Deeper understanding of why Israel was created

I have recently visited Poland. Did a lot of reading. Visited a lot of historic sites and museums.

Oh My Gosh - I now REALLY understand why the British Mandate in Palestine created Israel. Even after the war ended Jews were still ostracised, blamed, killed, turned out of lands, unwelcome in many, many nations in Europe. The number of Jews were decimated, many survivors had to use assumed fake identification to survive, some fled to America, to Australia and Europe still wasn't safe or friendly for them hence Israel. One little bit of land where Jewish people originated, where the religion was first founded thousands of years before. A 2 state solution would have been good if both agreed and both wanted to live in peace and prosper. Israel never felt safe so built up a massive defence, built up a country and industry and wanted to prosper.

There is much harm that has been done to many peoples in history. However, the holocaust was unique. I have visited places where Jews no longer exist, they have all gone, millions died, the liquidation of Jews throughout lands, nothing Israel has done in a war is the same as this. The gas chambers, the extermination camps, the work until to drop then we kill you camps. It really is on another scale.

I am now totally pro keeping a land for Jewish people. I don't agree with settler violence but I do agree and understand why Israel needs to defend itself from terrorists who wish to wipe Jewish people from the earth just like the Nazi did.

I don't care how much of it goes to repressing the Palestinians. 1p would be too much. It is not just the money. It is the total hypocrisy. I just an interview with Huckaby saying the Israel has no intention of forcefully evicting the Palestinians from Gaza but if they choose to go, they should be allowed. This is not the first time in history that voluntary emigration has been encouraged as a policy.

I notice you arent addressing the point.

I didn't report @SharonEllis. I didn't feel personally attacked or offended so I have no idea who did.

I thought the questions @SharonEllis was asking was whether you knew how much the Palestinians were given in aid as well as what percentage of taxation money goes on their “persecution”?
Your answer suggests you don’t know precisely but even 1p of support for Israel you would consider too much.
You were also asked whether the government spends tax payers money in other ways you object to or whether ( in your view ) this is the only misuse of taxpayers’ money ?

You are missing the point completely. I have no idea what the actual figures on aid are and have no interest in knowing. What I don't like is the fact that my government is not only still dealing with Israel, they're actively supporting them. I don't like being complicit by association in infanticide let alone genocide.

I think you are not interested in answering further questions about your position. That’s your prerogative - but it does make your case less convincing.

The British Government aid for Palestinians
“How much UK aid has been committed?
Between 2009 and 2024, the UK provided a total of £932 million in bilateral aid (aid for a specific programme or purpose) to the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. In 2022, the UK gave £23 million (the lowest amount in any year since 2009); in 2023 this increased to £42 million and in 2024 to £138 million.
In 2025/26, the UK is planning to provide £116 million of aid. A breakdown has not been published. In 2024/25, UK aid included £10 million, via the World Bank, for the Palestinian Authority (in the West Bank) to pay public sector salaries. It also included £34 million for UNRWA.

Makes us all complicit in some very dodgy stuff doesn't it? I must have missed the threads objecting to taxes going to pay for slay or subsidising employees of unwra who were complicit in 7 October.

Did you not understand my first statement to you. I don't care about British aid that only serves to bandage up bodies after British weapons were used to tear them apart. Selling weapons, or components, to facilitate mass murder and then try to claim we support the victims too is?? I don't think I know how to describe it.

OpheliaWasntMad · 07/09/2026 20:35

Iran provides funding and weapons for Hamas and Hezbollah to commit atrocities against Israelis. So it is complicated. I think Israel has the right to exist without being attacked ( as do the Palestinians)

You don't actually know how little military equipment is SOLD through commercial companies, not given by the UK government, to Israel do you? Absolutely tiny in both volume & proportion. Do you know which countries in the middle east receive vastly more weaponry than Israel? Tell us about their humanitarian record? Their complicity in the deaths of thousands of children? And how do you describe the aid to Palestinians that is diverted to despicable purposes of various sorts?

WTF are you on about. There is literally nothing complicated about it. Are Palestinians allowed self defense?

Yes or No will do.

Would the F35's Israel uses to bomb an open air prison (GAZA) fly without the UK parts? Absolutely not. While the UK government suspended 30 direct arms export licenses to Israel, it specifically created a "carve-out" exemption for F35 components. Why was that? Once again, you are missing or purposefully avoiding the point. I am not happy that my government is supporting a genocide.

No. Do you regard the shooting of a baby feeding on her mothers breast purposely shot in the head as self defense. Yes or no will do.

Absolutely not so it's good that it never happened.

FFS. Name one country which receives more weaponry than Israel and has murdered more than a thousand babies under the age of one in 3 years.

Saudi Arabia is the UK's biggest arms trading partner not just in the ME but in the world. Ranked 147th in the Economist Democracy rankings by the way.

You are right on that but that is support for a side in a civil war between Shia and Sunni muslims. Wars like that are always bloody. What is and has been happening in Yemen is nothing like the oppression and slaughter that is happening in Palestine.

Very interesting take indeed. Suddenly it’s ‘wars like that are always bloody’, nothing to see here, no Jews no news.

The conflict in Gaza was far more brutal with a much higher death toll per population over a much shorter period of time. I think perhaps that's why people find it more shocking.

4% of Gazas population killed in 3 years, it is exceptionally catastrophic. When you look at the percentage of children killed it is even more startling, 2.5%-3% of Gazas children killed in just 3 years, 0.03% of Yemens children killed in 10 years, 0.01% in Ukraine in 4 years. Yemen, Sudan, Ukraine none come even close to the death toll in Gaza, nevermind over such a short period of time. That's not to say that these conflicts aren't shocking and shouldn't be supported by Western governments but when looking at death and destruction the sheer scale of what Israel has done is Gaza is really exceptional, especially when it comes to their killing of children and we shouldn't be afraid to say that. So you are right, Gaza is different, for awful, devastating reasons.
