Feel like once the hostages are handed over Israel will start bombing again

It seems too good to be true, a final end to the war.

After all the plans that were announced with regards to annexation and the Israeli far-right government members, I can’t help but feel that once all of the hostages are released Israel will go ham on Gaza.

There will be nothing to stop them bombing everywhere.

No hostages to avoid bombing.

No families pleading with the Israeli ministers.

Israel has broken so many ceasefires and this was with the hostages lives at stake.

I don’t know, but I can’t celebrate with everyone as I don’t believe it will last and my heart says that’s it’s going to get worse.

I don’t think Israel will stop.

Alittlefeedbackwouldbenice · 10/10/2025 09:46

It's not even a matter of Israel breaking the ceasefire, they keep putting off at beginning so they can bomb more. Either that or they're breaking it already 🤷. They were supposed to literally cease their bombing as soon as it was agreed, as soon as it was agreed, so 11:00 p.m. last night, clearly that didn't happen.

In the last ceasefire from January to March, Israel killed Palestinians pretty much every day. Breaches of the ceasefire were reported every single day. Hamas, for all their many faults (like being terrorists scumbags), actually stuck to it.

So I share sense of anxiety that Israel will simply continue after the hostages are released. The people going on about how Trump should win a Nobel peace prize today are entirely deluded. If the proposed ceasefire actually works, and if his plan results in an independent state of Palestine (Which he doesn't even want), then sure. But it's far too early.

I think it’s the beginning of things getting better but not the end. Trump won’t want to look like a fool so if Netanyahu does starting bombing again he risks losing American support. I think the tide had started to turn against Israel anyway, they’ve exhausted all good will that existed for them.

Trump told them to stop bombing earlier this week and was ignored. They’re literally still bombing then now. Doesn’t strike me as a government massively keen on stopping the war.

PurpleChrayn · 10/10/2025 09:50

And yet it is Gaza that has broken every attempted ceasefire thus far with rockets and bombs.

But easier to blame Israel for everything, isn’t it?

I cannot fucking wait to leave this country and go home. 🇮🇱

Israel has broken so many ceasefires? Have you forgotten how this started two years ago? On 6 October 2023 there was peace. And for years Hamas has turned down the two state solution.

I think a lot of Palestinians would dispute that there was peace for them on 6/10/23.
Netanyahu wants as much Palestinian territory as possible (preferably all) under Israeli control. Israeli settlers have, over the years, been encroaching on Palestinian land and illegally occupying it by force. Supported and encouraged by the Israeli government and IDF, these land grabs often result in violent attacks on Palestinian civilians. Palestinians also have to live constantly under the yoke of Israel. Oppression, fear, control, stolen land and ruined livelihoods. What kind of ‘peace’ is that?

How?

In the jan-march ceasefire, Israel killed Gazans pretty much every day, including young kids.

In the same time period ONE rocket was fired from Gaza (don't know if it was Hamas or not) and it didn't reach the border.

So tell me how that's 'Gaza' breaking the ceasefire with 'rockets and bombs'. I think you might be getting the sides mixed up there.

Ddakji · 10/10/2025 09:56

Isn’t it Hamas that have broken every ceasefire? As they did on October 7 2023 and had done many times before?

I don’t trust either much but I trust Hamas less given that they are, in fact, terrorists.

AhWeNoss · 10/10/2025 10:25

Twiglets1 · 10/10/2025 09:20

It’s not funny looks that will break the ceasefire but Hamas not returning the hostages as agreed.

Wasn’t it Israel that broke the last ceasefire, with some weak and completely unverified claims from them that Hamas started it?

By extension, the constant attacks by settlers on Palestinian villages are therefore also acts of aggression that broke previous ceasefires.

Neither Hamas or Israel have covered themselves in glory here, but let’s stop acting like Israel is the wronged party and it’s all just about getting the hostages back.

noblegiraffe · 10/10/2025 10:37

The plight of the hostages doesn't seem to have impacted Netanyahu's actions till now, he has basically acted as if they are irrelevant to his plans.

So a lack of hostages is unlikely to make any difference.

However, the pressure being put on Israel by Trump (who he pissed off with his attack on Qatar) may have an impact and it seems to have led to this deal in the first place. What would they do without the support of the USA?

On the other side we have to hope that Hamas actually give up their weapons and step down. There seems to be less of an incentive for them to actually do that because I don't think they care about stopping the killing. They may see it as a chance to recuperate.

Everyone needs to keep everything crossed for a very long time yet. Here's hoping for the smooth handover of hostages as a first baby step.

The sooner the religious nutjobs are kicked into touch the better. On all sides.

Trump did say that but it wasn’t an official ceasefire at that point.

It is an official ceasefire now. The IDF announced at 12pm local time (10am UK time) that the fighting in the Strip has stopped, starting the countdown for Hamas to release the remaining hostages.

Yes, they will.

They will find some reason to keep going.

He's already said he will remove any immediate threat so he'll justify more killings

Yep.
Now we watch and wait with fingers crossed for no more killing.

I remember you.
This level of personal vitriol for someone you've never met is something you should question in yourself.

kirinm · 10/10/2025 11:09

I just read an interesting update on the Guardian website which said the UN thinks international press should be allowed in to hold THEM to account in saving lives. I wonder if Israel will allow it?

I remember too.

A completely unwarranted level of vitriol against the poster, her Rabbi & her Rabbi’s son. Which is still present apparently.

I'm sure @justanotherpassword would like to explain that comment, can't possibly be a cruel comment meant to hurt because that would break guidelines....

SharonEllis · 10/10/2025 11:26

@justanotherpassword @AhWeNoss what is going on here? What are you referring to?

Imfat · 10/10/2025 11:37

If the hostages when returned are not in good condition the Israelis will take offence and start bombing again.

Personally I don't think there will be peace in the middle east in my lifetime. Both sides are guilty of the killing
of innocent children and adults. Religion causes so much hatred between us.
If there is a 'god' in any name or form then it's a bad thing.

Referencing @PurpleChrayn proudly posting in the past about her Rabbi’s son going to Israel to join the IDF.

Though tbh based on the reaction of the other posters I wonder if something else has happened.
