Middle East.
Your government has backbone and courage and wants to do the right thing for all our children’s futures.
I applaud Trump for standing up for his country, military, citizens of Iran…the world, and he doesn't care who he might offend in doing so.
It’s such a pity the same can’t be said for our ‘leader’. I am actually ashamed of my country at this moment in time. I truly hope this changes over the coming days/weeks.

I'm not sure what circles you are in that think Trump chumming up with Israel and starting a war is a rational thing to do but it is certainly what very few British think.

HappyFace2025 · 02/03/2026 18:42

If you need to ask that you must have been blind to what the Iranian regime has been doing for more years than I can remember,
both to their own citizens and by exporting terror throughout the ME and elsewhere, including the UK where only last year 20 terrorist attacks were foiled. That was reported yesterday.

What comes next ain’t gonna be different. He didn’t save Iranians from anything.

AmandaBrotzman · 02/03/2026 18:22

What possible good do you foresee coming from trump's attack on Iran? For the Iranian people or any other part of the world?

This x 1000

Eyesopenwideawake · 02/03/2026 18:20

Totally disagree. I think the UK should align with the Spanish, who have unequivocally told Trump to fuck off.

Ahh - Spain that spends 1.24% of its budget on defence yet still wants to benefit from the protection of NATO. Maybe NATO should tell them to fuck off.

feellikeanalien · 02/03/2026 19:10

Well it hasn't worked. The Iranians are now threatening to carpet bomb Cyprus.

Lilimoon · 02/03/2026 19:10

Hard disagree OP.

Most Iranians are delighted.

Coldtoots · 02/03/2026 19:11

Is writing a post on an anonymous chat forum really saying something “out loud”?! @simplesimoneatspie

No.

Twiglets1 · 02/03/2026 19:12

Eyesopenwideawake · 02/03/2026 19:00

Why? I mean, I'm glad you want to be part of the EU but every state has the right to its own stance on exactly how far up Trump's rectum they want to crawl.

Because that's how I feel. I like being European and am glad that the UK government position is in line with most other European leaders.

In this war the countries allied with the UK have tended to condemn the Iranian regime - for example, the US/Israel/Australia/Canada/most of Europe.

Would rather be on that side than the side of Iran and Russia, etc.

Are you going to ask me Why again?

safetyfreak · 02/03/2026 19:12

You know what, it doesn't matter as we are dragged into it now.

I am so worried about gas and fuel prices going up because of this stupid war. I just want them to take over Iran and get the pipeline moving again.

You don't realise how F we are.

LaurieFairyCake · 02/03/2026 19:12

Trumps a fucking moron, he’s a total fucking cunt

1dayatatime · 02/03/2026 19:13

The same Iran that was caught about to launch a terrorist attack in London and was behind 20 others.

The problem is that after decades of peace and no major wars the Western population has forgotten that there are countries out that would like to attack you.

Twiglets1 · 02/03/2026 19:15

feellikeanalien · 02/03/2026 19:10

Well it hasn't worked. The Iranians are now threatening to carpet bomb Cyprus.

Do you have a source for that?

I have not read anywhere that Iran are threatening to carpet bomb Cyprus.

Khameini was an evil piece of shite and the Iranian regime as a whole is appalling, but bombing the crap out of a regime’s leaders is still a blatant violation of international law and will achieve nothing. Both Trump and Netanyahu are very good at pretending international law doesn’t apply to them - it’s something they both have in common with the Iranians (and the Russians, and North Korea…). US meddling in international politics just about always goes pear-shaped, and is seldom done for the sake of the local oppressed population. In this case follow the oil. Or Trump’s hurt feelings about not getting the Nobel Prize. Don’t be naive.
Our goods friends have family in Tehran, there’s been no contact for three days. I’m thinking of them right now.

This

ObsessiveGoogler · 02/03/2026 18:31

Military action wasn’t even sanctioned by congress let alone other processes within the international community. Even with Iraq there were concerted attempts at getting other countries and the UN on board and it was still a sister. I do not want the UK to in any way support this illegal war.

Agreed. KS being cautious & law abiding. Good !

Morepositivemum · 02/03/2026 19:16

This is a war for oil. Pirates.

Martymcfly24 · 02/03/2026 19:17

You want to ally your country with an administration thats Secretary of War stated today they will have "No stupid rules of engagement, no nation-building quagmire, no democracy-building exercise, no politically correct wars. We fight to win and we don’t waste time, or lives.”

TreesandGreen · 02/03/2026 19:19

Hard disagree.

I know the Iranian regime is horrendous. But, Illegal wars are never the answer, and they never end well. Just look at Iraq and Afghanistan.

Shame on anyone defending Donald Trump and his actions - an evil, racist liar who's guilty of having abused women and girls.

Disgusting to support him.

Hmm2026 · 02/03/2026 19:21

I’m no expert, but hasn’t Trump just got all Venezuela’s oil and is now destabilizing the Middle East which has huge reserves of oil?

There’s also the matter of the Epstein files.

Call me cynical but I don’t think the man has ever done anything for altruistic reasons.

Chickenonthebathroomfloor · 02/03/2026 19:21

Dropping bombs and murdering innocent civilians isn’t the right way to go about anything. I don’t want the UK to have a part in this shitshow. If more people told Donald Trump to fuck off (and earlier in his pathetic life…) then the world would be a far better place.

AgnesX · 02/03/2026 19:21

Speak for yourself OP. Some of us remember previous wars we've been dragged into ie Gulf War I, and have no desire to get involved in another unless we really have to.

Trump’s war is illegal. And is to distract from the Epstein files.

Thankfully we have a leader who understands and respects the rule of law

Heard that on the news and was shocked by it.
Basically admitting they are not going to abide by international law and have no interest in it, why anyone would want Britain associated with this is beyond me. As for overthrowing the regime to the betterment of ordinary Iranian civilians they have now stated they are not interested in a democracy-building exercise,. Why don't people believe them?

ArtichokesBloom · 02/03/2026 19:24

Starmer has acted correctly. Trump is fighting for oil rights. We shouldn't be joining this war

It quite clearly shows this is not about the Iranian people and securing their future ..the language is like a group of drunk frat boys at a game .
