First Lush were 'dispicable' for closing their stores in protest of the starvation in Gaza now Hugh is an idiotic grandad. Some people just really can't stand it when people speak out for Palestinians.

Almost like he wanted to tick his box asap, allow no space for scrutiny and get back to the fluff. Virtue signalled, job done!

Seems more like he sandwiched it in so quickly so that in replays it's not able to be edited out.

Can anyone point me to the clip of his condemnation of 7 October? Its odd, I can't seem to find one. I guess it was drowned out by the masses of celebrities taking to the airwaves at the time.

If you are still making “both sides” of this argument, you haven’t been paying attention to what is actually happening in Gaza right now.

Yes, he played it very well, didn’t he.

BoredZelda · 05/09/2025 11:14

PurpleChrayn · 05/09/2025 10:43

It was very much an “Okay, granddad. Let’s get you to bed” moment. Idiotic bandwagon-jumper.

Nice bit of casual ageism there.

LuckyNumberFive · 05/09/2025 11:15

BoredZelda · 05/09/2025 11:13

Yes, he played it very well, didn’t he.

I think the manner in which he went about it was very clever. ITV will have to choose between allowing it in replays or not showing any interview footage with one of the big "stars" of the show. He spoke very quick that there wasn't an easy spot to cut in and out for editing.

I'm thankful to Hugh for his insightful highlighting of this awful crisis, which is receiving no air time at all here in the West. Had he not mentionned it I'd be none the wiser about this terrible situation.

Absolutely ridiculous.

He could have used his celebrity and privileged position to highlight something that would actually help raise awareness- plenty of under reported human crises all over the globe.

Instead he chose a pat, virtue signalling omnicause one liner.

S l o w c l a p

🙄🙄🙄🙄

The humanitarian crisis in Gaza actually ISN'T being talked about enough or very much in the West. The government and the media, esp the BBC, have supported or ignored Netanyahu's horrific actions. We barely get updates on what is happening each day unless you watch Al Jazeera, and half of their journalists on the ground there have been deliberately assassinated by the Israeli regime.

So take your tone deaf slow clap and open your eyes.

But perhaps you prefer to be blinded by propaganda?

SeaAndStars · 05/09/2025 11:29

Well done him.

Huge Bonneville doesn't even have grandchildren.

Ad hominem attacks seem to be the only defence now.

MrsSkylerWhite · 05/09/2025 11:39

Why on earth was my comment at 11.08 deleted MNHQ?

A minority of presumably British people who presumably don’t vote in Israel anonymously post in support of the Israeli government on this forum. Is that equally bizarre/odd?

As a public figure, he has a voice and chose to use it. You and I, presumably, are not.

Its very rare for people to post in support of the current Israeli government on this forum. I expect those that do have knowledge of interal Israeli politics that I don't have. Speaking for myself as a a strong supporter of the State of Israel I have never expressed support politically for the government.

Yet, Purple's ageist comment still stands.

You oppose the Government of Israel, in respect of its policies towards the people of Gaza, then?

MrsSkylerWhite · 05/09/2025 11:42

Do you support a two state solution, SharonEllis?

I wonder what you’ve been reading and where you’ve been looking then?

Every MSM organisation, including the BBC, has been sharing Hamas propaganda daily ad nauseum for almost 2 years! Any rebuttals from Israel are a small paragraph at the end of the article in most cases.

Take the pictures of the children with medical conditions touted as proof of famine?

The claim that a child was shot by the IDF at the GHF aid site?

Gaza is discussed more by MPs in Parliament over UK affairs like the state of the NHS.

Hell, I think this board probably has had more threads on it after the main boards like AIBU and Chat.

There’s more Palestinian flags in the UK than any other country including our own.

More marches and protests on the streets than for any other cause.

Have you looked for daily updates on what’s happening each day on any other war?

SharonEllis · 05/09/2025 11:44

MrsSkylerWhite · 05/09/2025 11:42

Some yes, some no. I don't vote there though.

MrsSkylerWhite · 05/09/2025 11:45

SharonEllis · 05/09/2025 11:44

Yes.

Good to agree.

SharonEllis · 05/09/2025 11:47

MrsSkylerWhite · 05/09/2025 11:45

Good to agree.

I just have absolutely no idea why you would think I didn't.

Rallentanda · 05/09/2025 11:49

Good for him. It's not like we can't see what is going on. Anyone trying to discredit people speaking out by harking backwards simply has no power any longer.

What on earth are you talking about? Gaza has had 4 articles on bbc in last 24h. Uyghurs, Yemen, Sudan ( apart from unrelated landslide) all 0. Ive had 3 notifications from the Guardian this morning. Mumsnet has its own section of the forum for Israel / Gaza? How can you say Gaza isnt being talked about? Its like Big Brother in here sometimes 😬

I mean here we are on a forum for Gaza, talking about Gaza, on a thread about some actor talking about Gaza, and you're telling me we dont talk about it very much, while we're actually talking about it on an active thread?

And you're telling me to open my eyes? Laughable.

SeaAndStars · 05/09/2025 11:57

It wasn't me. I haven't reported anyone. I'm agreeing furiously with you and Hugh.
