Sky News report that Israel is expected to approve Benjamin Netanyahu's plan for a takeover of Gaza when the security cabinet meets later today.

According to the Times of Israel, the full cabinet is due to convene at 6pm local time, 4pm in the UK.

Israeli media are reporting that the plan could potentially span over five months, and it is likely to be aimed at destroying Hamas and pressuring it to free remaining hostages.

While some ministers have been critical of the plan, reports suggest Netanyahu is likely to secure a majority of support.

The Telegraph: Israel gives Gazans until Oct 7 to evacuate ahead of full occupation
Deadline to move a million people out of Gaza City set for two-year anniversary of Hamas massacre

Israel will tell civilians in Gaza City that they have until Oct 7 to evacuate before it launches a full military occupation.

Under a plan approved by the security cabinet on Thursday night, the IDF will order the population to move to the south of the Strip before commencing its assault in an effort to defeat Hamas fully and return the Israeli hostages.

Although the meeting technically approved only the full occupation of Gaza City in the first instance, it is widely understood the plan will apply to every piece of the enclave not yet under Israeli control.

Set for the two-year anniversary of the Hamas massacre that started the war, the evacuation deadline gives Israel just two months to prepare a humanitarian response for the approximately one million residents of the northern town.

Disgusting
Israels actions make me truly sick to the stomach

I hope countries come down hard on this. Sanctions economic isolations …. Anything and everything.

This isn’t a ‘win’
This is utterly disgraceful and shameful

If Israel retreats, they will be attacked, for Hamas to finish the job. Civilians have no life under Hamas - I also don't believe Hamas act alone and are funded by rich arabs, who covertly share Hamas' goal. Palestinian civilians won't be able to openly turn against Hamas - they need a place where they can at least survive. Israel is offering to protect them from Hamas, as well as securing Israel.

Edited

Can’t believe you are suggesting Netanyahu and his Israeli followers are protecting Palestinians

They don’t give a toss
What lies some people are reading really shocks me

I don't think a single government supports Netanyahu and his barbaric plans - bar the US but i wouldn't expect any less from Trump.

TomeTome · 08/08/2025 20:17

I agree. Withdrawal of all remaining support and extreme sanctions would be a start.

As reported in the BBC today, many Palestinians are angry not only at Israel but also at Hamas.

'Hamas should hand over hostages,' says Gazan

As we've been reporting, Israel doesn't allow international journalists into Gaza to report freely.
The BBC works with journalists inside the territory, who can interview Gazans and share what's happening.
Um Saadi tells us she's been evacuated 15 times since the start of the war.
Asked if she'll evacuate again after Israel's plan to take over Gaza City, she says she's not sure yet.
"We might evacuate or stay here, or wait to see what they plan to do with us," she says.
Saadi says Hamas needs to hand over the hostages, so that Israel "won't invade us".
"Give them the hostages and spare us," she says.
Asked if she has children, Saadi says they ask her for food and drinks but she "cannot provide for them".
Frustrated, she says: "Hamas provides for itself, they eat and drink, while we cannot provide food or drinks."

It’s a desperately sad and hopeless situation for the Palestinians. The words from the US here are highly worrying. Huckabee repeating Netanyahu’s words about Dresden. Not just bad for Gaza, I just feel it’s yet another sign that the US has taken a very dark turn.

An Atrocity without limits.
How did we get into this mess?
Serious introspection is needed. Gutted

Twiglets1 · 08/08/2025 20:23

The longer this goes on, the worse things seem to get for the Palestinian civilians. Hamas need to negotiate in good faith and agree to release the hostages, disarm and leave Gaza, for the sake of the people they are supposed to be governing.

How did they (not we) get into this mess?
October 7th. Hostages not being returned. Vowing death to Israel.

Hamas alone hold the answer to the conflict.

deckchairmayhem · 08/08/2025 20:30

The criminals must be held to account for all this.
Watch them wriggle, but no, it ll have to be the us Israelis who find not joy in ever lasting pain and death and want more for our country. That bad people must be held to account.

"So Israel is expected to surrender to Hamas & feed them even though Israeli hostages are being starved?"

Nice to know Huckabee is as knowledgeable as his boss about International affairs

(A) Gaza is an Occupied Territory and as such Israel has responsibilities around
(B) Israel are not providing the food
(C) It is a war crime to starve a population.

PaxAeterna · 08/08/2025 20:32

Very sad article on the woman talking about Hamas.

Ordinary Palestinians have no agency at all over their future. There is nobody at the table actually advocating for working in their best interests.

And I hope that I’m completely wrong but I fear many Palestinians will die as the city is evacuated. The BBC describe the route as being highly militarised.

Protecting them is the last thing on his mind.

I would expect a similar situation to the aid sites with a policy of shooting once somebody strays off the designated "route" (or doesn't who knows). The death rate would be similarly high as that at the aid sites.

It just such a flagrant disregard for international law, and this repeating of the soundbites and propaganda. 😞

This is definitely bigger than Gaza. It is beyond depressing.

When a person of this level with such a huge stage repeats such blatant mistruths you have to wonder is it deliberate or a lack of knowledge.

Agree that the situation for her and her family is very bad. It is not her fault yet she is getting punished & there are many like her.

As you say, the saddest thing is that there is nobody at the table advocating for the best interests of ordinary Palestinians. As much as I agree that Israel have responsibilities towards them (which they haven't fulfilled very well) it is also true that their own leaders are the main ones you would expect to have their genuine best interests at heart. This needs to be stopped now and a ceasefire agreement reached.

Perhaps because Israel won’t return the thousands they have detained without trial
For years!

But this back & forth just leads to the war going on and on and no one (surely) wants it to get to the 2 year anniversary.

Hamas needs to accept when it's time to give up... all they can hope to achieve if they carry on is some dead IDF soldiers, maybe dead hostages.

What price will the Palestinian people pay for Hamas getting the satisfaction of that? It won't be proportionate, that's for sure.
