App to boycott Israeli goods

1000 replies

Everexpanding · 14/09/2025 10:49

the “No Thanks” app, which first appeared almost two years ago carrying a large list of companies and brands consumers might consider boycotting because of Israeli links.
The app has become a key tool for the BDS movement that targets Israel economically for the actions of its government and its military in Gaza.
Along with a list of companies and brands to boycott, the app allows users to scan barcodes to find out more about the relationship particular products have with Israel.

You realise that the phone you use to “boycott Israeli goods” is probably built on Israeli tech, right?

As others have said, it’s interesting that your boycotts don’t seem to extend to other countries that are committing actual atrocities and genocides.

It’s starting to feel a lot how my elderly relatives used to talk about Germany in the 1930s.

Israel is committing an actual genocide

Israel has committed genocide in Gaza, says UN commission of inquiry

Report cites scale of killings and aid blockages and accuses Benjamin Netanyahu of inciting commission of genocide

This was discussed already further up the thread am aware full boycott nigh on impossible but would rather do the small things I can rather than nothing

Also why would people throw stuff away they already have. That’s just stupid !

DrPrunesqualer · 16/09/2025 11:54

Of note.

It might be worth looking at whether your pensions are invested in Israel. ( as many are )
Mine has the ability to switch investments so it’s worth looking at.

DrPrunesqualer · 16/09/2025 11:55

Insurance companies aswell

DrPrunesqualer · 16/09/2025 11:56

Edited

70% of the world's pearls are produced by China which has been recognised as committing genocide against the uighyurs.

I assume you are also advocating boycotting China. Is there a useful app?

Everexpanding · 16/09/2025 12:49

@SharonEllis
no comment on the UN committee report confirming Israel has committed genocide ?

Hopefully as a result countries will now actually act to sanction Israel

You could make one?

This app was created by a Palestinian whose sister died after being denied authorization by the Israeli authorities to get medical care in Jerusalem. Then his brother was killed by an Israeli airstrike. I think it's great that a Palestinian is trying to bring about change through peaceful means. I thought this is what everybody wanted?

Exactly!

The op will end up only buying potatoes from their village shop and knitting their own jumpers at this rate.

As others have said where does all your tech come from op, your clothes, everything you buy in fact. How difficult your life will be if you only purchase from countries that never have had conflicts.

SharonEllis · 16/09/2025 13:30

I do actually avoid Chinese goods where I can I shop quite carefully so an app would be handy. I just don't understand why Israel is so assiduously targetted but not other places. Or rather I do understand. I dont understand why people dont think its a problem.

This is an article worth reading. Listing brands we might like to side step.
eg Burger King, Barclays etc etc etc

App to boycott Israeli goods
quantumbutterfly · 16/09/2025 13:56

Just listened to the creator of this app being interviewed. He was complaining that the Israelis were trying to turn people against 'the resistance' so if you want Israel not to exist this is the app for you. He wants to 'send them all home.'

He's in Hungary, managed to escape the open air prison so maybe he has connections, his brother was in Turkey and went back to Gaza at the end of 2023...

Do people want Israel to disappear?
No they just want it to stop committing war crimes

Does Israel want Palestine to disappear?
Yes, it seems so

Exactly, The idea of saying that the app developer want's Israel to disappear is a misrepresentation and an exaggeration of what the app developer said.

Ahmed simply said that the Israeli regime are deliberately starving people in Gaza in order to get them to turn against Hamas. It's been stated as such by Israeli officials and is collective punishment in order to try to achieve what the IDF have failed to achieve through military means.

Listen to the interview, it's only had 20 views on YouTube.

Exactly. A guy created an app to help people boycott Israeli goods, a peaceful means of protest, after 2 of his close family members were killed by the Israeli regime. Israel according to the UN and every major NGO are committing genocide. He isn't the bad guy here, he isn't the one making anyone disappear.

I'm glad that he is safe in Hungary.

Gloriia · 16/09/2025 15:22

'He isn't the bad guy here'

He is. We've seen this before haven't we in the 1940s where people boycotted Jewish businesses all no doubt thinking they weren't bad guys either.

This app bloke needs to use his time more constructively and stop demonising Israelis running businesses.

The Israeli government "are committing actual atrocities and genocides." However they and their supporters appear to have an AIBU approach to life:

  • Are we commiting genocide?
A: Yes
  • No we're not.
It’s starting to feel a lot how my elderly relatives used to talk about Germany in the 1930s. Are you calling people here Nazi's? Because they are opposed to genocide and "actual atrocities"? An awful lot of Jewish people are opposed to the actions of the Israeli government. How are they sounding like "Germany in the 1930's"?

Except 'this app bloke' created an app to help consumers avoid buying products from a country that all major NGOs and the UN agree is committing genocide as we speak so it's nothing like people boycotting Jewish businesses in the 1940s no matter how many of you say it is.

Israeli businesses pay taxes to their government and that helps to pay for their governments genocidal rampage in Gaza.

It is exactly like boycotting Jews in the 30s/40s no matter how many of you think it isn't.

The app bloke should have his app banned for discrimination and hate.

Sickening how some bleat on that hamas doesn't equal gazans so why should gazans suffer but seem to think its all lovely for Jewish civilians to suffer because of the actions of their leaders. Make your minds up.

Sitdowny · 16/09/2025 16:52

Stop centring Jewish people on every post about Palestinians

Everexpanding · 16/09/2025 16:55

The app targets Israeli businesses not jewish individuals as @GladioliGreen rightly pointed out these businesses pay taxes to the Israeli government which are then used to fund its current genocidal campaign. I do not want my money used to carry out a genocide, if Israel changes course I will not boycott

So it's ok for Israelis to suffer because of the decisions of their leaders?

It's a bit hypocritical isn't it. Aren't Israelis as innocent as gazans?

I'll have a Google and see how you go about reporting apps for discrimination, Thanks for highlighting this.

Everexpanding · 16/09/2025 17:04

businesses can pressure their government to change that is what boycotts aim to achieve change.

@Gloriia Yes that is what you should be concentrating your efforts on, on the day that it has been confirmed Israel is carrying out a genocide, wouldn’t want to be thinking or acting to help Palestinians no???
