Sky News report that Israel is expected to approve Benjamin Netanyahu's plan for a takeover of Gaza when the security cabinet meets later today.

According to the Times of Israel, the full cabinet is due to convene at 6pm local time, 4pm in the UK.

Israeli media are reporting that the plan could potentially span over five months, and it is likely to be aimed at destroying Hamas and pressuring it to free remaining hostages.

While some ministers have been critical of the plan, reports suggest Netanyahu is likely to secure a majority of support.

I strongly disagree with sanctions - yet another reward for Hamas, the architects of the whole mess.

I'm asking this question in good faith and as someone who supports Israel (the country & her people) but not always their government.

But what actions do you suggest other countries could take to signal their disapproval of Netanyahu going (as many think he does) "too far"?

I also see the war and all the destruction and death as primarily the fault of Hamas. But I can understand why countries might want to sanction Israel over the plans to build new settlements for example.

I believe space raccoon is in favour of the settlements, unless I'm getting her mixed up with another poster.

I agree with your question though Twiglets. It feels like to some there are no red lines for Israel, and that's very worrying indeed.

You are indeed mixing me up with another poster.

I think the best course of action remains as it has been for the last nearly two years - trying to get the war ended as quickly as possible, by getting rid of Hamas. And I feel like various Western countries have meddled in the most damaging way, that has encouraged Hamas that they're on the right track (winning the PR war - they don't care about actual Gazans), and that has just dragged the whole thing out. Sanctions will be more of the same.
