Facts:

  • At least 15,000 children have been killed since the war began in October 2023.
  • Many have died in airstrikes, building collapses, or stampedes at aid sites.
  • Thousands more have been injured, often with life-altering wounds, burns, or amputations.
  • Gaza is facing famine-like conditions.
  • Children are eating grass, leaves, or going days without food.
  • Severe malnutrition is widespread, especially in northern Gaza. Babies and toddlers are dying of hunger-related causes.
  • Nearly all children in Gaza are now considered to have signs of acute psychological trauma:
  • Nightmares
  • Bedwetting
  • Non-responsiveness (shutdown/dissociation)
  • Panic at loud sounds
  • Many have lost one or both parents, siblings, or entire families.
  • Most hospitals have been bombed or shut down.
  • Children can’t access basic care, vaccines, or treatment for chronic illnesses.
  • Wounded kids are operated on without anesthesia in some cases.
  • Over 1 million children have been displaced—many multiple times.
  • Families sleep in tents, rubble, or outdoors with no clean water or toilets.
  • Nearly all schools have been shut down, destroyed, or turned into shelters.
  • Many teachers and schoolchildren have been killed.
  • A whole generation risks growing up with no access to education or safety.
  • Children are drinking dirty water, leading to diarrheal diseases and infections.
  • Outbreaks of hepatitis, lice, and scabies are widespread.
  • Even in declared “safe zones” or aid areas, children have been shot, suffocated in stampedes, or killed by nearby strikes.
  • Some have died while queuing for water or food.

“There is no safe place left for children in Gaza. They are being killed, starved, maimed, and psychologically shattered. This is not a humanitarian crisis—this is a crisis of humanity.”
— Save the Children, July 2025

It’s exactly what people are saying here. All this, did we feed the Germans stuff?

I like to imagine that there's a daily 2am email with acceptable talking points and arguments for that day.......

Sadly I have to agree with this 👆

I'm an eternal optimist, it's dire right now and the images are heartbreaking.

Try to keep the faith, there's still have some hope in humanity.

Well, it was me who mused aloud about how unusual this situation is. I'm not a historian! Neither am I in the pay of the Israeli government... oddly enough 😬🤦🏻‍♀️

You have a vivid imagination.

Unless I’m just not getting the memo 🤔

Great then that I wasn't referring to your specific comment, nor did i accuse you of being in the pay of the Israeli government.

My, admittedly tongue in cheek comment it was in response to the NYT article about Amichay Eliyahu talking about "feeding the Nazis" . Social media has been flooded similar "feeding" comments over the last couple of days.

Many cite the same arguments over and over often in the exact same way though, and it is noticeable that they are very similar to what Israeli government Ministers and spokespeople are saying in their defense too. You see the same comments ad nauseum on many sm platforms. The argument that the UN are denying aid was said by Israeli government officials on news channels on Wed evening and yesterday that argument appeared everywhere for the first time. Coincidence? I think not

It's not coincidence, or conspiracy, that some people share views that differ from yours.

Israeli director and restaurateur Shahar Segal, who briefly served as spokesperson for the American aid foundation Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), accused Hamas and the UN of exacerbating the humanitarian situation in the area.

GHF is responsible for food distribution in Gaza.

Speaking in an interview with Kan Reshet Bet, Segal responded to the claims of famine in Gaza, saying: “Nothing coming out of Gaza is factual. There are no foreign journalists in Gaza; all information coming out of there essentially passes through the Hamas filter. I’m not saying there’s no hunger — I’m just saying let’s put it in perspective.”

According to Segal, the humanitarian issue could be resolved if not for UN obstinacy. “To ensure food security for Gaza’s residents, around 100 trucks a day are needed. The foundation is bringing in about 50 trucks, but another 50 are waiting in UN warehouses. The UN refuses to distribute the food because it won’t allow the IDF to secure the convoys and is demanding a ceasefire.”

He also accused the UN of withholding funding. “It’s a political organization with its own interests, and it does things the way it thinks things need to be done. It’s shutting off the flow of massive amounts of US funding and food, which ultimately don’t reach the Gazan population.”

Obviously you won't believe any of that becuase it comes from an Israeli. But I can imagine that the IDF's priority, given that Hamas are cowards and pretend to be civilians, is securing their own safety.

You don’t. Some do. Social media I suppose. People getting more radicalised acting like starving a population is totally acceptable in war.

Absolutely. There'll be updated flow charts and algorithms designed to counter each and every argument with deflection, manipulation and obfuscation. There's an entire industry set up around it apparently. It's not even a secret either.

This is what is terrifying to me. That everyone can't unite and say that starving 2 million people is wrong, let's fix this now. Everything we were taught and believed about a rules based order was wrong. The past 2 years has fundamentally changed how lots of us see the world. Never did I think I would see middle class british mums defending forced starvation but here we are.

There is no enforceable international law either. Their behaviour is dragging us all to hell. What will other despots do with this fact?

No I don't because it is lies and called covering your backs when you are spokesperson for an organsiation that has murdered 1000 people trying to get aid. Why believe him over the UN and national governments? Can't you see it is an exercise in damage limitation.

smallglassbottle · 25/07/2025 10:40

I'm no longer engaging in any discourse with them on here. It's just a waste of time and I don't get paid, so it's pointless. My advice would be, don't let them waste your time. Nobody falls for it anymore anyway.

Just read some of the transcript

“If you would stop interrupting me, we could get something from this interview,” Mencer replied. “You do not perceive Hamas to be a terrorist organisation –”

“You’ve no idea what I perceive. You’ve no idea, Mr Mencer,” the journalist said.

“Tell us all then, do you believe Hamas to be a terrorist organisation?” Mencer insisted.

Mencer replied: “Take yourself off from those ideas that those executives upstairs tell you to say, and tell me right now you believe Hamas to be a terrorist organisation.”

Sounding rather frustrated, Robinson said: “Mr Mencer, every interview you do this, it’s very tedious for listeners, it’s very tedious for me.”

Poor Robinson I feel his pain, same old script

PaxAeterna · 25/07/2025 11:09

Unlike, say, Hamas...? Not sure if you were around on here just after 7 Oct, but the boards were flooded with spam threads vilifying Israel and mocking what had just happened. It's a lot quieter since Sinwar and Haniyeh popped their clogs 😉

I consider it antisemitic to reject all information coming from Israel as automatically false, while being spoonfed information from Hamas. All wars involve propaganda. It's on a new level with this one.

It absolutely is when you have people denying the reality of what is happening to innocent civilians, especially children, in Gaza. I consider it disgusting to listen to people denying war crimes, starvation and genocidal activities in Gaza.

There is no denial of what's happening, or that it is horrible. There is confusion and disagreement about how it's happening on the ground, and unlike you I don't think the interview with Mencer was handled well, unless (apparently like you) the only way to treat any information from Israel is to dismiss it with contempt.

“If you would stop interrupting me, we could get something from this interview,” Mencer replied.

Maybe not from you but yes there is plenty of denial on these threads.
