App to boycott Israeli goods

Everexpanding · 14/09/2025 10:49

the “No Thanks” app, which first appeared almost two years ago carrying a large list of companies and brands consumers might consider boycotting because of Israeli links.
The app has become a key tool for the BDS movement that targets Israel economically for the actions of its government and its military in Gaza.
Along with a list of companies and brands to boycott, the app allows users to scan barcodes to find out more about the relationship particular products have with Israel.

Thanks for that

PrincessC0nsuelaBananaHammock · 14/09/2025 18:47

Is there one for brands with Chinese links, after their genocide of Uyghur Muslims?

How about one for brands with ties to Iran after their funding of Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis?

Or one for brands with ties to the UAE after they happily transfer weapons to Sudan after the recent genocide there?

Or one for brands with ties to Russia?

Or is it only Jews we hold to account?

itsallsohard · 14/09/2025 18:53

The Canadians have one for boycotting US goods, since Trump...

Everexpanding · 14/09/2025 18:53

I have yet to find any but if I do I will post, to note the app aims to put pressure on Israeli companies and companies producing or supporting illegal Israeli settlements not Jewish businesses there is a big difference, as you know many many Jewish people are not supportive of Israel’s ongoing breaches of international law

Nor am I supportive of Israel's ongoing war in Gaza. I do find it shocking the way people are focused purely on Israel, though, when there are so many massacres and wars happening all over the world. It just reeks of the same antisemitism the Nazis propagated.

PrawnAgain · 14/09/2025 19:02

The buycott app allows users to chose many different campaigns so they can boycott things they feel strongly about.

I think the scale of suffering in Israel and the fact that civilians are trapped without adequate humanitarian aid or the ability to escape is what people find shocking. I think that the fact that Israel is a fairly westernised state with strong economic and political ties to our own governments and economies means that people expect it to behave within international law

I suppose people have a choice in terms of who they want to support or not.

JustGoClickLikeALightSwitch · 14/09/2025 19:29

Right. And this app, are you accessing it on an Apple device? Or maybe an Android? Or a computer that uses Intel?

Totally get your point and yes if I boycotted the whole list I might not eat, wash or use a computer but I feel the need to do what I can and boycotts do help, I plan to try and switch brands where I can

In the same way the US and UK behaved "within international law" when they lied about the WMD so they could invade Iraq?

Yes, of course, people have a choice. But why ALL the focus on Israel when there are equally appalling genocides happening all over the world? Why is it only Israel that is blamed and has people protesting and targeting Jews?

But jaffa oranges are delicious!

Sitdowny · 14/09/2025 20:51

I have it. Very easy to use. You just scan the barcode. Also has an alternative list.

Well for those people who support the Palestinians and are seeing what’s happening to them in Gaza Israel will be the focus.

Why don’t you start apps for the other causes you have mentioned if you’re so concerned about them? In the meantime, this app is for this cause.

quantumbutterfly · 14/09/2025 21:54

It sounds like an app to assist me in making informed buying choices.

Well the UK already applies economic or financial sanctions to Iran, Russia and many other countries.

It doesn't with UAE or Israel because they are our supposed allies, so its good for UK consumers to then choose not to spend money where they feel they unable to support on moral grounds.

mids2019 · 15/09/2025 03:56

Johnson realize that there are many Palestinians working in Israel who will be impacted d by the downturn in the economy of you don't but Israeli goods? Also are you going to boycott US goods as they supply weapons to Israel...thought not?

You've lost me. Why are 'westernised' states the only ones expected to follow international law? Do the citizens of non-Western countries not deserve the protections of international law? Is this what we mean by decolonisation?

It's quite a narrow world view.
I noticed there's also a website to support Israeli industry, though google didn't find it. The same people who excuse the violence of 'suppressed' people advocate for suppressing Israel. It sounds more like revenge than peacemaking.
Trump is fond of similar tactics, copying is the most sincere form of flattery.

Absolutely! We always have the choice to be on the right or wrong side of history. There were many ppl who supported Nazis too. Each to their own.
