Conflict in the Middle East

Thoughts to the Jewish community in the UK

Ihatetomatoes · 02/10/2025 19:38

There is a massive rise in anti semitism in the UK and other countries. Jewish people here have nothing to do with the conflict in Gaza, nothing at all.

The rise in anti semitism is disgusting.

Sending thoughts to the victims, their family and friends. No one should feel terrorised in the UK. People should feel safe here.

While the protests might originally have been about the politics (though the slogans are quite confusing - surely Palestine wants to be free ‘from Hamas’ first and foremost), surely no one can continue to deny they have turned into something else altogether and are becoming quite ugly. It’s important to recognise what this has led to - even if unintended (by some.).

You can’t deny that it’s encouraged antisemitism and hatred. At some point there will be a riot or a wave of destruction in a Jewish neighbourhood and people who have ignored the signs will be confused.

The constant confusion between the identities of Zionists, Netanyahu supporters, Israelis and Jews is problematic. Individuals can be all or none of that… but also have the same basic rights to go to work and raise their kids and not be stabbed on a Thursday morning.

Ny 12 year old daughter was surrounded by a group of teenagers in the hallway at school. The yelled ‘free Palestine’ at her and demanded she ‘support’ them before she managed to push past. She’s the only Jewish child in her high school of 800 and I’m scared every single day. Purposely or not, this is what these marches have created and encouraged.

If my government committed atrocities against a country or a people, then I would feel afraid of repercussions against me from those affected because of my nationality or affiliation.

If you live here then we are screwed as our gov has been involved in a few...

Do you think muslims should fear the far right because a minority are committing atrocities?

It's strange though that after the Manchester Arena attack no one posted on threads saying well the UK government killed dc abroad so what did we expect.

I agree with your points, but what I'm saying is that Netanyahu has whipped up hatred or at least resentment over the past 2 years. I think he has done Jewish people around the world a huge disservice by putting them in danger through his actions. People will want to retaliate. They shouldn't do so of course, but Israel has fostered bad feeling through its persecution of the Gazans and destruction of their homes and families.

If my government committed atrocities against a country or a people, then I would feel afraid of repercussions against me from those affected because of my nationality or affiliation. It's wrong that it happens, but it seems causative to me.

No this is wrong. It’s making things worse for Jewish people here.

Sorry, but I don’t agree with you.

People are absolutely allowed to call out the horrendous actions of a political leader who has caused mass genocide - he does not get a free pass because he is from “the only Jewish” nation in the world. That’s not how human rights work.

One absolutely has the right to hold that opinion and equally completely condemn the act of terrorism by Islamist extremists who hold antisemetic opinions. And also to want Hamas to stop their actions.

Edited

I agree with this.

@Sonjaaajust because you keep using the word ‘genocide’ a genocide it doesn’t make. And I don’t think anyone should do anything both this close to a deal and without actual proof.

Anyway back to the British Jewish community….

I am not sure what more proof you need. Shame on you for not calling it a genocide.

clipboardz · 03/10/2025 07:29

Shame on you

Don't forget to save a lot of that shame for yourself!

For what? Can you spell that out please?

clipboardz · 03/10/2025 07:34

I do not need to, everyone can see it for what it is.

Gosh had been off MN for a bit and forgotten about the very strong pro NB lobby here.

Dont forget there are many Jewish voices also within Israel who are also calling it a genocide so it’s hardly controversial.

Read the OP, you might have missed what the thread is about. HTH

Why on this thread? Do you want to give thoughts and support to the Jewish community here?

Yes such a peaceful thread. It went off rail only a few posts in didn’t it?

Quite

Do you want to give thoughts and support to the Jewish community here?

Evidently not, is anyone surprised?

But do you? Will you give support to the Jewish community here, as per thread title

SomethingFun · 03/10/2025 07:54

Usual sickening antisemitism in this cesspit on mumsnet. Apparently being Jewish and being murdered in a terrorist attack in the uk is your own fault according to that fatty poster earlier, absolute disgrace that someone would type that out and think it’s acceptable and so few posters call it out so I assume you don’t see the antisemitism or you don’t care or even worse you agree with the sentiment that British Jewish people should be collectively punished for what one president on another continent does or does not do.

peepsypops · 03/10/2025 07:55

Seriously - WHY can we not completely lend support to Jewish people in the UK and worldwide who feel under threat and vilified AND simultaneously debate points that are also for many, completely valid.

For example, early on in this thread the blame for yesterday’s awful incident was largely placed on those attending pro-Palestine marches. As I said earlier, I know many, many people who publicly condemn what is happening in Gaza and are not inciting hate towards Jewish people AT ALL. Please give some credit - not everyone is that way inclined.

It came up in this thread and people are debating it - such is life, Mumsnet and differing opinions.

Why can't there be one thread about the events of yesterday that are simply about the event and how Jewish people here are feeling?

GentleSheep · 03/10/2025 08:00

To respond by investigating it as a crime, find and arrest those responsible and put them through due process through the courts, ensuring the law was applied while also complying with international law. And send rescue parties to get the hostages back or better still negotiate their return.

Sounds so civilised doesn't it! 'Find and arrest those responsible' - in those hundreds of miles of labyrinthine tunnels? Yep, let's send a couple of teams, should do the trick. Negotiate the return of the hostages? What do you think has been going on all this time? Hamas never comply with anything. Plus the minute you find one terrorist and put them in prison another 10 will spring up and carry on the same work the first one was doing. Then, you try to negotiate and end up releasing 100 terrorists from your prisons just to get one hostage back, who by now is of course dead so you only get a body. Those aren't exact numbers of course but there are many news articles of the lengths Israel has gone to. Yet at the end of that, how much progress has actually been made? It's the stuff of nightmares.

And sometimes the dead person you get back isn’t even the right person!! The mind boggles.

It takes a lot to anger the British. We have never been particularly revolutionary by nature (unlike, say, the French!). But I can feel the mood changing from laissez-faire to "Something must be done about this."

And about time too!

There won’t be one. This thread was already derailed a couple of posts in, so you could have stepped in then.
