You tell me ... precisely what 1:1 would you be fine with?

Block of flats in Netanya bombed because "there was an IDF in there"?

"But that particular Israeli 10-year-old stomped on bags of flour meant for Gaza, so obviously they were fair game"?

"Not really a journalist; he's an IDF reservist and a propagandist! Obviously, we had to bomb Channel 14's studio during a live broadcast!"

"Unfortunately, we had to leave a bunch of Israeli NICU babies to die - they would have grown up to be IDF, you see ..."

"I agree this is all maximally unfortunate. But, on the other hand: they voted for Netanyahu ... "

Pick one!

You seem to have misunderstood the basics of this war.

Some of the comment on here are quite something. Hugh seems to have touched a nerve for wanting the slaughter of innocent people to stop.

I know it’s quite bizarre that anyone could argue against someone saying children shouldn’t be murdered.

But still they do.

SharonEllis · 06/09/2025 06:32

You all know noone is saying that someone shouln't say children shouldn't be murdeted.

You all know noone here supports the murder of children.

You all know the point is whether band waggon jumping, self inflating stunts are to be applauded. Some of you think they are. Fine. But its laughable to try and twist it to suggest that people who don't are supporting the murder of children.

Greenangellite · 06/09/2025 07:23

He's not done any harm sharonellis. OK I think its fine for him to show support and jump on the bandwagon. Viruue sign. What is your issue with that really? Why is that so terrible.
Why don't you take the opportunity to spell out your beliefs about the situation now.

Because this is not a thread about my 'beliefs'.

You like virtue signalling and bandwaggon jumping. I think its both pointless and harmful as well as revealing. Its fine to disagree . It doesn't mean I support killing children.

Greenangellite · 06/09/2025 07:38

OK pointless so what. Harmful how. Who has him comments harmed specifically?
You've pulled apart many responses on thus thread. So I think its fine to direcly ask you what your beliefs are aloowing you to respond in an honest and open way?

Gloriia · 06/09/2025 07:50

I'd like to see him on a serious current affairs programme, debating like a grown up, backing up his thoughts and being challenged by someone intelligent.

Using a premiere to garble 'it's just horrid what is happening in gaza!' than quickly saying smugly 'yes the film is great though' made him look like an absolute tit imo.

Greenangellite · 06/09/2025 07:56

He's not hurt anyone though.

I responded to the harm point further up in the thread. I never said he had specifically harmed an individual. Im sorry but I really think that's extremely obvious.

This is not a thread about my beliefs on 'the situation'. I've given my opinion on the subject of the thread.

Greenangellite · 06/09/2025 08:03

Why are you so vitruliolic your response is not preportinate what is driving that?

SharonEllis · 06/09/2025 08:09

Greenangellite · 06/09/2025 08:03

Why are you so vitruliolic your response is not preportinate what is driving that?

Because I think its a serious subject, with real people dying, with real people facing existential risk and with people in this country facing real risk too. I think the people of Israel and Palestine deserve a better standard of debate, from people who have taken the trouble to get themselves informed and who are willing to express their opin ions in an environment that fosters understanding not division. Stunts like this achieve none of these things. And I can't stand pompous self congratulatory slebs and Im not feeding their delusion that their half baked opinions are important.

Bonneville is just another ill informed fool joining the ranks of Lily Allen etc

❤️🇮🇱❤️

He's a fool because he's against genocide and forced starvation?

Stripes56 · 06/09/2025 08:18

I love the fact he cheekily used the opportunity to show others he is concerned about the situation in Gaza before swiftly moving on with promotion of Downtown Abbey!

I do have admiration for him, as it’s a difficult to express concerns about Palestinians in real life due to worry you’re going to offend someone or even adversely impact you own career!

Maybe the situation is changing though- maybe it is less controversial for artists and other well known people to show Palestinians support 🤜

It does really irk some people though.

Gloriia · 06/09/2025 08:21

Greenangellite · 06/09/2025 07:56

He's not hurt anyone though.

He hasn't hurt anyone though no. It is just beyond crass to rush a 'it's awful in gaza!!' comment then swiftly blustering on about how simply adorable his film is.

I think those suffering in a conflict deserve more than this pompous twit trying desperately to gain some clicks for himself.

Greenangellite · 06/09/2025 08:23

Lets twist again, like we did last summer.....

Stripes56 · 06/09/2025 08:30

He is getting a lot of praise on social media apparently!

« The star won praise on social media for using the prime time interview to raise the major issue.
One post with thousands of retweets read: "Big up Hugh Bonneville. He used his red carpet interview to highlight what's happening in Gaza and calls it indefensible."
Another account added: "I've always liked Hugh Bonneville ... Imagine my DELIGHT at hearing what this wonderful decent man said at the premiere of Downton Abbey."
Others praised the actor's strategy in the interview. "Hugh Bonneville calling out what’s happening in Gaza then not pausing for breath so they can’t edit it out is sheer class," said one post.

I wonder what you’ve been reading and where you’ve been looking then?

Every MSM organisation, including the BBC, has been sharing Hamas propaganda daily ad nauseum for almost 2 years! Any rebuttals from Israel are a small paragraph at the end of the article in most cases.

Take the pictures of the children with medical conditions touted as proof of famine?

The claim that a child was shot by the IDF at the GHF aid site?

Gaza is discussed more by MPs in Parliament over UK affairs like the state of the NHS.

Hell, I think this board probably has had more threads on it after the main boards like AIBU and Chat.

There’s more Palestinian flags in the UK than any other country including our own.

More marches and protests on the streets than for any other cause.

Have you looked for daily updates on what’s happening each day on any other war?

You have really swallowed the Israeli koolaid haven't you.

What on earth are you talking about? Gaza has had 4 articles on bbc in last 24h. Uyghurs, Yemen, Sudan ( apart from unrelated landslide) all 0. Ive had 3 notifications from the Guardian this morning. Mumsnet has its own section of the forum for Israel / Gaza? How can you say Gaza isnt being talked about? Its like Big Brother in here sometimes 😬

I mean here we are on a forum for Gaza, talking about Gaza, on a thread about some actor talking about Gaza, and you're telling me we dont talk about it very much, while we're actually talking about it on an active thread?

And you're telling me to open my eyes? Laughable.

I was referring to mainstream news feeds like the BBC, not mumsnet forums.

The BBC is especially pro Israel in its reporting I've noticed. Careful use of words in a script they are internally mandated to use.

It sounds like you think people are talking about the atrocities going on there too much?

Real standard of debate has its place of course.

Israel is paying Maga Influencers to come to Israel and "influence" so I think Hugh can say something as non offensive as this is ok.

I saw a few clips of this. It was completely bizarre, influencers wandering around a car park with aid in it saying see there is no famine in Gaza even though they aren't allowed to go outside of this car park and see anywhere that Palestinians actually are. It's propaganda only for the very stupid.
